Ok, so after reading the manga carefully I think I figured out the story. Mayu is a transfer student at the braided hair girls school. One day she offers an umbrella to Mayu, tying a "ribbon" (bond) on them. But braided hair girl is in love with another girl that goes to a different school, they keep their relationship a secret (since in japan homosexual relationship are look down upon) and Mayu sees them together under the rain and takes a picture, using it as black mail. In the video she holds two umbrellas, one that has a ribbon tied on it, which I think represents her unrequited feelings that bind the three of them together. Braided hair girl confronts Mayu, begging her to not use the picture, Mayu leans over and tells her that if she chooses her (because the braided hair girl is in love with both Mayu and the other girl) she wont use the pictures. Either the girl tells her no or that she cant decide, Mayu attacks her. Short hair girl sees and stops her, in the manga she tells her manipulating someone in to loving you "isn't love" and Mayu moves to attack her too but braided girl interferes and receives the full blow, seriously hurting her. In the end she is holding short hair girl while using the sign to keep quiet, here I think she is telling Mayu not to tell anyone what happen/her true feelings since she doesn't want to hurt anyone with what happen/her decision.

i think i finally get it!!!!!!!That isn't a boy,that's a girl because i look closely in the manga and all three of them had skirts.They kept a secret cause they were girlxgirl lovers and didn't want nobody to find out/kept it a platonic non-sexual relationship,by doing that they kinda broke the platonic because they were girl lovers instead of boyxgirl lovers.Ealier Mayu thought her an the braided-girl had something going on when the girl gave Mayu the umbrella,then suddenly mayu saw the girl friend and Mayu got jealous.After that Mayu over heard the two girls talking and ask the braided girl to come over there were Mayu was.Said Mayu {stop being secret lovers with the girl and come to me instead or i blackmail you, that u have girlxgirl relationship with a girl}but the braided girl probably said no and Mayu attacked her and broke the ribbon chain or whatever and the former lover came to save her/in manga the former girlfriend told Mayu that wasn't love and Mayu said Whatt!!!!!(in a yandere mood).At the end the 2 lovers run away in the basement so they can hide from Mayu......P.S mayu was a transferred student/total threw me off,but that's the way i can see the song total and the manga :p

This song has such beautifull harmonies, I just can't get over it

Mayu, a transfer student falls in love at first sight, and when she notices their relationship, takes a picture. The girl realises and tries to stop her, but it turns into a fight, and Mayu attacks the girl with the umbrella. The last "window" drawing where the ribbon is cut, is actually the boy hugging the injured girl. Chris draws a full picture at the end of the comic. The last, full drawing is probably afterwards, where the pair are hiding from everyone, including Mayu. (part 2/2)

u-uh, Chris made a short comic of Yuudachi no Ribbon, so go read it translated at miss-simplicity's tumblr. After reading the comic, the song sounds like it's from the black haired girl's point of view. It's just a guess, but perhaps the boy is really popular at school, which is why they have to keep it a secret or else she'll be bullied. The two are childhood friends, so they can be seen with each other using excuses like "we only have one umbrella". (part 1/2)

my interpretation and its does not have to be true it is an opinion manga is braided girl pov song is mayu pov manga: a girl waits for guy she sees mayu and offers her an umbrella out of kindness guy come along and mayu discovers it is the guy she fell in love with mayu and the guy stare at each other remebering the past song : (experience about mayu together with the guy) The sudden evening rain begins falling down, we take shelter at the bottom of the school It gets louder and only our breaths echoes I felt my transparent blouse and as painful as it could get, our eyes met These lips and your lips, the distance between the two became zero one day mayu overheard their conversation about them being secret lovers song : want to do the secret thing, I want to do it “It’s a secret” That echo stimulated my immature ears another 10 times she felt sad as she and the guy had only a one time kiss and nothing more so the agreement between the couple keeping their relationship quiet and "it is a secret" echoed in her head and it worsened her emotions next mayu tried to return the umbrella back to the girl but saw the secret couple being together mayu remembers the relationship has to be a secret , she takes a picture of it and plans to use it as blackmail mayu shows the picture to the girl next she begs mayu not to leak it otherwise she will lose her secret lover mayu threatens her with something (this i dunno) otherwise she will leak the pic it could be seen in the song that mayu whispers something to her it should be most probably telling the girl her experience with the guy and that the guy loves her first not in the song or manga its just a thought:the girl runs away to the guy and confronts him about it manga:the guy meet up with mayu with the girl hiding behind him (she fears mayu) and the guy told her that shes wrong mayu exclaims what ? then mayu drowns in jealousy that was angry that the guy never loved her song:mayu stabs the girl several times before the guy saves her the secret couple ran away and hid in a basement away from everyone else the guy had two ribbons (bonds) : mayu and the girl mayu went insane thus his ribbon with mayu was cut off so it meant he chose the braided girl and mayu hurts in the end (which brings to the cover page of the manga where mayu is crying under the rain holding the umbrella she stabbed them with - this shows that she is hurting ) and it leads to mayu singing this song to explain what she been through . what happened along the way and what happened in the end by the way i dont really know if the guy in the story is a girl or a guy so i assumed he/she/it is a guy ta-ta-ta-ta ! the end :)

I think this song is in Mayu's (the long hair girl) POV. So, Mayu is the girl's friend and It seems like she saw the boy and the girl doing the "secret thing" and and overhearing stuff (like the "I love you" part). After that, Mayu's carrying two umbrellas, which one of them is for the girl. but she saw the girl and the boy going home together so she snapped a picture through her cell and later show it to the girl.

-- The girl begs Mayu to deleter the pic, but Mayu refuse and ended up attacking the girl. The boy came and try to stop both of them. Somehow it seems like the relationship between the girl and either the boy or Mayu is torn off. You can see the end of the long ribbon in the end ( 3:07 ). But I'm still not sure about the last scene :/ This is just my opinion though. (Sorry for the bad English.)

wow I've listened to this song for a few months now and I never really notice the little drawings at the bottom right there. Well, Mayu IS a yandere influenced vocaloid so of course there would be some killing lol

folks just like to theorize and use their head! there's nothing wrong with that, and while i get the "Maybe The Sky Is Just Blue" argument, that doesn't mean it's much fun. folks like like to characterize vocaloids and make sense of lyrics, that's nothing bad or stupid! if anything, i think it's pretty creative and it's good that they like to use their head that way.

this is the first time im having an interest listening on mayu's songs cause of the trial (i dunno how to use that actually ._.) nice song. i like mayu being a yandere. even i dont like yanderes much.

I don't think the last scene is in chronological order to the events in the song, and may just be a picture of the boy and the girl he's cheating on his girlfriend with, and showing when she found out or something.

I think this is a song about some guy cheating on his girlfriend. The story is from the 'other' girl pov. You know, they like each other, but he's in a relationship. And so they wanted to keep it a secret, but the girlfriend saw them... and she attacked the girl. The ribbon or the bond between the guy and his girlfriend broke, and at the final scene they're hiding from the former girlfriend in a basement, 'cause she proved to be quite violent.

I'm a bit confused - despite the song talking about two people, you also see mayu with the other girl, talking to her, and whatever mayu said at 2:27 certainly shocked the other girl. she even appears to start attacking her after that. I'm just confused as to what happened to her and what her involvement in it is.
