Maytronics Dolphin S300i Robotic Pool Cleaner Unboxing, Use and Review

This is an extra long, un-edited video on the un-boxing, first use, cleaning and review of the Maytronics Dolphin S300i. Hopefully it helps with the decision if you were on the edge. All I could personally find on KZread was a few videos in other countries/languages, or a short, silent video of the robot running in a pool that was no help at all. Thanks again to Easton Pool & Spa for carrying this piece of tech right in the store. After a month of ownership I couldn't be happier with it.
Thank you very much for watching. Don't hesitate to write me a comment with any questions you can think of.
This was demonstrated in an 18 X 32 inground, with vinyl liner running chlorine. Filmed with a GoPro Hero 4, Black.

    Thanks, I got one of these from our pool guy but did not get any instructions from him (other than "this baby will keep the pool clean, just drop it in and switch on") - so now I know how to clean it! I can confirm it is a top quality unit. You reminded me about the blue tooth connection, so I am going to download the app right now and see how that goes. Thanks from Switzerland.

    I've sold( & use) about a 100 of these. I maintain pools for about 30 or so customers & more than half have this model. Great video, but I'd like to add that you do not have to take the filter grids out of the basket to clean them. When you pull the basket out simply use your water hose to spray from the inside out thru the filter grids till clean. No need to snap them all out. The ONLY problem I have with these units, is after a couple years(especially if people leave them in the pool all the time when not in use) is the long blue cord starts to twist up real bad, get "sticky" and will not straighten back out, having to order a new cord. So after each use take it out & store it on the dolly. Also after several uses stretch the cord out straight on the deck/yard) in the bright sun for the day(out of the pool!) & let it straighten out for the day. Hope this helps some & again, great video. By the way, you can get the S200 for a good bit cheaper if you don't want all the bells & whistles(app, dolly, prorammimg) as it is the same unit!

    Jay great feedback, thank you. Agreed on all accounts. The bluetooth is a silly option since the delay is brutal, I do the same with my cord- letting it out on the lawn to get it perfectly straight again. If this isn't done I'm sure eventually it will kink and ruin the cord. And very good point on the filter elements not needing to be popped out.

    Great review, good shots of the robot and explanation of how it works. The reason nobody shoots their cleaner videos with the pool really dirty is because they dont want to have the chemical balance problem you talk about at the end of this video when the pool gets so far out of whack it takes multiple days to get it back into swimmable shape. Im trying to find out how many microns the fine filter bag is.

    Fernando- Thank you for watching my friend. Those are details they fixed in the S series. The filters are super fine, like an automotive air filter. My pool water stays unbelievably clean while the S300i is doing its thing, never anything kicked up into the water. I usually just let the robot run 2 regular cleaning cycles so it hits every square inch. My cable also does not have the spinning swivel- it just floats at the top of the water- i've never seen it tangle or deform, i'm surprised you have that issue. Maybe they changed the composition of the cord and fixed the issues you had. Since I bought it, i haven't touched the manual cleaner in months- I'm so happy with it's performance. I don't have the time to manually vac it, and what a brutal task that was especially with my screwed up liner. The Dolphin is basically priceless to me. When i posted this video in August i had actually already had it for a couple months already- it just took me a little while to edit and upload it. -Nick

    Hi! Great video, thanks for uploading it. I would like to ask you a couple of questions, if you don't mind. I own a Dolphin Supreme M4 since around 2010, and i didn't get the best results. I usually have my pool just like yours in the video, transparent water with green stuff and some kind of dust in the bottom. I usually experience 3 issues: 1- The robot seems to pick up the dust, but it actually just passes through the machine, so i end up with no dust on the bottom of the pool, but with turbulent "White" water. 2- The robot doesn't seem to reach some corners of the pool. 3- After a while, as the cable has no spinning swieble, the cable begins to spin in odd ways, and begins to deform. Do you experience any of this issues? I'm concerned most of all in the first issue, since, the robot ends up being just leaf collecting device, and i end up cleaning the pool manually, hope you can help me to see if buying this new one might actually work! Thanks a lot again.

It's 110~250 free voltage which is no need a voltage trance device. Only I wonder that a digital switch on power supply for power on/off. It seems be week, and impossible to repair by myself if it's breakdown.

    Appreciate that onTVAustralia. The only thing I've had to replace, is the rubber flap on the back called the "quick drain flap". I've been so damn happy with this vacuum. And now you'll notice the prices have come down on these. Back in the day, I paid somewhere in the $1300-1450US range. Now, my buddy Tom bought the newer model with all the same features, for around $800 (without the cart). I predict in 5 years I'll just have to replace the little tank treads, and MAYBE the motor, you never know. It still has fantastic suction right now though. And I use it 1 to 3 times a week from opening to closing season (Apr to Sep).

    Thanks for the great review. Since this Dolphin keeps the water moving and you use it so often, do you still need a pool pump? My pool pump keeps breaking and I would love to not have to deal with the pool pump costs or repair and electricity. Also, I can't lift much weight because of a former injury. How much does the robot weigh and is it heavy when lifting it out of the water? What if there's sand or dirt on the pool floor? Does it remove the dirt? Thanks again.

  • @MidknightMechanics

    @MidknightMechanics

    7 жыл бұрын

    Judy Nichols Thank you very much for the feedback. The Dolphin does a great job helping circulate water but unfortunately you absolutely still need your standard pool pump and filter. since the pool pump circulates from the main drain on the floor and through the skimmer, the robots will never do as good a job with circulation as the pump does to mix your chemicals and filter your water. Just make sure to around to pool stores offering insentives for pool pump because Energy Star offers DEEP discounts on pumps. Many pool stores have the opportunity to give 1 or a couple customers a pump that is subsidized by the electric companys/Energy Star. And to answer your weight question, unfortunately it gets around 35-40 pounds when pulling it out of the water because of the weight from the water trapped inside, before it drains out. One solution would be to use the remote control feature and drive it up your stairs so that it will have much less water in it, and it'll be closer to pull out to the pool deck. And yes it does pull up the dirt and sand without issue. Hope this helps :)

  • @MidknightMechanics

    Judy Nichols Just one more thing. If your pump keeps breaking, try and look up a place that repairs automotive alternators and starters. Since the pump is a giant electric motor- those guys could help you fix it for cheap.

    Hey Robin. Still very happy. Opened up the pool 2 weeks ago, just let the Dolphin clean it up. It also helps circulate the water around and kick up the crap stuck to the liner that the robot might not get, so that the skimmer can take it in, and run through my sand filter. The opening is 1.5 inches, nothing has ever clogged the opening (yet).

    Have you used the Bluetooth function? Do you need it? I have an 18'x33' Above Ground Oval Pool, I have tried 3 different cleaners and all of them have been "dumb" cleaners that just roam around randomly and they ALL miss atleast 1/3 of the poo, even after running 3-5 cycles. I was looking at this model because it has the Bluetooth function so I could "Drive" it to places it misses, But the question becomes, Does it actually miss anything? If not, then there may be no need to get the Bluetooth function at all, but rather just a "Smart" robot that actually know's where it's going and where it's been... Thanks!!

  • @MidknightMechanics

    @MidknightMechanics

    Great question Chad. To be honest, I've only used the Bluetooth feature about 5 times since I bought it in 2015. I went into this purchase saying "i NEED the remote control ability". But the truth is, the lag time from the phone or smart device over bluetooth to the robot is long, so it's not the easiest thing to control. Especially when the robot has to activate the other jet to be able to turn left and right which is how it works, instead of say- making one tread go one way, and the other tread go the other way to spin on it's access. I Bluetooth once this year because there was a tiny pile of leaf/bug stuff on my stairs and i used it to jump onto the stair and suck it up. Which is the incredibly lazy way to do it when it would take 2 seconds with a net. I've never had to run the Dolphin more than 2 times to hit every inch of the liner in the full cycle mode. I guess by now it's done its math calculations to map out the dimensions of my in-ground. If not having the remote control feature saves hundreds- i'd skip it. But, with bluetooth the other great thing about it is, you can tell it to do a ultra clean, which increases suction and slows the movement down- making it clean for 1, 2 or 2.5 hours. Then, if it missed something at the waterline- you can have it only do the walls and waterline. Or floor only, or a quick clean, etc. On the power adapter is several options for full cycle, half cycle, etc, but no where near as many fine tuning options as in the Dolphin app over Bluetooth. -Nick

    The most annoying part of cleaning the pool is if it has fine algae layer all over on the bottom. I bought this bot and it fails miserably, since the idiots did not include a fine speed/water jet strength control (the app is just a stupid gimmick without that). It just stirs up all the algae until the perfectly clean see through pool becomes a big green mess. There should be a super slow and weak mode for fine dirt on the floor.
