Kachasila is a hill in the Morigaon district of Assam. The hill is situated quite close to the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a well known tourist spot of the district. On top of the Kachasila Hill, there is a temple which belongs to 9th Century A.D and therefore has historical value, apart from religious significance. The temple has statues of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati, and in the temple complex there are a number of sculptures of the elephant god Lord Ganesha, who, according to the Hindu mythology is the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati. The statues have immense artistic value and many tourists come to the place to have a look at them. There are a few hotels, where the tourists can put up in this area.
The scenic beauty from the top of the Kachasila hill is mesmerizing. Added to that is the ancient temple complex that houses a number of magnificent statues of the Hindu idols, Lord Shiva, Parvati, and Lord Ganesha. Other than general tourists, a number of researchers, and archaeologists also come to this area. There is the Pobitora Sanctuary nearby, along with the biggest dry fish market of Asia, which are also well known attractions for tourists.
The Kachasila Hill is not too far away from the National Highway, and thus could be reached by taxis. Private buses and state buses come to the town of Morigaon. The Borjhor airport in Guwahati is the closest airport to this place. Jagi Road railway station is quite close to this place
The best months to visit the Kachasila Hill are November, December and February. January can be really cold, and it is thus better to avoid the month. Also, peak summer months and monsoon are not the best times to visit the Kachasila Hill, as the weather tends to be quite uncomfortable for travelling.
