For those who don't speak Russian. Go to the link above or this link here and install the Mental Ray plugin: knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/downloads/caas/downloads/content/mental-ray-plugin-for-maya-2016.html After you install that, go to this link: knowledge.autodesk.com/support/maya/downloads/caas/downloads/content/maya-2016-service-pack-5.html Install Maya service pack 5 AND then install the mentalray_Plugin_for_Maya_2016_SP5_EN_JP_ZH. If you don't install this second mental ray plugin then you will continue to get black screens.

Thanks for your effort, but your solution doesn't seem to work anymore, or not for maya extension 1 sp6. The first link is for the mental ray plugin, and it appears there isn't a MR plugin specifically for maya SP6. This is so fucking frustrating, i have dedicated so much to learn this piece of crap software but there's always seem to be some new fucking problem were there was none. If I knew this from the beggining I would have stayed the fuck away from it.

+89 chi Yes, I was installing the wrong version of Mental Ray. You need to install the exact same version for your maya version, and as I remember, I got confused in the Autodesk page.

For those of you mocking his language, how about you actually watch what he does. Who cares what he is saying, just WATCH what he clicks and use some common sense.

I had the same problem. nothing fixed for me. I just download the mentalray from NVIDIA website and it works for me.

Помогло, просто переустановил SP1 (:
