This is actually rather simple. Britain was never really in a position to dictate anything to the EU. It's like when you end your Netflix subscription and then try to negotiate whether you can still access certain content for less of a fee. It makes no sense. The unpopular reality is, no matter who you send to Brussels, there won't be a different or a better deal. The issue is that Britain is too proud to accept they are not in a good position to negotiate and that they'll have to accept what has been offered. They still believe that they can enter this situation with a swollen chest while the EU is just shaking their head. Unless the UK is accepting that they are not as important and great as they see themselves, they will literally dig their own grave. Of course the EU in itself is also not an economic paradise so it's hard to predict where the EU and the UK will be in 10-15 years time. But for now, it's the UK's false proud and lack of realistic reflection on their own position that will potentially put them in a terrible position in the near future.

@@AK-yx3qf It's because we went from being an imperialist empire that ruled the world to being a sad little island bossed about by other superpowers, all within the space of about 100 years. Brexit is a symbolic act of rebellion by a country going through an identity crisis - nothing more. When you ask Brexiters why they voted, they'll either say they wanted to reduce immigration or retain sovereignity over its laws - rarely was it about anything else. And both those things are examples of the UK stamping its foot, crossing its arms and crying "go away, this is MY country." It's sad and pathetic, but if/when a hard Brexit happens, it will be a rude awakening for those who thought we could go back to having the global influence we once had.

But the EU will not let them, neither Scotland nor NI can come close to fulfilling the EU requirements. If either of them do leave the UK, this will also mean no more funding from London. Scotland does not have a port capable of an effective container terminal, which means all imports will go through UK ports, which will incur import duties. The best deal for NI would be to reunite with Eire.

Purged tens of thousands of it's own officers. This number does not count for the NKVD units murdering untold numbers of it's own troops for retreating. If the Russians were not resupplied by the U.S. and other allied countries they would have never succeeded. The Russians requested an additional front be opened in France ( mind you in addition to the the Italian front ) because they knew that they could not take the Germans on their own. Try picking up a book instead of reading your beloved russian/communist propaganda and swallowing it wholesale.

22:00 Tory Anna Soubry doesn't believe that British voters got it right the first time and is convinced that they need to try again a second time or third or...until they get it right, i.e., to vote her way - to remain. Unbelievable! And she states, "Oh good God no! Vote against a PM whose sole mandate was to deliver a true Brexit and who failed miserably? Oh no! I'll vote confidence in her tomorrow!" What? She says "Hey look, we couldn't convince house MPs to REMAIN so we must go back to the British people and insist that they vote for REMAIN." Soubry insists on a "People's Vote," seemingly forgetting that the "People's Vote" happened in 2016. What? MP Lucy brings up the Norway agreement which is not Brexit. Hilary Benn, Labour MP says, "We will not allow the UK to leave without an agreement." However, that was not what voters voted for. They voted to LEAVE. There was no "with an agreement" added to their decision. That corporate-dedicated Blairite is just making things up!

The people voted to leave the EU. Any deal allowing the UK to stay within any of the EU's institutions, the single market, etc is completely irrelevant to the mandate given. You might even argue it undermines the mandate entirely. If you can negotiate tariff free trade, great, but it isn't a requirement and if parliament cannot agree to a deal then there is only one option that fulfils the legal obligation they have. Now Channel 4 might be extremely biased towards remaining, and you might disagree with leaving entirely, but that is where Parliament stands. Corbyn thinks this is a power play opportunity and it'll backfire spectacularly, for even if he wins, he is in no better position on BREXIT than May. He'll face the exact same issues.

@@thelonesculler This is where media misinformation comes into play. Every referendum is legally binding, it is a mandate given by the people to parliament. Hundreds of lawyers signed an open letter to David Cameron stating that it was advisory on the basis of that "promises were made that couldn't be fulfilled" and that misinformation influenced the result. That alone is debatable, leaving the EU's institutions is self-explained by leaving the EU. Parliamentary procedure doesn't recognise this. You'd have to hold a vote in parliament to veto it, and it's a vote that wouldn't pass, because both sides of the aisle accept the referendum result. Including the opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn. The media is peddling the idea that a second referendum is more likely, to stir up hope for and pander to the anti-Brexit movement... Yet it's brazen ignorance of parliamentary law and procedure. It'd require a strong majority in parliament, and it'd still involve deferring back to the people in another referendum (which would be shambolic for British democracy, it's akin to saying "We can't do this, please vote the right way this time.")

@@tams805 A referendum by definition, by being a referendum, is legally binding. A referendum doesn't have to say "Hey look if you vote for this we have to do it" for Parliament to act on it, and the special general election triggered by May further solidified the result with regards to parliamentary procedure (it's why she triggered one, not to gain a further majority contrary to popular belief, it was to validate the result. Corbyn made the mistake of treating it like a general election, rather than being an opponent to Brexit, which Labour MPs criticised him on. If he wins the challenge today, which he won't unless the DUP rebel, he will treat it as a special general election if the conservatives devolve into civil war over leadership. Even I don't know how that will work legally, given that the referendum result was decided). I'd advise you also read the other comments here.

Yes, he is a quiet force to be reckoned with. I am Canadian - and I think that Britain's decision to leave the EU is both mad and sad - but I admire Jacob Rees considerably. I want to see a united Europe, and do not want to see it struggling without Britain's very considerable strength. Europe is being overwhelmed by other powerful forces in the world, and is far more capable of facing them partnered with Britain than otherwise (a simple instance of "united we stand, divided we fall"). Moreover, I see it as utterly inane to have held a referendum whereby a simple majority can overturn anything as massive as this decision is! At least a 60% agreement should be required. The reason is that it is far too easy for an individual to cast a vote casually, without thought - and this is no way to reach such a serious decision. Moreover, I see Britain as a pretty successful union of former countries, and I am afraid that it may fall apart if Brexit comes to pass. Lastly, why is there such fear of a second referendum? After all, the result of that referendum would be an expression of the current will of the people!

And Jeremy Corbyn thinks that we would have any confidence in him. The thing is there are a multitude of countries outside the EU that the UK can trade with. Most British businesses work in the service industry and can utilise the technological and digital infrastructure in order to grow and expand. There is no negotiation there is no bargaining power this the deal that Theresa May could get based on 27 countries that remain in the EU. I mean what is it with both politicians and the media. If this says anything it just amplifies that the system is broken and that we need to carry out despite of this lunacy.

As I figured the deal would be voted down. So this means a no deal or each faction nation declaring independence from the UK is 75% likely, because clearly the EU stated that is the only deal that UK would get without being a member of the EU. If a no deal takes place possibly what's next is EU citizens in the UK could be deported back to EU countries, and UK citizens in the EU could be deported back to the UK because there's no treaty and whatever goods that were transported under that treaty are now null & void. It is a shame that humans in the east/west continue to fight each other over the semantics, literally we human's have been fighting for over 10,000 years and all we've done its kick-the-can-down-the-road. We must solve the world's problems in order to sustain peace and existence otherwise we will cause our own destruction. It is time for new system, capitalism nor socialism will solve the problem. No longer shall one human determine another human's worth that should be in the hands of the person of whose life it is, for it is your life it should be in your hands. P.S. to say this is a majority is a bit skewed because the electorate amount is 46,501,241 and the total amount of people who voted in the referendum is 33,551,983 which leaves 12,949,258 who have a right to get a say for it involves their life everyone must vote to see the true majority in the UK fore this is a serious matter

Get serious for once. There is going to be a hard border in Ireland if you leave.Nothing to be done about that if you leave. The backstop is one more lie on this road. These are both lies, all polling data suggests the UK is now majority remain, and the EU has ruled that by law we can stay if we cancel it. The leave campaign lied about NHS funding and made it a talking point then immediately turned around after the vote and said they will never do that. That means people voted on a false mandate. The leave campaign violated campaign finance laws to secure their vote. Either of these things should trigger a second referendum in my view.

How long does it take for 634 politicians to alter the the direction of a tanker. They are not sure they are still talking about it. Probably a decade, and they will use up most of the fuel in the tanker while they are at it. The point is they have not even touched the ships wheel yet; never mind deciding where they they are going, and now they are back to deciding who is captain. Maybe the 29th March will actually get businesses to take action and cause a solution, as they are the ones who trade and actually do something. We have been trading since the bronze age, so who needs restrictive trade deals (read taxes, tariffs)? No deal is the only way to get a proper deal, after exit. Britain's voted for Brexit, so everyone had a vote for or against. They then had a snap election where the UK voters voted again for both liberal and conservative MP's whom 80% that won stated they supported Article 50 Brexit. So the voters so far have voted twice for leave. 500 MP's then voted for the European Union Withdrawal Act 2018, which specifically says that if May did not reach a deal the UK would exit the EU March 29th, 2019 with no deal this is the law. So just exactly how many more votes do you want? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_(Withdrawal)_Act_2018#The_Act
