For the love of God, do not add a Sema build this year just complete all the projects you guys are working on and if they’re done in time, take those to Sema

I really don't mind when builds get pushed around. It's cooler to see people take their time to build something they'll actually want to use, rather than rushing things to fit in a KZreadr timeline. I'm here for whatever neat projects you guys have kicking around

Same here, it's not like the viewers get to use the builds. Just keep up producing anything.
Hell yea! Take the time to do it right! This build is so awesome, it does diserve all that waterproofing!
guessing the badges ain't clicking because of the additional thickness of the bedliner.
Chris, you will need a dedicated 20 amp breaker on a 12 gauge wire to run an RV ac. It can't be shared with a TV.
when visualising how long something, usually a creative thing, might take or how much it will cost, I usually say, think of a number a double it. But my friend says, Eye times Pi. Eye being what you see, and Pi being 3.14. Which is usually closer to the mark.
What a surprise seeing two videos today. Posted the same time as well.

Someone complained on IG that there wasn't enough car content lmao
in relation to the leak issues... : membrane rubber roof application.. hear me out: 1) total onepiece coverage 2) overhang to cover the tops of the hatch hinge and add a lip of the same material on the door side of the edge rails... leaks stop and it comes in white, and it sticks harder the hotter it gets... as far as 'scheduling'... dude, this is YOUR channel.. we all just get to watch what you post... at the end of the day, we get to enjoy what you let us.. and i'm ok with that... glad you are feeling better... g
Make sure you double-check the gross vehicle weight rating for each axle cuz you don't want to have 10,000 lb on your rear axle and only 2000 lb on your front axle. When your rear axle might only be rated for 7,000 lb and your front axle might only be you rated for 5000
Love you guys! Im here for whatever schedule you guys need to take.
Love your builds, but sometimes I feel like a few more weeks of planning and research on new projects would be time well spent, and would save you a ton of time fixing up mistakes later.
Take your time on it. I honestly like seeing work on multiple projects at once. It help with potential fatigue.
Chris, I’ve been watching your stuff for 7 years now. The reason why you’re the best car channel out there is that that you take your time to finish builds right, and you always do finish them. It has always been evident that you’re out there building stuff because you love it, and not to just generate content. So continue to do whatever you think makes the most sense. I’m just happy to be here for the ride! (Lots of other reasons I love your stuff too. You’re honest, you show the good and the bad, the Sema build mania is a blast to watch every year, creativity, positivity, etc. etc. Just keep it up man)

I noticed you used the lap sealant as regular caulking. It’s not regular caulking. You’re supposed to apply it over what you’re sealing, across the edge and a bit past your surface. Imagine like a strip of tape. A bit over and a bit past it. Covering completely any screws or rivets. Also it will most likely stay a bit soft, that’s normal. I’ve been living in an rv for almost 5 years and that’s just how it is. Good job doing the white roof covering and the exhaust fan on the roof tho. It’ll help out a lot with heat reflection and heat and humidity removal from inside the rig. Like many other said, I’d highly recommend adding a spring leaf and probably the helper airbags and boxing the frame for strength. One other thing I’d suggest looking into which I’ve seen help a lot on class b or c campers(van and truck kind) is upgraded sway bars, It’ll make it more stable going down the road. Not sure if rams have a sway bar, but if they do…might wanna check it out.
@steveABCDEFG

Yeah needs more lap sealant for sure. It should be fully coated
I would ALWAYS make my own. Decals if I had a 3D printer. Make your own logos (B is for Build) Logo in that front would look AWESOME and You could probaly even sell them if you make them fit for some vehicles.
Might be something you can take to a show. Good idea to make it perfect.
Add a leaf for the weight. Also, youre not gonna have that boat sorted and fun to use by the end of the season. A boat build is for sure a january to april deal. Dont forget sema project needs to start in july or august to be realistic without the insane stress again.
@nathanplatt5517

It doesn't matter how if you add extra leaf springs or airbag suspension to help take the extra pounds. The frame is still only rated for 12000 lb the axles are still only rated for 12,000. The wheel bearings in the knuckles in the hubs are all only rated to hold 12000 lbs. Adding a leaf spring or adding airbags only help the vehicle not squat anymore it does not add any more gross vehicle weight rating.
To me, it keeps things interesting. Going between builds always adds a sort of freshness to it. Sure we want it to be finished but when that happens it’s gone. I enjoy the slow burn.
3M5200 in black for all your waterproofing needs .. $hit is amazing , Ive been using it for 10 years to reseal all our RV/Campers n boats.. and all through hull upgrades for boats and jetski stuff . ( I own a shop in Savannah Ga)
pretty easy to upgrade max weight on the chassis- reinforce the frame under the cab to the rear suspension mounts (overkill, why not?), stronger springs/helpers with better shocks and/or Air Bags I can put an extra thousand lbs in the bed of my truck from upgraded leaf springs, but stiffer ride though.. especially going over bridge seams... considering it's a Ram, should at least beef up the frame for good measure
I really hope you bring this back to your main Channel , because I absolutely refuse to watch anyone's second Channel . If it's worth watching it should be on the main Channel , if it's garbage it shouldn't be on any channel .
You need to do the electronic frosted window and the a projector for the TV.
I think you do really good on deadlines with the exception of last second sema builds
if you put a trailer behind it you will be over the gvwr. tongue weight of a trailer counts toward the gvwr. if you get pulled by DOT I doubt you would be able to argue your way out of commercial use and this could come with some big fines.
You mentioned towing with the camper... check the payload rating of the truck with trailer tongue weight added.
So far I love this truck
The lap sealant needs to be applied in the same manner as cake frosting. It will prevent the water from pooling.
You could always move south for longer summer months! Tennessee will welcome you with open arms!
More Behind The Build episodes please!
I don't think that's going to be the best tow vehicle by the time it's all set up. You're probably going to be over your GCVWR not to mention the tongue weight of whatever you're towing will potentially put you over your GVWR if you're cutting it that close. Only mentioning this because you briefly said you'd want it to be a reliable tow vehicle. I'm super excited to have you finish this build though. Take your time and do it right!
Raptor liner the ceiling fan? You guys are awesome shout out from STL come back anytime!
Park it somewhere fenced. My buddy just got two wheel jacked of a '93 beater imprezza.
You should add a compressor and air bags to the suspension on the back for an air assist to help with the weight.
If Chris says the campers weight is going to be close Its gunna be over 😂
Regarding the waterproofing, I personally would take it on some rough-road/off-road driving and get it to shake the worst you can imagine actually using it later. All those panels are going to want to rack and tear at the seams, so you might as well get that all out of the way before you panel over the seams inside.
I don't know a lot about this weight matter, but I think it can be worked around, no? Like, there's frame reinforcement kits you can buy to strengthen the chassis, you can add more leafs on the rear suspension, bigger brakes it's a must have, and some engine upgrades like internal pieces, cooling systems, maybe a slightly bigger turbo, all in order to make more power and being able to handle all the weight + towing stuff.
I am not epileptic, but maybe a warning on that lens shutter on the roof scene might be nice. Also, are you planning on spray can painting the door jams black as well? Every time I see the red it distracts me XD
From an HVAC perspective, it is not wise to use the fan and the AC at the same time once it is cooler inside than outside. Running just the AC at that point recirculates and cools the already cooled air. If you run the fan, it is bringing outside air in from leakage. Another perspective is all campers and RVs have roof-mounted AC units for the same reason all buildings have their AC ducts in the ceiling - it is more efficient to pump cool air in from the top and let it sink than it is to cool the air at floor level and wait for it to equalize in the room.
Gonna need to add airbags to load level/stabilize that beast.
You need way more sealant on the roof vent
*Better to do it right the first time than having to waist time to redo it* *B is for Build the world!*
I would love to go and work with you guys and help out with these projects
Lap sealant is just how it sounds, it’s meant to be lapped over the seams like I large puddle
You need to take care of the red door inside paint. Look ugly when the doors are open. You need to mask it off and paint it black. This would look much better
You mentioned painting the roof white. To save weight you could cut out a large portion of the roof and make it fiberglass. I assume you could save 2-300 pounds, depending on what supports the FG. Should be strong enough with the walls all being steel.
Use SikaFlex 221 for waterproofing.
So your killdozer inspired camper is heavy?
It's a known that Dodge has some frame issues, That being said, boxing the frame should be a huge help. I know that is a huge undertaking though. As far as touching on the GVWR, AIR BAGS! It will help a lot. You've pretty much made it a unibody which will help to stiffen the frame and Yeah many of us RVers do really push the limits of our chassis. When it's windy outside, I often run "Heavy" (meaning I don't dump my waste tanks and I have the water tank full) It really helps keep us planted on the road and not as prone to the wind pushing us around. SO yeah, we max out our chassis on occasions. With you towing a car trailer behind you to many meet and greets.... yeah tighten her up! Box the frame and add airbags! I run mine at 90 PSI just to not sway as much!
How much weight could have been saved if the metal sheets (flat parts) was fiberglass?
@jwalster9412
Ай бұрын
First off, that would be expensive, and second it would take probably 4 months to do those panels, and they aren't good with fiberglass so it would probably not go so well and third, it would probably not look as good.

its unfortunate but these things happen, that said im interested to see a custom boat build.
Wouldn't it be possible to upgrade the suspension to increase the max load limit?
@kerryclark1926
Ай бұрын
It's the frame that holds the weight. Upgrading the suspension would be a great addition, but you won't get additional GVW authorization from Dodge or the state.
Who made the roof fan?
Having watched the boat video first, how are you going to get it to the water?. Not being negative, just really curious
Im not the biggest fan of this build, so no sweat about kickin it to the side. I would rather see the jumpacon finished. Whatever happened with that thing?
Ive seen the sema mustang, its no where close to perfect
So you are going to put this project on the back burner again?
If you’ve only got 600lbs left before you hit max gvm there’s not a snowballs chance in hell you’re gonna complete it and keep it under weight. So many warned about this right from the word go, you’re not reinventing the wheel here, it’s been done a gajillion times before. This simply should not have happened.
@johndoherty2864

I think ball weight of what is being towed also adds to the GVM so can’t see how this could be legal unless it is given a new GVM from an engineer.

I callled it early, it’s going to be a heavy hot box. There’s a reason they make rv’s out of lightweight insulated panels 🤦🏻♂️
Hopefully the Truck will be finished for Scima.

That banging sound is me pounding my head on my desk. Buy them books, buy them books, all they do is eat the pages. What are you going to sleep on, hold your fresh water, keep your food refrigerated, keep warm on cold nights, etc.? You got about another 2,000 pounds to add on and leaf springs are going to crack. You might be able to salvage this project, but you will need to remove the steel siding and replace it with aluminum. Otherwise, well, please don’t film the wreck.
Lol wow B its like when people were informing you in the comments NOT make the camper out of steal they might have known something. Im sure with whatever your going to tow is going to push you over the tunnage .
upgraded brakes and suspension to accommodate the heavier weight, your GVWR will be irrelevant
A pontoon boat is in the future?
The weight: and now they know why RVs are made of aluminum, plywood, fiberglass, etc. Steel is just so heavy.
*When are you going to build a flying car?*
Sadly I think you are going to find you are going to blow by the GVWR. On paper and in real life are so much different. Wish you the best of luck but I think you're going to end up closer to 14K lbs. once you are fully built up.
Build the algorithm, this truck is too heavy though....
Light weight wood and uprated the suspension and axles fn simple but next time just buy a converted bus
That big flat top definitely needs more solar panels :P

yeah and upgrade the brakes and cooling system the truck isn't really designed to sit at maximum load 100% of the time
How are you going to be able to tow anything? You’re already maxing out your payload there’s no way you can put a trailer on that and be within payload.
Take your loss and drive it to the junkyard. It's too heavy, too less ground clearance for an overlander, the color black is too hot inside, the solar panels will overheat stuck like this on the vehicle and as you mentioned earlier yourself the electrics are not okay and this will not be waterproof.
'That' SEMA Mustang is not perfect by any standard. It is well done, but not perfect.
Campers, RVs and caravans are often over recommended weight ratings. People don’t seem to understand or care. It’s not OK to run overweight, not even for a bit. Time to reduce the load guys.
If they really wanted it to not get hot they could have painted it not black.
Cut your losses and lay it to rest on Hoovies farm.
You’ll never hit the weight rating. That needs to include all occupants and gear. You need to shed weight with aluminum and not steel. Don’t keep digging a deeper hole.
How are you going to your anything if you are already at max payload ... Tongue weight is part of your gross weight ...
