Devon Rodriguez is a South Bronx born and raised Contemporary Artist turned Social Media Sensation. At the age of just 24, Devon's paintings have been featured in the New York Times and Smithsonian. Online, his followers have reached into the millions on platforms Instagram and TikTok where he was recently ranked in the Top 10 Creator List for 2020. Our conversation covers a range of topics starting with the challenges of Devon's childhood including years spent trying to find his father and successfully doing so via MySpace, living a double life between his block in the South Bronx and his self-portrait billboard in Times' Square, and finding his viral niche with subway sketches and the use of TikTok which have catapulted him into pop culture collaborating with celebrities across multiple mediums. Safe to say that the future looks bright for Devon and all signs point to him continuing to be the living embodiment of the term "Phenom".

The "numb" is called disassociation. He experienced so much so young that he learned to disassociate. However, he must've had people who cared (i.e., Abuela) because he some how never internalized the negative experiences in a way that created self-destructive behaviors; instead, he always looked for a way out. Amazing story of the human experience.

This obsession with being tough and not being “soft,” and all this of Carlos living vicariously through Devon, makes me sad. All the violence at home. So much mental health and trauma in all this story. Crazy that you are sitting there telling this story. That prayer you did long ago in the elevator didn’t go unheard. Stay strong. Your “calling” (as you say it) is to not repeat those mistakes of your parents, but to keep doing good- good for your family and good for yourself and good for others. 💪🏽

Wow. When he tells the story about his father who abandoned him Max really says "but imagine the position your father was in getting that phone call" are you kidding me?????? A grown made made 18 kids and left them to fend. Devon went through so much... and that's what you have to say?????? That is not okay.

It's totally worth it to watch this vid all the way through...this young guy-Devon- is a marvelous *real* personality, nothing fake about him... he's a definite positive inspiration & role model for struggling young folks. He makes the word "influencer" actually meaningful in this instance. I wish him every good thing as he makes his way thru life.. Best to you Devon💥🔥🖐🏾🔥💥🙏🏾

he shows that he chose to be strong and to get out of hell and become something instead of sitting on his sorry ass and complain for the rest of his life and blame everyone for his misery as a child.......

A “soft” person could never have found the courage to find their dad and pursue a relationship with him as you had done. I’m sorry to hear he told you that and that you continually had to do things in his presence to prove him wrong. You have endured more than most could bear and come through to the other side to become a gift to all. If that’s not the definition of a tough thriver and survivor, I don’t know what is. Dearest Devon, let your bright light continue to shine and bless us all.
