Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing for the Apple II: Playthrough Part 1

Ойындар

This is just about an hour of playing through (typing through?) this typing game to see what it's all about and maybe improve my typing speed while I'm at it.
So far, it's kind of impressive how well it still holds up. I don't much like the weird, inconsistent number of spaces between sentences and abbreviations. But other than that and the metronome ticking, I've got no real complaints.
The learning curve on the disk swapping is high though. Ended up overwriting the program disk accidentally on my first attempt (unrecorded). It probably wouldn't have been an issue on the original hardware, since the actual disk would have the write-protect area covered.
I've numbered this 01 in case I want to record more and put 'em in a playlist or some such. I guess I could've started at Beginner level in order to show you what the whole experience was like, but it really sounds painful, personally (figuratively).
My keyboard layout isn't QWERTY or Dvorak (it's Engram 2.0 with slight modifications, in case you're interested), so learning in the order of physical placement wouldn't really work on my end. Plus it's like, I've done my time on this stuff already. I took a typing class years ago, and these tedious key-combo exercises won't help me remember where the keys are at this point. They'd just be tedious. 😤
