Maurice Murphy Talks about Star Wars

Maurice Murphy (1935-2010) talks about his first day on the job in the London Symphony Orchestra, the session for the original Star Wars film. John Williams also makes remarks on Maurice’s sound and the impact of the British brass in general.

    The brass band world produced many of the finest musicians. Maurice was probably the best.

    I was absolutely OBSESSED with the LSO when I was young because they did the Star Wars music. Anything Star Wars. All the greats are passing, its so sad.

    Maurice was a fabulous player and I remember him when he was with the BBC Northern - incredible playing for Kurt Masur in Shostakovitch 1. A no nonsense player who must've been sorely tested by the Celibidache rehearsals..............

    He was a swashbuckler of a musician. Incomparable trumpet player.
