That was in St Ouen Abbaye in Rouen for his birthday. I can remember the longest concert in my life!! A pleasant man, and a friendly fellow musician. We all loved your swimming pool! RIP. Maurice.

Maurice le maestro incontesté. Combien de fois ai-je écouté le concerto de Hummel avec ce ton tellement riche et unique et jamais je ne m’en lasse. M. André vous nous avez fait connaître le grand art de la trompette et nous vous en seront éternellement reconnaissant.

Maurice Andre was such a magnificent trumpet player and brought the piccolo trumpet to the forefront. Maestro Andre has had such a major influence on generations of trumpet players. You can always learn from listening to this guy!

Simply beautiful, and perfect air support control. I had the privilege to meet the man in Paris when studying trumpet at the conservatoire, as he was my teacher's friend. We still have a lot to learn from listening to him.

.Ce qui fait la différence avec les autres trompettistes c'est le son extraordinaire et une respiration exceptionnelle et un vibrato toujours controlé et le sentiment musical unique venant du coeur c'est à dire de l'esprit sinon pas de musique

Humble trompettiste , c'est , simplement magistral . Que de travail dans l'ombre pour arriver à une telle virtuosité . La descendance de ce génie n'est pas assumée . Il manque à nos jeunes la virtuosité du maître ! Mr Berton a su transmettre son esprit .

What a magnificent sound Maestro M. André exhales out of the TRUMPET. A pure, shine, melodic, vibrant, graceful and absolute mastery performance. It is so profound in its simplicity it is so delightful! An outstanding orchestra as well.

The applause was definitely enthusiastic, but these people probably had know clue that this was an all time most beautiful Hummel performance. Beyond a timeless wine, the Maestro is truly an immortal to us trumpet players. Rip Maurice

Maurice André était cévenol, (oui, c'est le Sud du Massif Central) du bassin d'Alès, il avait commencé sa carrière comme galibot au fond de la fosse. Comme c'est le cas dans les cités minières, la musique fait partie intégrante des travailleurs. Maurice André, regrettait vivement que bon nombre de ses camarades de la mine n'aient pu eux aussi "emerger" car, se plaisait-il à le répéter, "ils avaient au moins autant de talent que moi. Au début des années soixante, il participait très volontiers avec autant de simplicité que de gentillesse aux grands concerts de la chorale dans laquelle chantait Maman, à Alès.

Cet andante est très difficile à jouer car il requiert une grande endurance physique, des poumons solides et des babines d'acier. Or avec Maurice André ça parait tellement facile....et que dire du rondo....c'est ça un virtuose.

No one ever played it smoother......there are guys who played the double tongue stuff with perhaps a bit more precision, but no one comes close to the overall feeling of ease in this performance.......M. Andre sounds like he could do this in his sleep.....

I feel like whenever I listen to Maurice and he makes a mistake, I seem to almost not notice it cause I'm so into how good every other note sounds.

thank you for your reply. I looked for a version that you describe and indeed, technically, it is a faultless!I love Maurice but this time he made too many small mistakes that i've heard ! Bravo Hardenberger this time...

Oh please Maurice, don't overegg the pudding, too brassy, even for a trumpet. And the ornamentation overdone ! Blessed the day I traded my trumpet for a didgeridoo.
