I saw him at Costco and Walmart all the time. If I knew he was a RR man I would have stopped to talk. I was the last engineer to run Anaka and Myrtle on the LK&PRR. He passed a few weeks before I left the island.

I remember the Kahalui Railroad in operation in July 1964. My family and I were staying at the Maui Palms Hotel and at the Hukilau Hotel which overlooked the port. The tracks crossed in front of the hotel entrance. It was my first encounter with a narrow gauge Railroad and was so disappointed to see the tracks were removed when I visited again in August of 1967. I was glad to hear about and ride the Lahaina Kaanapali and Pacific in 1991 and 1997. I hear it too has closed down due to financial problems. Would love to see movies of its operations. Thank you for posting this narrative of the railway.

I remember seeing him on Maui when I was growing up. He would sit on the side of the road near Pukalani, selling things to make his living on occasion... sometimes just waving at folks... Always in a colorful Aloha shirt. He was a good man.

My grandfather, William Stewart Mountcastle and father, William Herbert Mountcastle were both engineers with Kahului Railroad....Ivanelle Mountcastle Choy.

When I was in High school I didn't know we had railroads here before On Maui Hawaii but on my sophomore Year I was at the Library doing my test in the back were they keep all the old books During my test I saw Railroads of Hawaii and Stared at It I couldn't take my eyes off of it. At the End of the test the librarian came in and she was looking for something and I asked here "Hey Miss Is It ok if can borrow this book please" She Said Sure. After That She let me borrow the book and I reed only part of it and that part was Maui and The Kahului Railroad. At the end of school i went home lay on my bed play games on my phone and I wonder if their was a video about Kahului Railroad And soon or later there was and that video Was and it was This One. still this day i am still learning about The Railroad Of Maui Hawaii.

Uncle Mikey just passed on August 4th 2021 he was the last retired railroad worker

uncle Mikey Still lives on today Edit on December of 17 2021 He used to not anymore. God bless
