Matthieu Ricard on Compasson

Matthieu Ricard shares his thoughts on compassion as part of the TEDPrize@UN celebration of the Charter For Compassion.
As a molecular geneticist turned Buddhist monk, Ricard brings a wholly unique perspective to the practice of meditation. Often referred to as "the happiest man in the world," he advises us in the ways to imbue our lives with a true sense of serenity and fulfillment. His latest book is entitled 'Why Meditate?' and available via all major booksellers.
All of the author's proceeds from the sale of this book go to Karuna-Shechen, a humanitarian organization that he founded to provide primary health care and education for the underserved populations of the Himalayan region.

I like to look at the word 'compassion' from the Greek derfinition: understanding without judgement. Regardless, it gives me a sense of Peace to think that way.

The fact that you lash out in aggressive reactions kind of shows you are still suffering (hey, who isn't?). Maybe you are not ready to acknowledge or fix that - that is ok, we all work at our own pace. But if some part of you understands you would feel happier if you could just let these discussions go, or even say something nice to, or help somebody, then at least this video has shown you where to start. This really works. It's up to you to take it or leave it.

It's much more obvious now that you ask. I'm sorry, it must be painful. I believe your vulnerability could become your strength if only you'll find a safe place to express yourself truthfully

@bongrippar Fear and vulnerability breed hostility, it takes courage and confidence to be compassionate.

@bongrippar Well I guess that's why you can't seem to take anything seriously.

I kind of doubt you would be here unless you were searching for something better. Good luck, hope you will find the good oil that works for you.

If that works with a cruel dictator fine, otherwise they need removing like a sore tooth.

@bongrippar I guess you don't get any sleep at all since you seem to be so full of fear. You see, you seem to think that you're being tough and strong by lashing out... but you just come across as being so vulnerable and full of fear.

How disrespectful to The Charter for Compassion and to Matthieu Ricard you are to be speaking like this. Why did you even come here I wonder? I find it very strange that you chose this video, of all the millions of youtube videos, to be so mean. Maybe you think it's funny. I hope you find peace and compassion brother.
