God I miss those days and these fights! I'm going to watch this a million more times lol!

Great to see the raw post-fight footage. You can hear Saad say “no more easy fights” around 52:53. Prophetic words! He went on to engage in some major wars over the next two years: John Conteh right after this; the rematch with Yaqui Lopez; struggles with Vonzell Johnson and Jerry Martin, and of course Dwight Qawi. You gotta appreciate the respect he had for Johnson. He warned the world to look out for Johnson after this fight. Victor Galindez didn’t listen!

Rhis was a great fight. Maybe better then there 1st fight in 1977. That was a 12 round knockout Franklin over Johnson

Saad was punishing Johnson to the body big time. Johnson always started fast in all of his fights but he always ran out of gas. At the end of 5 he looked to be in trouble….at the end of 6 looked like he was on his way out and at the end of 7 he had a fork stuck in him. Courageous fighter Marvin was but his cardio was his detriment. That crowd was upset with the stoppage but that was really a life saving stoppage.

I Love this fight, Saad threw over 70 punches at Johnson to end the fight. I probably watched this fight over a 100 times !

Yes I did, can anyone upload fights ? I started tapeing fights on vhs in March 1980, so I got a lot of fight's .

When boxing had WARRIORS, not pretty boys like today....

@@ironbarboxing7509 I turned pro in 88 for Carmen Graziano. We trained at the Pleasantville Rec Center in south Jersey. Saad was at the end, end, end of his career. He trained hard every day. It was sad to see him spar and the people around him telling him he looked like a champ. My career was a bust. 27 fights and lost 13 of them. Stopped 6 times. When it all went bust I tried to drink myself to death for a few years. Wound up in trouble, typical fighter story. I've been off booze and drugs for 15 years now. I had to deal with my past. Boxing is part of my messed up past. When I got out in 94 I hated boxing. I am still not a fan. First time I ever saw Tyson Fury fight was about a month ago. Broke down and watched some highlights. I was impressed. I watch old fights when I do watch boxing. All these fighters, some I knew, and how they ended up is so sad. I'm Grateful to be where I am today. I learned so much about life through boxing that I didn't realize till I was able to reflect on that part of my past. I mean, ever heard of Todd Hickman, Charlie White Lightening Brown, Tony Surerro, and a slew of others? I knew those guys. They are dead. Have been for years and years. Boxing, like anything, is not what it seems on tv and the internet, I promise. I see comments on certain people praising the man to be The God of boxing and a stellar human and sometimes, I get pissed and comment on what a douche that person really was and of course, it always leads to what do I know, who am I I'm a bum, etc. Saad Muhammad was a solid human being. Carl The Truth was a solid human being. Hell, most fighters I ever met from Brian Barbosa to Camacho were decent people. Some were douche bags, like George Foreman, Boxing, honestly, is FULL of homosexual pedophiles. Joe Sousa being one. Ever heard of him? He was a Pedo Perv. Referee at the 86 National Golden Gloves tried to get some off me, Johnny Avon Jr. I mangled him. Ask the 1986 Cleveland Boxing Team that went to the Nationals that year. Thanks for posting this fight. Do me a favor, if you would, try to find some fights of Ralph Moncrief, a middleweight out of Cleveland, Ohio, and post them, would you? Thanks, pal.

@@robertstroud7561 - The stuff I hear about Foreman fascinates me. He always seems so personable and down to earth, but you're certainly not the first person I've heard say the truth is quite different. Someone I used to work with tried to get an autograph from Big George once, and went from being a fan to absolutely loathing the man. I am glad to hear that Saad Muhammad was one of the good guys, though.

Matt Franklin what a fighter, what a story. With a story like his it’s hard to imagine how he’s not a household name and had movies made about him. Incredible quality video.

@@giuseppelarocca2930 Other than the disney part I agree wholeheartedly. Everybody on earth should know who Saad is simply because he was THE DEFINITION of courage in ALL ASPECTS of life. Think about it, just think about it.

What fighters they had back then.

Savage body attack by Saad throughout the fight but particularly intense in round 6. That's where he won the fight. The left hooks to the liver were devastating but he landed a straight right to Johnson's stomach just below the breast bone that almost broke Marvin in half. He was an exhausted, hurt and beaten fighter after that one punch.

A saad story

Oh father I loved watching this slugging southpaw but Mathew God rest his toughness he was super human machine he can slug ya out of there and he got up when down plus remember the beating he survived against Lopez in the rematch that seemed impossible but he survived and won
