Thank you Brother Bytheway and Dr. Martin. A loved one of mine was badly bullied and I needed to hear both your counsel and testimonies. We need a workshop/fireside online for the youth and YSA Brother Bytheway for those who've endured bullying. Some are our RM's who were bullied serving missions.

I too was bullied in our home by my older sister, she bullied me from the womb..this set me up for 8 boys to continue her sayings…I have PTSD due to this, I’m the only child out of my family that’s (10) children ACTIVE in church…the scriptures have saved me, The first scripture that I memorized was the 23rd psalm, from a child, and that scripture kept me going, until I was introduced to the book of Mormon, and in the book of Mormon in Alma 36, verse three I have memorized that one clear through two verse 26 and 27, they are my Go to’s for trials…which I’m well aquatinted with

I loved this lesson so much!! Thank you! One of my favorite scriptures is 1 Nephi 22:26 “26 And because of the righteousness of his people, Satan has no power; wherefore, he cannot be loosed for the space of many years; for he hath no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigneth” Satan was bound because of their righteousness! We can do this too!! We NEED to do this to establish Zion!

Dr. Marten my heart goes out to you. I was also bullied all through school. Elementary to high school and even now as an adult! I'm 52 by the way. I have people who talk about me behind my back because of the 2ay I dress and because I'm an extreme extrovert, and because I talk a lot to get to know people. I always have a story that relates to others so sometimes people think I'm lying.

As you were talking about the temptations of Christ, a thought came to me. John was talking about how you’d have a great following if people saw you jump of the temple and be saved etc. but that’s not what the Savior did. I loved what all of you are teaching here and it made me think of the prophecies of how many believers will be fooled by the anti-Christ in the last days because of the incredible miracles he will do. The Saviors miracles were were to solve needs, to teach, to lead man to Heavenly Father. The anti-Christ will be building himself up for the praise of man. Not really able to explain my thoughts about this but I think learning of Jesus and learning to hear Him, we will be able to know the difference.

Bullying was more common back then and I felt myself in her experience and it has taken me many years to forgive and heal from it. I’m so sorry for all who have been subjected to it at the hands of those who should have been their friends. It has given me a lot of compassion for others and I’m grateful for that. I loved Jan’s healing tactics and finally learned to use them as well. That was perfect, thank you for being so honest and helpful. ❤❤❤

I was particularly touched by Jan's personal story about bullying and how memorizing scriptures helped change her beliefs about how she viewed herself. I resolved that I also want to start memorizing some scriptures moving forward. I found the Doctrinal Mastery app allows me to chose custom content from within Gospel Library (so basically anything you want) and add it to My Content filter, and voila - I'm working to memorize my first scripture right now (Abraham 2:8)!! Thank you, thank you! ❤️

I have not listened to the whole of Pt 1, as yet. At the half way point I was struck by Dr Martin's discussion of the temptations and bullying, perhaps even by people we know. At my urban Mennonite church we are in the midst of a series on the book of Psalms, inspired by my telling of the great podcasts with Dr Hopkin and Dr Huntsman last August. The speaker has chosen to speak about Psalm 55. In the realm of the Holy Spirit is at work, an Orthodox voice student of mine said that yesterday, Wednesday 02/01, is when Psalm 55 was read in the process of reading all 150 Psalms in the month. Also, there is a tradition of reading the Psalm that leads to your next birthday on a daily basis. His father, 54, is reading Psalm 55 every day. This Psalm contains challenges of abuse, of bullying and our response. V 23 - "cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he will sustain thee". Thanks be to God. There are no coincidences in the Holy Spirit.

I love all of this so much!!! I would especially love if Dr. Jan would post of list of the scriptures she memorized that helped her overcome the lies about who she is and remember the truth about who she is after being bullied so much. This would be especially helpful in this time and world we live. I’m sure that everyone has to find their own to some degree but little children who are beginning to go through this and young adults who’ve had so much of this could really use a jump start to even hear these and begin to believe they have worth. Thank you so much for all the personal experiences that help us make the scriptures personal for us!♥️

It's not that easy. What works for you may be different. It took her time, earnest seeking, communing with the Lord through the Holy Spirit and repetitive memorization. It will take all that for the scriptures to be effective for you too. The promise is there already, but you have to do the work for the blessing to come.

OK - I'm a Sunday School teacher - and you are so right - how can this ever be taught in 50 minutes - 50 minutes barely gets us thru the 2nd temptation - I thought I understood these scriptures - but now I have a whole new light - - I've been preparing now for 3 days - and am only starting the 3rd temptation - Of course, I will modify the lesson to fit the time - Keep these up as I learn so much - and I have a few people in class that also listen/watch these - I'm retired now so I have the time to put it - I feel for those that are still working and have to prepare - Love the discussion .

Great job guys! The closer we stay to God and studying His Word, we are much better equipped to recognize and stave off Satan's attempts to deceive us; and are stronger Christians to put on the whole armor of God. This is the main thing I instill in new Christians so that they will be ready for these attacks. Keep up the good work guys. God is proud of you; and many depend on your knowledge and teachings. God Bless you all. Amen

Great lesson as always. Just a few notes that I thought of while listening. One thing that stands out to me about the temptation story is that the Savior was the only one there on the mountain, so any account we have of the event comes from him, and it's something he wanted us to know. One of the greatest things about it is when Satan appeared before him, he didn't use whatever feeling he was feeling to judge it, he used the written word of God. It teaches us to look to the scriptures in times like this and, like was mentioned in the lesson, if we can recite those scriptures it's much more powerful than any willpower we can muster up. Another thing I thought of was when you guys were talking about the long fast that Jesus went on. I know a few people personally who have done 6 week (42 days) fasts before. They say that there's a moment in the fast where it feels as though the heavens open up to you and you can ask anything and get an answer.

One of the greatest temptations was to use his power to get people to believe in him.. when Satan took Jesus on the mountain he wasn’t showing him the riches of the world but instead was showing him the people of the world. Satan told Jesus that he would give to Jesus all the people in the world their adoration and love. He was saying that he could influence everyone to believe in Jesus. Remember that Satan had to put things up for Jesus that really would tempt him.

They are not. 10:40 Holland's BYU March 1999, Cast Not Away Therefore Your Confidence. 53:43 "One may not look where he is going, but will go where he is looking." 53:43. The Holy Spirit leads you up. Good to think about. Gen X's had a difficult time growing up. The movies were anti children, the attitude was just adults didn't want to be bothered in general. The millennials came along and then it was 'baby on board', helmets, safe playgrounds, pampering, etc. Neil Howe in Generations and The Fourth Turning addresses this. Neil Howe has been interviewed by Tony Robbins recently and others in the past and they are on youtube if interested regarding every 80+- years, we have a "Turning."

I would like to go into the wilderness to be closer to God, but as a woman, I feel uncomfortable going off into a place by myself where I might be vulnerable, whether to animals or to people with evil designs. Men have the privilege of being able to go off by themselves and they often don't understand why women feel uncomfortable doing that.
