Matters of Opinion (Romans 14) - 119 Ministries

Paul says not to judge others on matters of days or food; is he teaching against the Torah here? Paul’s letters can be very confusing at the best of times. Sometimes he is addressing things concerning the Law of God, the Torah. Other times he appears to be addressing matters of opinion, such as in Romans 14.

If knowing Greek was a requirement to understand then why did the Holy Spirit at Pentecost have everyone understand in their own language instead of teaching them all Greek? Paul is indefensible in every language on earth.

Ordinances are not required friend. Hebrews 9:1-10 is clear about this as well as: (Ephesians 2:15) "the law of commandments contained in ordinances;" (Colossians 2:14) "the handwriting of ordinances;" (Hebrews 7:16) "the law of a fleshly commandment;" (Hebrews 9:10) "carnal ordinances;" The 7th day Sabbath is a commandment not an ordinance. Ordinances of the Jews: The Sabbath is never called Sabbath of the Jews EVER! However many times different feasts are called “feast of the Jews”. John 11:55 “Now the Passover 👉of the Jews👈 was near” John 6:4 “Now the Passover, the 👉feast of the Jews,👈 was near.” John 5:1 “After this there was a 👉feast of the Jews👈, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.” John 2:13 “And the Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.” John 7:2 “Now the 👉Jews’ Feast of Tabernacles👈 was at hand.” But the Sabbath is always OF THE LORD OR GOD CALLS IT “MY HOLY DAY” Exodus 20:10 “But the seventh day is the sabbath 👉of the Lord thy God👈” Isaiah 58:13 “If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on 👉my holy day👈; and call the sabbath a delight, the 👉holy of the LORD👈...” Jesus says the Sabbath was made for MAN, not Jews… Mark 2:27 Ephesians 2 Paul himself defines what this "law of commandments contained in ordinances" is; it is "the enmity"-which he mentions twice (verses 15-16)-between Jews and Gentiles (see verses 11-12). He also calls it "the middle wall of division" in verse 14. Whatever "the law of commandments contained in ordinances" is, it causes hatred and division. This rules out right away that it refers to God's law, for it, Paul writes in Romans 7:12, "is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good." We can solve our dilemma with one passage from Jesus' own mouth, speaking to the scribes and Pharisees of His day: Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

@@amsterdamG2G The feasts pointed to Christ and hist ministry and coming judgment. In multiple places in the new testament it says they were symbols and carnal. The new testament is constantly about the spiritual. Focus on the feasts spiritual aspects, they aren’t what righteousness is by outward observing the feasts. Hebrews 8, 9:1-10, 10 and 11 explain this very well. They were for a time and didn’t change the heart of the individuals. They are called CARNAL ordinances in Hebrews 9. That’s the point. Hebrews 9 also says “imposed UNTIL the time of reformation”. Old testament was the gospel in types and shadows. New Testament was the gospel in verity and antitypes.

It’s great to understand Paul’s Jewish mindset and even the gentiles mindset. I think Paul is actually hitting two birds with one stone. While there may have been Jews in the diaspora that refrained from eating clean meat (because they didn’t know if it had been deemed common) there were also many Greek schools of philosophy that also did not eat meat. Many Pythagorean minded gentiles coming to the faith in the God of scripture were already vegetarian. They had already written plenty on the subject of animal killing and eating as being the cause of human suffering. You had philosophers like Pythagoras, and many before and even after him, that taught vegetarianism as being moral and they disagreed with the animals sacrifices going on in their own pagan temples. Vegetarians were called Pythagorean’s up until pretty recently. It was found among the gnostics which Paul also mentions in his letters. So they’d come to faith in Yeshua but would see Gods People eating meat, which was clearly allowed in the Old Testament, including eating lamb at Passover, and the priests in the temple would eat meat also. They had a problem with all meat. They would eventually travel to Jerusalem, keeping the feast, as one grafted in and adopted. They would see the killing and eating of clean animals. They would not eat meat but they refrained not on grounds of Torah or Halacha. They would refrain based on their ideas of Gnostic vegetarianism. It was a matter of enlightenment and sign of piousness, the moral high ground. This letter to them in Rome would have taken both groups by surprise.

And at the same time Paul says if you allow yourself to be circumcised you have to keep the whole law. So if we don't allow ourselves to be circumcised then we're not obligated to keep the law. So by Paul telling us that then that means we're not obligated to do anything except love and have faith in Jesus.

“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.” ‭‭Titus‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

If I could relate I remember feeling super excited and also frustrated at the same time realizing that I had been taught the wrong interpretation of scriptures for a long time. And then falling into an ego spin. I couldn’t understand how others weren’t seeing what I was seeing. It’s the wrong attitude to have. Romams 7:4-12 "Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you also were put to death in regard to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were brought to light by the Law, were at work in the parts of our body to bear fruit for death. 6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter." "What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Far from it! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law; for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.” 8 But sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind; for apart from the Law sin is dead. 9 I was once alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin came to life, and I died; 10 and this commandment, which was [p]to result in life, proved to result in death for me; 11 for sin, taking an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me, and through it, killed me. 12 So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good."

What other day is esteemed above the Sabbath or equal to the Sabbath day of which we can choose to honor YHWH or keep holy? Paul is implying that this choice exists within our faith to God yet God says different and that we are to guard this seventh day to honor Him and Him alone. If a man chooses another day and honors it rather than the Sabbath because of his faith in a man who claimed to be God or a messiah then this man is committing idolatry and breaking the Sabbath. Where does man get to choose what day to set apart to YHWH? Exo 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exo 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: Exo 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of YHWH thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: Exo 20:11 For in six days YHWH made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore YHWH blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it. What law allows us to eat "all things" as Paul claims and allows us to choose what we will eat? Remember Paul even justifies eating meats offered to idols if one chooses and doesn't offend someone else who does not eat it. Eating certain foods will defile you and make you unclean and if you intentionally do this you will be in rebellion to YHWH. Paul makes no distinction between what is clean or unclean of the foods offered to idols in the market. In Torah there were no meats offered in a marketplace after they had been offered or sacrificed unto YHWH, Only the priest and the one who offered it where to partake of the meat. Again, where does man get to choose foods outside of what is established by God? These are not matters of our opinion. They are matters of God and His opinion.

119 Team, Always edifying to see how you all inductively study Word of God. In light this teaching, would request if you can please expound on this passage as well, please. 1 Corinthians 10:23-33 NASB95 - "All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor. Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience’ sake; FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD’S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS. If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscience’ sake. But if anyone says to you, “This is meat sacrificed to idols,” do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience’ sake; I mean not your own conscience, but the other man’s; for why is my freedom judged by another’s conscience? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks? Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense either to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God; just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit but the profit of the many, so that they may be saved."

“And God said to Abraham, “As for you, you shall keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you throughout their generations. This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭17‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Torah correct? “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭15‬ ‭ESV‬‬ So where are we drawing the line brothers? “But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Let this be a warning.

In 1 Cor 5 Paul is not teaching them how to keep the Passover. He is taking the information they already know about Passover and using it as a comparison to the situation he is writing to them about regarding the man committing sexual immorality. He is saying that a little yeast ruins all the dough. Just like at Passover we get all the leaven out of the house, so too, they must get this man committing sexual immortality out of their spiritual house. Full context always. Test everything.

Your thoughts are not Christian. Its hard for belivers to think of you as one of us. You and your way of thinking are a distraction to true believers, your thoughts are impure and you should ask for forgiveness and understanding of the Word.

Shocked and distressed at the opinions of both Scott and Daniel. Perhaps you could keep your negative thoughts to yourselves?

The lengths this channel goes to in order to defend Paul's outright Lawlessness literally makes me feel sick. Paul is the Man of Lawlessness and pretending he meant the opposite of what he actually says is really unsettling. The church is waiting on an Antichrist when he is right there in their heart and minds already. Paul: "Dont keep the Law." 119 Ministries: "he actually meant keep the Law by that."

I am confused. Do you like this channel? Your comment of "makes me feel sick", intimates that you have watched several or many videos. Why would you keep watching something that "literally" makes you sick? ps, love the irony of Rev. 14:12

@@paulwiederhold7629 where is the irony in the verse i chose? Paul teaches that the Law is dead and that the Law is a curse and that obeying the Law means you "have fallen from grace." He even said he wouldve never coveted unless God told him not to covet. He blames the Law for making him sin!! "To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. 21 To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some." 1 Corinthians 9:20-22 Like Paul they will say anything you want to hear in order to make sure you don't reject the Man of Lawlessness. Paul says from his own mouth he is not under the Law so he ought to be rejected without a second thought and yet this channel instead did a 9 hour documentary saying "by dont keep the Law he meant keep the Law." Now a question for you: how does Paul save people? He says he lies to everyone he meets so he can save them. How does Paul save?
