Here's an excerpt I copied down: Consciousness localises itself as the finite mind in order to experience something that seems to be other than itself called a world made out of matter. But in fact the world that is made out of apparent matter that it is experiencing through your finite mind - both your finite mind, the subject, and the object that it experiences is made out of the same consciousness. There are only two separate substances from the point of view of the separate self, the finite mind. In other words, duality only comes into apparent existence when consciousness overlooks the knowing of its own being and localises itself in and as a body.

@@darrenfromla I think his point though, is that we as a society automatically presume one of the models is true that is absolutely not our experience. Why would we choose a model that is based on a presumption that nobody has ever experienced? It would be much better to start from the position of direct experience and build a model from there... Then maybe make a theory that matter MAY exist outside of consciousness. Right now we fundamentally believe that matter exists outside of consciousness, which dramatically impacts the way that we do science and understand what is happening here.

  • @darrenfromla

@@gaiasmind4989 but why make a model at all? Rupert likes to say that we can understand truths about consciousness and the nature of the universe by recognizing that all experience happens in consciousness. To believe you are getting an understanding of reality by agreeing with that model is just another religion because there is no proof that it is true. Ruperts model requires belief and that makes it a religion

imagine an invisible field of wavy like energy, its infinitely large and our universe appears in one of its infinite number of ripples. A ripple is like a wave in the ocean which rises up and then collapses. just like the ocean wave which is made of water, (the very same water that the ocean itself is made of, the wave which is the effect of its vibration doesn't truly exist and is just energy. Our energy field, as the waves (ripple), and begin to rise up they take on apparent form, and artificial space and time, then they reach a peak or a tipping point and then they collapse back into the field. As the ripples rise and collapse particles temporarily come into existence which form worlds with, spacetime, people and animals and what we call existence itself. The energy field is INFINITELY large, each ripple or wave is also INFINITELY large and our teeny weeny, unnoticed by the field universe is made of and rises from one of the ripples and probably many more universes exist in the same ripple too. its most likely only 2 dimensional and resembles an infinitely large thin sheet of energy, which obviously vibrates creating the ripples. As each wave rises it creates artificial space and artificial time, and an artificial 3 dimensional reality. Within each one vibrating ripple are an infinite number of smaller infinitely large vibrating ripples each and every one adding colour and variety and diversity to the artificial world we call the real solid world, none of it is real other than from the point of view of an aware artificially constructed subject inside that artificial reality. The energy field is made of energy and is only energy and knows no other thing, [come on stretch your minds now]. the field is infinitely large, an object or universe is like a teeny. weeny flea that goes un noticed on the butt of a giant elephant.. the energy field also known as pure awareness, Consciousness pervades all things, we come from there, enter a state we call deep sleep which is a veil, enter the pre world or REM sleep/dreaming. And from there we awaken into the artificial 3 dimensional reality and think 'I'm back', then ask 'where's the coffee?' As time passes our own unique energy wave is rising up within each of us and we see the effect of that as bodily ageing, when our unique energy wave reaches its peak it will again collapse (death) into itself. falling asleep to its artificial self and will once again wake up in the infinite field of One. Home once more. These are just my own thoughts on Non Duality and hope I have understood some of what Rupert is speaking in his talks.

So in order to feel or know myself to be infinite consciousness I need to start looking at the world out there as consciousness too, not just focusing on the consciousness in my head and then I should merge with it and expand ? Or is it that everything I experience is really what it looks like inside myself/brain?

As much as I like Rupert, I’ve heard him make this argument before and I don’t think you can take “infinite space” (which by definition is infinite) and make it “finite” by simply putting an object in it. It’s still infinite space except now there is a finite object within it.

Spira is right. Finite and infinite cannot exist together. Just as ‘matter’ and ‘infinite consciousness’ cannot both exist. You experience one or the other, not both. Quantum science proves that matter has no set properties, such as size, without being perceived. Perception is reality. Objective reality is a delusion. Accepting this truth means giving up all you cling to in your little world. Giving up on your life. If you cant do that, then suffering is your fate… but you know that already… but don’t worry, death is coming - The unavoidable salvation from the story of ‘me’.

The best 22 mins of my life since a very long time!!Pure Consciousness which is gods true state and is the only thing that truly exists by which all other forms are made see's Itself as an infinite form and cant see or view anthing else that which is not infinite in itself and will therefore reject anything outside the realm of infinity by not percieving its existence at all and therefore make it totally unreconizable! Now the problem with man..who is pure consciousness and therefore infinite as Gods doesnt see it that way and now sees a limited or finite form of himself because of what the body seems to be projecting itself to be which is a limited form, but in the true reality of all is just an extension of his infinite consciousness ,but now cannot see the infinite being he is anymore cause of minds new view of itself as finite and creates illusions of all kinds which now is forced to not reconize the other anymore. This seperation triggered a melt down which resulted in the true and only first man as Adam to be put into protection as to keep him pure and was therefor put to sleep but could continue his work and fucntion in a dream state where he could procreate man as different personalities without having to risk any contamination so to speak by keeping him alive. From here on man needs to find his way back and which is to see himself with his body as infinite and all other men in that dream with him living and creating as finite forms must see themselves as only one and by doing so they will eventually be brought back to perfection which was their true home to strart off with..

It certainly leaves out something very important. I believe we are Unity Consciousness at the very core, but the whole point of becoming individuated is to experience the qualities of the Divine/ Consciousness through the physical senses; therefore, we are given an eternal soul to evolve to the point where it is able to do this. Perhaps we started out completely able to do this, but the "ego' developed because of severe traumas; i.e., through cataclysms, et al, and the human race could not have survived without an ego. The problem is we have not learned how to contain the ego so as to allow Consciousness to live this life through us. Just my 2 cents, and I'm quite eclectic. When I left religion 18 years ago, this is what became the most sensible, reasonable and possible to me, and I keep coming back to it again and again. We all must do this for ourselves. I've gone around and around listening to Non-Duality, Astrotheology and Gnosticism teaches, and there seems to be a combined truth to all of them.

Sorry Rupert, from the point of view of conciousness finate subject and object exist! Though only as a temporary formation in continual flux made out of other formations both physical and mental. Consciousness does not forget or is ever displaced!! The finate or matter, is the infinate, always in transformation. The buddha one of many sages points out, form is emptiness and emptiness is form. Emptiness means that everything contains the seeds of all forms of life, to be empty is to be full of everything, therefore devoid of an individual self. Duality is a temporary expression or abode forever changing. Mostly the finate worlds are in a state of sleep. To wake up is to feel the infinate nature that is behind and prior to the senses world of subject and object. That recognition is enlightenment, freedom from self, the fraudulent claimer of ownership of life.

related to body-mind- concession and practicality are two confusing terms. Isn't the advaita teaching supposed to be most practical, based on experience? Why then concessions and what's with the two aspects of practicality? It appears that most of us spend most of the time in concessions, for practical reasons... while knowing the truth of who we are just makes life less of a chore and more of a celebration= takes the edge off life. Is this the 'practical' aspect of the teaching as a concession to living in the body-mind as an illusory separate self in a world viewed as made of objects?
