MATTEL MAJOR MATT MASON VINTAGE TOY COLLECTION 1960s
Ойын-сауық
Here is another short film showing some of the items in my collection. This time the little bendy rubber space explorer MAJOR MATT MASON and his space pals! Produced from 1967 to I believe 1970 when the Space Race was on everyones thoughts. Hope you enjoy this little over view of my modest collection. Thanks for watching.

Brings back memories. I had the space station and the crawler. One of the best Christmases ever.
I used to have all this. Was best Christmas gift ever.

Me, too. The Martian glowed in the dark, and the crawler was awesome!
Excellent collection 👌 👍 👏 😀
Man, if I only knew then, what I know now about having classic collectibles! Jeez!
Thanks for the neat video. I had almost all those Matt Mason toys as a boy growing up in the 60's. I didn't know they were popular in England also. I didn't have the Giant Space Alien because that just did not make any sense. I did have Calisto though. He came with a Space Gun that used the air bellows to shoot out and retract a yellow string to look like a Ray. By the way, your Space Crawler wheels are misaligned. They are not meant to be evenly matched on each side. They are supposed to be off set so as Matt travels on the moon he clunks from left to right. You can fix it by holding one wheel steady and rotating the other wheel till it Clunks into place. Your set is in great condition. I bought a few Matt pieces a few years ago but each character had a metal rod broken in a limb. Their bendy days were over. I had a hell of a time finding a Helmet and visor in good condition.
Cool thing I remember about the crawler was that, if you remove the beacon, there's claw things up on the roof of the space station that you can attach it to. Then you can use it as a crane that could rotate under it's own power, with a power winch (in the 'tail' of the crawler).
the bloody arms always broke .......great memories

Yeah.
thanks for the video, fond memories. The back pack with the swirly red and black etc ..lol pulled my folks ceramic beer jug trying to make him fly... can still remember the soft rubber tubing on the capsule Matt sat in , anyone else ?
Thank you for the video. Growing up in middle America (Nebraska) I never thought of kids in England liking Major Matt Mason, but I never thought of much beyond my famiky, street, and neighborhood. (I was a KID). Love the British accent on the commentary
I had every piece of Major Matt Mason as a kid. I was a child tester at Mettel HQ in Hawthorne CA.

@@AtomicSkiStuntman Oh yeah breaking toys was half the fun. But I think Virde bird helicopter was the best toy I tested. Got to bring him home like one every week, and play with until they break
ahhh what memories from 42 years ago (50 years old now) - I had Major Matt Mason myself. Thanks modmart
I had the Astronaut with the yellow suit I had a later one as I remember the yellow coming off.He was with red track vehicle. This would of been around 1969.I pretended I didn't want it but my great aunt new me well and bought it.This and a Horikawa fighting robot was my favorite things.I treasured them for years.I used to ly down on the carpet with them both infront of me watching my favorite show Lost in Space.
Man.... am I JEALOUS!!!! I had lots of that stuff as a kid in the 60's. It's all long gone. I wish I'd kept them. The dolls, the Crawler, jet pack, sled, moon base, moon buggy... sigh....
The joints used to break quite easily his internal frame was a tin wire that after bending it to many times it broke and couldn't be fixed

Melvin Alejandro that ticked me off too 🙁
Every single thing I gave away became a collectors' item, and every single thing I kept became worthless! Dang! How could I have figured that? I remember donating my Matt Mason stuff in 1971 along with a lot of other toys I am sure are valuable now. Don't ask me to pick stocks for you.
Youve got a lot of cool stuff that I have never seen before. Thank you for sharing
Ahh the memories as a kid. Growing up during the space program, I had Major Matt Mason, Sgt Storm, Jeff Long and Callisto. I also had the Unitrak and the Space bubble plus the Space Capsule which was like a carrying case . The hours spent playing with that. And when we set foot on the moon, the good Maj and crew was right there watching with me.

My brother and I had these back in the late 60's. Of course all our toys back then usually got worn out or destroyed.
I never had them, but my best friend did. From the station, to the walker, to the glider... oh the stories we came up with defeating monsters and getting out of jams and rescues from under the beds! hahhaha.. GREAT MEMORIES! (and I recently noticed that David Collins (Dark Shadows) and the station in his bedroom for a few scenes.. how cool is that?)
I was about 6 or 7 when these came out. Along with GI Joe they were my favorites! I had the space station and still have the crawler with the box today. And still have a Sgt. Storm. Wish I had saved more. I still remember the Christmas when I got the Space Station and my first MMM. I had snuck out into the living room really early in the morning and by the lights of the Christmas tree had it set up before my parents and little sister even woke up. It was magical!

Loved Maj. Matt Mason, I had him, Doug Davis, Sgt. Storm and Callisto. I had the space capsule, the unitrac and the space bubble. The hours I spent playing with them until I got into Johnny West and G.I.Joe.
I MAY HAVE A STROKE!!! MY FAVORITE TOYS EVER!!!!!!!!!
I have a mint Matt mason coloring book now. As a kid I had Matt Mason toys, for some reason I loved the helmet with the yellow visor. I grew up in Chicago, I didn't know they were popular over seas. Cheers from Milwaukee Wisconsin 🇺🇲🥶❄️ P.s Yes it's color not colour, trunk not boot, glove box not jockey box, flash light not torch, phone not dog and bone 😂 Merry Christmas to your cousins across the pond 🇬🇧🏴
Major Matt Mason was my favorite toy when I was a kid. In the 1990's I was working at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. I found out that Ruth Handler was working with one of the Cedars charity organizations and arranged to meet her. I brought a vintage Barbie and Ken for her to sign, and a MMM to show her my favorite childhood toy. She laughed and said, "Oh, the spaceman...he wasn't very successful." Then she asked if I wanted her to sign him too! My guess is that I have the only Ruth Handler-signed MMM in the world.😎
UNREAL! I had that old space station set as a kid! MMM so ruled my youth! Great set!
"Spice Rice" LOL. Love the Aussie accent. Loved these toys as a kid. So cool looking. Favorite was Captain Laser and the Space Station.
I had Matt and the sled, and the crawler. My cousin had I think everything, including the station.
Yes! Superboy ads were where I saw MMM. I was trying to recall which comic one I had sen him in first. Never in person though mid/late 70's kid, here) Very cool. Hole you still have your collection and maybe got to ads to it too. Thanks fir the video
Major Matt Mason and his glider were the only toys I took when we moved to Australia. Immediately chewed to pieces by dogs on day one. Major life lesson.
great video, great collection! so envious
It just occurred to me that the Space Station was the boys' equivalent of a dollhouse.
I won the MMM Space Station from a coloring contest in the Sunday newspaper comics. I colored in the Funny Face drink cartoons. Over the next three years I got all the other major MMM toys. Recently my son sold most of them on Ebay.
I had most of the Matt Mason toys. I won a Funny Face Flavor Drink contest when I was in grade school. I colored in some Funny Face figure in the comic. I won the space station, the crawler and the MMM. A later added the cannon, the tall space man, and a bunch other.
マテル、なつかしい👍
I always remembered that I had a cool toy as a kid 5-6 yrs old with lots of great accessories, but could never remember the name or even that it was Moon landing related. I had periodically done random research trying to remember what my favorite toy was called. A couple of weeks ago, we were watching the pilot episode of Stargate SG-1 and character Samantha Carter's reference to Major Matt Mason. Finally, I fully remembered the best toy ever invented, in all it's kid chokable glory.
Nice to see you have the early thin ring helmet on the WR Matt as well.
I had Doug Davis & Callisto as a kid. Twenty five years later I tried to get the full set, along w/ some vehicles and the station. Got all but Doug and Scorpio because I couldn't find them at an affordable price in decent condition. Had to sell the figs I collected, but managed to hold on to the station, crawler, Seeker. Mattel is releasing a new line of Mego's. Seems MMM would be a natural for re-release too.
I had an extensive set of Mason toys when I was a kid. The coolest thing about the space crawler was that it would mount on the space station and had a winch with a rope and hook that really worked. It was similar to a crane and gantry system when on its side and mounted to the station. This was very cool, especially for those of us that were REALLY into the space program. Many of the designs, like the hokey moon suit, where actually on the NASA drawing board.
Matt Mason, toute mon enfance !!!
My father gave our toys away to other families when we had had them 3 years. I guess he thought we were to old. That usually upset us, but he was still a great papa. Those children were poorer.
I had those when I was a kid we had the best toys then
amazing collection!they look new
Oh my god I had one but I thought it was major Nelson thank-you for sharingbyour gift
These were very simple yet very popular toys as I remember, they are quite expensive on E Bay these days !
Great collection. I wish I still had my Major Matt Masson. I pretty much had the whole set up. Really enjoyed the space station.
Awesome! I had them! And Billy Blast-off too!
Jeez I loved Major Matt Mason as a kid. Had three of the figures and the tower and other acceseries. Great collection there.
That's right mate. he was called SCORPIO. Now one of the rarest in the set.
Great review...just learning about the line more and more ...Awesome figures and playsets.. Thank you from Western Canada.
@Stepper11 Correction: it was Jeff, not Doug, I had as a kid.
I LOVED that stuff as a kid!
I had a Major Matt Mason doll when I was in kindergarten. It was white. My dad kept telling me not to throw him up in the air or else he'd land on the roof and I wouldn't be able to get him. I kept throwing him and then, of course, he got caught on our roof. I used to be able to see him lying there on my roof as our family rode out of the driveway to church. One day, years later, my dad got him off the roof and all his white paint had fallen off. He was totally black and looked cooler, I thought. Thanks for the memories.
Very cool. I only had one of the Matt Mason figures and a thing that looked like something from out of this world like a sproket that came out of the wheels were more like spokes that came from the center of these things like octopuses arms and it went forward with clicking noises. I didn't like the wire breaking but have some cool pics of me sleeping with it in my hand while out for the count.
Nice Collection...I like all your other vintage toys too.
pretty cool seeing this collection , it made me go look for mine and i found 1 of my matt mason figures in my attic in a box along with the callisto figure and electron the man from pluto made by colorforms. brings back great old memories. thanks for posting this video! cheers!!
Great video. Certainly brings back memories of these very fun toys from my early years. Mine bit the dust as-well; those thin wires in their bodies would poke out after hours of play and become a hazard. I also remember the coloring books; which I probably had more fun with seeings though I couldn't get the expensive ( at that time ) accessories.
Hi modmart I had major matt too, wish I still had 'em
Great video., i had all them toys, my brother made a Davros out calisto he stuck him in a half Dalek thanks for the memories
Very nice. I'm getting ready to shot a series of videos on my collection and I'm inspired by your video.
One of my favourite toys ever. MMM was THE best space man figure. I had the little guy plus the spiral back pack & the sled. I didn't get the others in the collection but great to see what was available. You sure know your subject. Nicky

The only toy I remember getting as a kid..I had the bubble. And the crawler.. Was loads of fun
That was interesting about the paint jobs. I was born in '65, and had a lot of these as a little kid, but I definately remember that mine must have been the 2nd type, because the color paint came off of them. (And of course, the wires that made them posable would break, leaving a bunch of paraplegiac astronauts!)
I had quite a bit of this stuff.2 captain lazars ,a space capsule matt mason sat atop of and you moved switches around on the bottom turned it on and it would move around. I had Scorpio you flicked a switch on his back and a gold colored bubble with a strange alien mask atop of it would light up. yeah these were great and very popular, your collection rocks btw.I don't have a single piece left alas.
The red guy is Sergeant Storm I'm afraid. Thanks for looking though.
Very nice!! But you need to get all your orange girders on the space station facing the same way. Just my opinion. :)
We sold my husband's childhood collection of Major Matt toys on eBay several years ago - we were very happily surprised at what we got for them!
All I had was the white one, his jetpack, and later a thin plastic delta wing glider he could fly in.

Ok i did have the pump action if you didnt show it I wouldnt remember
Never had the toy but I do recall the crawler in the commercials.
I think that the other character's name is Jeff Long. You called both the yellow-suit guy and the blue-suit guy Doug Davis. These were great toys, but the prices limited what my Dad could get me.
outstanding!!
Hi Modmart. my collection looks about the same size as yours does and I was a huge fan as a child of the Apollo missions and all of that stuff anyways it's cool to run into like-minded folks every now and again.BTW-I love your Beatles accent lol

A pleasure to share this stuff mate. Glad you appreciate it. Wish I did have a Beatles accent mine is more like a member of The Who or The Rolling Stones being a Londoner. But I love The Fabs though!
My favorite toy is a child next to G.I. Joe. Still on my original Sergeant storm and space crawler.
Yes we had pretty much all the same stuff US guys had back then. Major Matt, GI JOE under the name ACTION MAN, JOHNNY 7 OMA and that type of stuff. Same TV shows too so many middle -aged guys here will have the same memories of childhood as an average American too. Thanks for checking this stuff out.
Great collection, and great condition! The other reason for the addition of Jeff Long in blue, the "Negro" figure, is that there was a "Negro" astronaut in line to be on an upcoming Apollo mission, but was killed with a fellow pilot in an accident. I think his name was Lawrence, Major Lawrence. At least that was the lore of Jeff Long in Los Angeles where I was living in those days.
Back when Mattel actually made toys and good ones at that.
I still got mine!

I had just about everything. The bubble, the crawler, capt. Lazer. The crawler cost $7.50 as I recall. My neighboer had the station also. I gave my stuff to another little kid across the street who trashed everything. I went to college, got a couple of degrees, engineering, math, was in the US Air Force. These were cool things to play with. Better for the mind and imagination than watching the smurffs or chatting idlly on facebook or twitter as kids do today.
Very nice set Martin. The big Captain Lazer bloke and even Callisto simply don't look like they fit into the style of the rest of the toys.
There was a second alien. It came out after the little green fellow. It was very tall, bendy (its arms and legs had no joints), was pink and a sort of purple body armor that exposed its stomach. It had antennae and the head popped of to reveal a hard yellow plastic dome underneath. This was removed to insert a lightbulb. When reassembled and turned on it caused the mouth and eyes to glow yellow. Does this sound at all familiar? If so, what was the name of this creature?

They had a moon buggy to and a mobile scan cannon
use to have him & the station, space crawler.
great memories...I had the alien too...but can't remember his name...
Hey someone else who collects Major Matt. Nice collection Modmart.... I got about five figures, two Major Matts and I think three of the Sarge Storm. I'm in the process of restoring mine as they all had major (excuse the pun) paint loss and damage to internal wires...... They should have included a Matt Mason in Toy story but what the hey.... I have a major matt mason space station with space men I had all my life, and I want to know who can I talk to, to sell it for a large amount of money, it is used, my father bought me this back in 1969 I played with it when I was a child, I am 55 years old now, so what can I do, and how much will I get for it?
