That's the best look that I have ever seen, with so much matting. I take it that he comes in looking the same way usually. Most of the KZread groomers, won't let a dog back in again unless they set up a 6 week appt. So thanks for letting him come back. Why do Shih tzus Matt so quickly?

Thanks so much that’s a huge compliment 🤗 Remy is ALWAYS welcome to come back, we love him and he’s such an angel. He does in fact look more or less like this every time he comes in and the reason why he does actually is the answer to your question, he’s not the easiest to brush out at home. This is why Shih Tzus tend to matt so quickly, if you want them long, they’re EXTREMELY high maintenance, and if they don’t accept brushing out often at home, welp there goes that lol from that point it’s up to the groomer to either try and de-mat or shave

Awesome job! Thank you for this video with Remy. I have a lot more confidence now. I have a Lhasa whose coat looks like Remy's coat until he's brushed out. Then he rolls atound on the carpet and gets messed up sgain😅. My dog does have some matting on the inner thigh area. Thank you for sharing the blades you used because I was wondering if I could do that. Ill start with the 5f on the body, 10 blade in the sanitary area and inner thighs along with cleaning out his eyes, and 7 blade wherever else if needed. Ill do the same with the legs as you did with a snap on comb. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you Ruby! 😊 for this video.

@Grooming By Rudy I've been a subscriber for about 1 yr or 2 but I never had the confidence to groom my dog like I do now. You're the best. I'm reviewing again the video you did on how to hold a dog to groom. I have not seen a groomer do this on a video. You're a confidence builder! ✨️

Thanks so much ! The quick answer to your question is, experience. The best way to explain it here is to use your fingers and fingertips to try and figure out what is what to the best of your ability, having discretion is key here. Meaning if you aren’t sure, don’t do it. Take the extra time to put the clippers or scissors down to figure out where hair ends and the ear begins, once you find it you can then at least start to figure out how to SLOWLY approach the area (working slow in general is also key in these situations)

Remy looks like he could be a cousin to my girl, Squirt. I long for the day Squirt sits so still for grooming. She is getting there...slowly.

@@GroomingByRudy I just watched this video again and found your comment. You were right! Squirt has come along to the point where I can bathe, dry and tidy up her grooming. This week, Squirt let ME trim her face with clippers and blending shears. We did paw pads and neatened up her Grinch feet. She's been amazing on the home grooming table. Maybe one day, I will be able to do a full groom on her, but I'm in no rush for that. Squirt is in good hands with my local groomer and I'm happy to fill the assistant role.

What are you do if they won’t tolerate grabbing them under the chin

Pitiful that people let their dogs get that bad to begin with. 😕 😡
