This is a sad day for surfing!

repetitive backside getting scored too high. Is a semi-final packed with goofy footers who nobody thought won (with the exception of Medina; even though Kelly won his heat too) proof enough?

Just re watched johns 6. if wilkos last wave wave an 8 johns 6 should been a well up into the excellent range

Wilkos 7.83 power, flow, progression ride was fukkn WAAAYYY better than John's 9.5 dinky nose pick, non-tube, rail dig ride

@@jonathanhalloran8807 huge carve, rio, blowtail reverse, barrel, air rev, variety progression speed power = 9.5. wilko had a nice blowtail better than johns but nothing else.

All I did was look at the heat waves before watching this and knew JJF would be robbed by standard backside hacks.

I keep watching the WSL replays and frankly the judging is a chaotic mess. There appears to be a lot of bias going on to the local favorites.John was the better surfer in that heat and you all know it

Wilko shouldn't have won John John killed it

Im a sup surfer from South Africa and respect these short board riders. JJFLorence clearly should have won this heat because he had more style charisma and his overall routines were better. Wilko was repetitive and boring on top of his bad wave selection.

How did Italo get a 10 for a backside "crapflail air" with a shit landing? How did Gabe get a 9 for uncommitted leg turns? It's not about hometown judging. There's more international politics involved. Regardless, everyone knows its Kelly who gets robbed the most.

Jonathan Halloran Jordy got robbed in the earlier rounds to Kelly, what goes around comes around I guess but the judging system has to change

Nah, Jordy has no political clout being the only person from South Africa plus he's a bit of a douche so the judges don't like that. The point still remains - I reckon Kelly has been robbed the most times, at least towards the end of his career. However, early in his career he was gifted a few. So yeah, maybe you're right

I'm officially boycotting wasting my time watching wsl now, I'm over it, I thought they would have fixed their backside bias crap after last years debacle. Obviously not. Mick won, Kelly Won, JJF won. Jeez, at least the final had 2 golden boy backside surfers so the judges pathetic bias was neutralized. Other issue is the tolerance of sh!te style, thank funk that Wright won over the poo squatting Wilko. These guys are the top comp surfers on the planet, there is simply just no room for any hint of poo squat anywhere in the comp. All competitors need to meet a basic level of "STYLE" please, for the love of god.

acually I learned to surf in TEXAS .. in Galveston... like SLATER learned on the east coast... when we get any RIPPLE it's epic to us ... so seeing some guy do SKATEBOARDING shit on a wave don't mean anything to us... I respect you and your vision of what surfing should be but when I say SALTY.. I mean that with no disrespect. WILKO won that heat... he power surfed and did what the judges wanted to see. JJF is a masterful surfer. I meant no disrespect to him. and he is a BOY/ KID on the tour. He will win a world title there is no doubt in us (DUMBASS SURFERS THAT WATCH THE WORLD TOUR) MINDS you need to relax and get a comfort zone about it.

I know this is 8 months late, but just rewatch all of the Margaret river heats that john is in. No one compares to his speed or power. John can do it all.
