I remember watching this film sometime in the 1970s. Here we are 50 years later (Oct 2021) and this song and movie are still outstanding. What a song and voice from Matt. Where did all those wonderful romantic films and music go? Now we have garbled rap and awful woke singers. I feel so sorry for the youth of today with the garbage churned out. Class, elegance and manners will return, as history shows.

@@sjjcws I love Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in An Affair to Remember. Another great film I watched in the 1970s. I saw the original version, ‘Love Affair’ a few years ago and that too, surprisingly, was equally as good, with Irene Dunne and the wonderful Charles Boyer. Let’s just pray that in years to come the film industry reverts back to such films!

No woman could be that beautiful....I decided when I first saw this film at age 14. Nothing I've seen since has changed my mind. The movie was made for dreamers like all those who comment here. We should cling to our ideals and dreams - fantasy can be our reality and become so satisfying, an antidote to so much pain, greed, vanity and insanity around us.

I disagree. The world is a beautiful place. And people are for the most part good and beautiful. It is said that our outer world reflects our inner world. So if you see greed and vanity in your outer world you need to re-examine your inner world, because it reflects that which lies within. Or as Gandhi said, "Be the change you want to see in the world".

Matt Monro (Terence Parsons) was born in England on December 1st, 1930. Frank Sinatra once said Matt was his favorite singer. Matt also sang the main theme "From Russia With Love". He died February 7th, 1985 from inoperable liver cancer at the age of only 54. Underrated singer.

I loved Matt Munro think he won a TV competition or talent show, a former bus driver I believe but as you say, underrated..might have been because drink got in the way..his daughter is still around, think she spoke about him in an interview a few years ago.... His film song, Born Free, makes me cry as did this lovely romantic film

The song still enchants after all these years -- William Holden and Jennifer Jones still fondly remembered. Not too many know about Han Suyin, on whose autobiographical novel the movie was based. Han was born of a Chinese father and Belgian mother in the last century when the world was going to pieces, with World War I raging and China already in the depths of her century of agony. To me Han's greatest accomplishment was her autobiography/history trilogy: The Crippled Tree / A Mortal Flower / Birdless Summer. A must read for anyone, Chinese or not, who wants to know about China's recent past, and the part the West played in that past. It sheds light on why China has taken the course it has taken -- and why it will likely continue in the same essential direction, of national revival under a collectivist government. Han's trilogy covers events from 1885 to 1948, but nonetheless will be a timely read today.
