As usual Matt magnificence. He is singing his heart out and the audience (except the woman in red bouncing her head to the rhythm) seem to be waiting for a bus?! What a shame, but in true showmanship Matt gives it his all, even if they are not appreciative. Keep these video gems coming!!!

VDV was 1972.

I don't recall watching Van der Valk (though I must have) but I do remember the theme. Some years ago I was surprised to find there were lyrics and they were recorded by my all-time favourite singer, Matt Monro. I really get off on the tune, though the lyrics are somewhat banal.

As I remember this song was written "backwards", the lyrics were set to the music, rather than the other way round. For many any song written in such a manner does not really "work". Another example being "Moonlight Serenade".

The worst lyrics ever put to music. I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time. Matt Monroe singing On Days like this is pure quality. This is ghastly. I recall it was played around the time of Princess Anne's wedding to Mark Phillips on the TV coverage. Nearly 50 years ago, still awfull.

Totally agree with you, he must have been desperate for a hit when he agreed to sing this garbage. Inane lyrics thrown together to fit an instrumental theme tune. I've always loved Matt, but this song was a black mark on his legacy.
