    Since most of my group are new to D&D comparatively, it usually falls on me, the DM, and sometimes our currently Ranger (formerly played Barbarian, rip Bhakyl) but typically only for monsters in his case since like me he loves to read up on D&D monsters. Helps keep our gameplay going and teaching our greener party members the game, although we are all prone to making mistakes now and again, we can't memorize the entire book by heart and then interpret those rules in a given situation after all haha

    EDIT (22.05.2022) Y'ALL, Hold Monster works on any creature. The spell's description says "Choose a creature that you can see within range." so it would work on the Goliath. ALSO, anything not explicitly stated in the text, isn't relevant. I know that Light Domain clerics can cast fireball, however Omerek isn't stated to be a light domain cleric. @@davidp5823 Let's see what I can find with a thorough search: Panel 1: 1. Demilich is just a head, art is wrong Panel 2: 2. Reactions have to be triggered on other creatures' turns, unless otherwise stated 3. Attacks of opportunity happen when leaving opponent's threatening spaces, not when entering them. 4. Silvered axe does no damage to a pit fiend | EDIT: Pit fiends take damage from silvered non-magical weapons, so this point is moot EDIT 26. Dodge is not a reaction Panel 3: 5. Rolling initiative now makes no sense as combat has already started 6. Pit fiend can not cast hold monster and attack since they both take up an action Panel 4: 7. Gruumsh One-Eye is not God of the Forge 8. Fireball is not a 2nd level spell 9. Fireball is not a Cleric spell 10. Pit fiends have immunity to fire damage, meaning the pit fiend would not be destroyed Panel 5: 11. Benign Transposition switches 2 creatures' spaces, it does not make someone go invisible 12. Drinking a potion and casting Benign Transposition both take up an action EDIT 27. Invisibility is a touch spell, Calliope is not touching Uma Panel 6: 13. Howl attack is not a single creature attack, but an area of effect action 14. Demiliches have truesight, so it would not have missed Una 15. Legendary actions can only be taken after other creature's turns 16. Vile Curse is a wisdom save, not a charisma save 17. A Demlich can only use one legendary action at a time 18. A Demilich can only fly 15 ft with a legendary action (given that it has the base 30 ft fly speed) EDIT 28. A Demilich only has 3 legendary actions per round of combat, Vile Curse costs 3 actions, so it would not be able to use Vile Curse and flight legendary actions during the same round. Panel 7: 19. Jump is not a skill, but part of movement 20. Nat 30 is impossible 21. Sneak attack is not possible 22. Turn Undead is not a rogue ability 23. Turn Undead is an action 24. Turn Undead is not powerful enough to destroy a Demilich 25. Demiliches are immune to effects that turn undead This is all I've found, there might be more I've missed.

    I jotted down mistakes I saw, and while I missed a lot that Matt got, I feel proud to have spotted these ones that he didn't: - Pit fiend would not be able to do its multiattack after using Hold Monster on the same turn - Benign Transposition doesn't do that (it's used to make creatures swap places) - Invisibility is a Touch spell, so either the picture is inaccurate or the spell couldn't have been used since the caster and affected character weren't making contact - Demiliches (and regular liches) have Truesight, so the Invisibility wouldn't have mattered regardless of what it used - Only one legendary action can be used at a time I missed like half the ones Matt got, so I'm definitely not one-upping him. And then a couple others I found after the fact and am just noting because I find it interesting: Assuming the demilich is meant to be interpreted as having a demilich's stat block and it's just the drawing that is incorrect, the Flight legendary action only lets them fly up to half its flying speed, meaning it could only go 15ft at most; it also wouldn't be able to fly at all because Vile Curse uses 3 legendary actions, so it would be all out until the start of its next turn. (If the demilich IS meant to be interpreted as a lich, this entire part is wrong because none of the things the "demilich" did are available to liches.) I'm definitely not claiming to have already known this much since I absolutely looked it up after, but I figured it was worth noting.

  • @BoomGoesMaximus

    @BoomGoesMaximus

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Thenonymous1 It doesn't always work that way, RAW. Some creatures specifically say "...that aren't silvered" at the end of weapon resistances and immunities; if it doesn't say that, silvered weapons don't bypass it. That said, Pit Fiends ARE one of the creatures where it specifically says "...that aren't silvered", so silvering WOULD bypass its resistance (it's only resistant, not immune). So you're right on that part! Makes sense now that they said they hadn't written that down for the question's answers.

The original comment from Matt was about immunity to non-magical damage (which is more of a specialized niche than “standard devil” resistances/immunities). So, two minor errors: pit fiends aren’t *immune* to ANY weapon (bludgeoning, piercing, slashing) damage; and even though they do resist mundane/non-magic weapon damage, they do NOT resist Silvered weapon damage. The person who set up the problem did get that bit correct. Intentionally? That I couldn’t tell you.

Benign Transposition does not allow the Wizard to cast a spell, it's based on switching positions. 3. Benign Transposition is an Action, which makes Calliope as having taken 3 actions (In addition to Invisibility and Potion drinking) 4. The Demilich used two legendary actions in one turn (Vile Curse, and Movement) 5. The Demilich's movement is half its movespeed, which is 15 feet , not 30 (I missed this one until I checked afterwards) 6. Una's invisibility has disappeared before she makes her attack. Matt actually is wrong about the silver weapon thing, pit fiends have resistance to non magical weapons that are not silvered (as with most devils) so in this case it would do normal damage. But even if it was not a silvered weapon it would still do half damage as resistance is not immunity. :)

    Honestly I house rule silver weapons effective against a lot less stuff: Werepeople? Sure, Devils? Depend on CR, say what you want but a Pit Fiend should be able to tank a silvered mace better than a Nupperibo or a Barbed Devil and not every magical weapon works the same in my games. It's insane to me that Zariel or Orcus are affected evenly by a Holy Avenger and a +1 dagger. It's also a metter of balance for me. I'd much prefer my players to have a harder time against a devil or a demon the first time with shitty magic items and later cutting into multiples thanks to better abilities and gear. Sure you can simply up the monster hp but I think it's more satisfying for a player to go from : "your attacks bounce off the fiend skin, dealing pitful damage, it seems the power of the +1 greatsword isn't enough to properly handle this fight" to : " the Soul Calibur cuts deep in the flesh of the accursed, its radiant power unstoppable even in front of a demigod" but that's just me.

    So I missed some, like the demilich being depicted wrong (marked those I didn't get until after the fact with a *, and iffy ones with a ~), but there were more than Matt found: 1. *Demilich is not full body 2. Dodge is not a reaction 3. Devil does not get an attack of opportunity 4. ~If using the dodge ACTION, would not be able to also attack --- Pit fiends are not resistant to silver weapons, Matt called this wrong. 5. Pit Fiend should already have rolled initiative 6. If the Pit fiend casts a spell, it cannot also attack 7. Gruumsh is not God of the Forge 8. Fireball is not second level 9. Fireball is not a cleric spell (but light clerics COULD have it, and there's no TECHNICAL reason why Omerek couldn't be a light cleric, though it would be odd worshiping Gruumsh OR the God of the Forge if you were) 10. Would almost certainly not destroy the pit fiend, who has around 300 health, and is immune to fire (there are ways to get around the immunity, but even so, fireball does like 48 damage max). 11. Benign Transposition does not allow casting of a spell, it switches people's positions 12. If you DID cast Invisibility, or use Benign Transposition, you would not be able to also drink a potion --- Why is she drinking a potion? She hasn't taken damage? 13. Howl is not affected by Invisibility 14. *Vile Curse is not a Charisma Save 15. *Vile Curse needs to target "one creature it can see", Una is Invisible 16. Demilich can't use Legendary Actions during ITS turn 17. Demilich can't use two Legendary Actions at once 18. *Vile Curse actually costs 3 actions, so it would also have already used all it's points 19. ~There's not much "final" about the legendary action. Legendary creatures actually get 3, so either it has one left (in the case that it used "a" legendary action on Vile Curse), or it already used it's last one, so "final" doesn't seem right. 20. Jump is not a Skill 21. Nat 30 isn't possible 22. There's no way Una can jump that high (height is based off of Strength Modifier, and you would need an excessively high one (maybe even impossibly high, without the Jump spell) to clear 30 feet) 23. Sneak Attack maybe shouldn't trigger. Though this requires some explanation a. Una should still be Invisible, so she has Advantage from Invisibility, which WOULD grant Sneak Attack. b. BUT, since she failed her save vs. Vile Curse, she has Disadvantage on all attacks, canceling the Advantage from Invisibility, and negating Sneak Attack c. BUT, since Vile Curse couldn't target her, maybe she's unaffected, and would have Advantage from Sneak Attack? d. BUT, if the Howl worked (since it shouldn't miss because of Invisibility), Una should be either at 0 hit points, or Frightened, which would grant Disadvantage, and so cancel Sneak Attack anyway (Though this would add another mistake: Frightened creatures cannot approach the source of their fear, so Una can't get close to attack it in the first place) 24. Turn Undead isn't a bonus action 25. Turn Undead is a Cleric feature, not a rogue feature 26. At low levels of Cleric (0 is low), and for high levels of enemy, Turn Undead only Turns, it does not Destroy. This may count as 2 (Una doesn't have the "Destroy Undead" Feature, AND the Demilich is too high level for it) Anything I missed?

    I have maybe a few o7 Firstly, just wanted to let you know, Demiliches have truesight, which allows it to see invisible creatures, so Una would have been an eligible target for Vile Curse if she was in range, and in addition (depending on how you interpret truesight vs invisibility), Una would not have had advantage for sneak attack from being invisible, but you already got the point about Vile Curse giving her disadvantage anyway! -Demiliches have Turn Immunity, so would be immune to turn undead anyway regardless of level. -Demiliches flight LA allow it to move up to half its fly speed, so it would only be able to fly 15 ft. (30/2) instead of the 30 ft. it flew. Some iffy ones now which are really pedantic ^^' -We don't know the fighter level, but the others have benign transposition and fireball, so likely 5th+, the fighter could have extra attack, and they made the point to name every attack the pit fiend made but only mention the fighter making one attack. -In the art, the cleric is shown being prone on the ground after getting hit by the pit fiend, but none of the fiend's attack knock a target prone -The cleric is depicted as holding a book, which you could argue is not a holy symbol (amulet, emblem or reliquary), so would not fulfil the material component of fireball. -In the same vein, the wizard is shown casting invisibility at range without the material component That's all the other ones I got :)
