Good video. I'm 72 I've surfed in south Africa through the the 60s 70s 80s 90 ofs 2000s then I had a heart attack at 64 and the coma and that's what fucked it up . In the uk . Ifyou have a coma You completely forget how to surf and it's like a child having to learn all over again. I I started from scratch and do a dozen popups atleast every day. Still haven't stood up fully yet but our surf in Torquay Devon is shit so it's not helping .want to buy a car now just to reach the waves. I make boards at home and that keeps me satisfied just paddling them on the Torbay flat lake.. keep up the great videos you a great surfer thanks....

I've been following your Insta feed for about a year now and don't know what the heck took me so long to check out your youtube channel tutorials, but now I'm in deep! Thanks for allowing others to share your knowledge. This is very impressive work here, sure the bells and whistles take a bit more time but that was a near complete shape in just over 16 minutes. This is my favourite shaping video on Utube. I've played guitar for years and I learn more with this same approach, cutting out the crap, from guitar tutorials where you have to think for yourself . Whether its music tutorials or surfboard shaping tutorials, this video is a master piece in instruction. For all you home shapers out there, I truly believe, a dozen boards under your belt is when you truly start to understand how boards really work and go and the real learning process begins but that's just my opinion maybe some guys pick it up sooner. Thank you so much for this great video its helped me so much.

Kazuma Kinoshita Surfboards My biggest problem with my homemade boards is reducing weight. I'm so desperate to get the weight down I'm making my next board with 4 onz cloth only, cutting out the carbon strips and patches on a 62 performance board. The UK can get pretty cold some winters and desperate to glass my board in full winter and not wait for spring, my polyester resin ran very thick and slow due to the low temperature. I never gave the room temp enough time to warm up. As a result had a lot of sanding to do. Also had used 6onz because that was all there was at the supplier . Do you guys ever thin your polyester laminate / hot coat resins out with styrene for performance boards? (I know you finely tune your laminating and hot sanding coats) OR do you just use the special performance 4 onz cloth to get the weight down very light which obviously gives a weaker board?

I'm only 70 kgs at 5' 5 1/2" and pretty light on my feet so doing without patches to get rid of some weight doesn't bother me. So my next 6'2" board is going to be an experiment to get the lighest board ive yet made and I don't know if I will achieve that ?. any advice on lightening surfboards guys ???

Hello, if this fella is a master of masters so which are the masters that you are talking? Also I think that you assumes that get rid of the crust of and follow the lines of a blank, then round the rails is shaping...Lots of difficult shapes to shape, plenty of custom dimensions and specs. When you buy bulks of blanks many have some kind of problems that you need to solve before actually shaping (the blanks are not perfect; even less perfect when have custom rockers and stringers); we call that "pre shaping". Then, as mentioned, multi stringered blanks; step rails; S decks; flat decks; concave Vs, custom rockers; chambered balsa; etc. I do not know you buts seems that you are only in the know of one style of boards and shaping. Looks further mate.

The minimum points would be 12" from the nose and tail, center and tip of tail. What happens between those points becomes predictable as the "correct" curve naturally falls into place.

I can shape some killer shortboards but 2 hours MINIMUM to make it right. If you see this comment, tell Ted Kearns "The ReverAND" said WAHZAHP. Glassed some of his at Rascoe's when he was still in KDH. I from Ewa Beach but was glassing East Coast from 2003 to 2015. Seen some of his shapes at Monstah when I was home for 3.5 yrs but back on mainland now to help my Mom. Aloha

Hi Matt. Why do you start by cross cutting the nose and tail on the bottom of the board?

The cross cut is the most efficient way to increase the rocker curve at specific points. I do the same when I flip it over to get my thickness flow right

That was actually like 16-17 min. Your even faster than that if you wanted to be. You were taking your time, 😆. Rad work bruddah.

Amazing skills, but no soul. I think part of shaping a board is putting your heart, soul and feel into the board. Basically shaping a pop out. I guess if it works who cares? Jst doesn’t feel right.

Shaping videos are unbelievably boring so I am showing a complete shape without the boring fluff. It is much easier to remember the steps this way and from here you can add all the detail, soul and love that you want. If anything it shows that skill with hand tools makes pop outs/cnc unnecessary.
