"F**K! This riffs are hard to play slow!" Yes Matt, and they are also hard to play fast. :D
Matt Heafy is pretty underrated in terms of his technique, the guy is so damn clean
"I dont know music theory... " its k matt, im sure of most of us musicians dont too XD
"It's hard not to plays fast."--Toki, or maybe it was Skisgar.
i have never heard of this guy till now and i can tell he can really play ! best of luck to him and his see yeah g
Omg, that day he made that riff at 4:32 in Denmark, I met him and the rest of Trivium after the show! They were so awesome, so glad I met them. Jakob
that shogun run at the beginning is a fist pumper for sure, especially after the solo
Fastest triplet I've ever heard. So clean
The more i see his videos the more i come to realize. He doesn't cut out the mistakes because HE DOESN'T WANT TO. I think what he's doing is that if he shows his mistakes then he knows someone will think that very talented guitarists like himself, aren't perfect! A great motivational boost for the young guitarist learning!!
It's nice to know professionals still mess up. Makes them feel more down to our level.
The ingenuity that these guys produce is mind-destroying.
All this is what helped me not only get better at playing seven strings (with inspiration) he also helped me get better a full chords and going out side the box to write a metal song.. thanks Matt Heafy for being one of my mentors =D
Matt Heafy is the reason i started playing guitar... ive idolized him ever since i was 7
I love how matt gets things right too, kinda makes you think not everyones perfect and we're all humans loved Shogun, amazing album
it amazes me that Matt and Corey can play these riffs without any unease and that they are totally chilled out while playing insane triplets and tremolo picks FUCKKKKK TRIVIUM IS THE BEST!
@todor15 they use such high output pickups that they can register the vibrations from the tremolo springs and you can hear it on a recording, so the tissues and tape make it so that the springs don't vibrate.
Into the Mouth of Hell has such a badass riff :D
@thevirum i believe it i played about 5 hours a day when i started but then i enjoy it very much, he has really clean picking.
that first riff sounds soooo damn gooood! this guy is a genius and apparently plays mostly by ear. legend!
My god, the first riff ♥ :) can't get it out of my head.
@pjuckazz lol no, i just put them there now :) people keep asking so i thought id put them where everyone can get them. cheers dude \m/
@zakkp22 i think they use like mini marshall or blackstarr tube heads and 1x12 cabs boosted with a maxon overdrive or a ibanez tubescreamer for the sound on most lesson videos that and the razorback 7 string
@pjuckazz I put some links in the description ;) They're both tabbed by myself.
@dannyboy472 NO standard 7 string tuning the 7th string is a extra low B
@RikkudoSennin As Dano said Chromatic is essentially any note listen to "Sweating bullets" by Megedeth the first part of the solo (descending section) is chromatic. Basicall playing the notes one after another. Using notes from the key, and passing notes (Notes not in key). The whole point of it is to use them as passing notes you wouldnt stay on a C if your in the key of B because it would sound out of place and a bad clash would occur, though it can work, but i wont confuse you more XD
@RikkudoSennin No, it's pretty much just B minor with an open pedal tone. So it'd be 0-2-3-0-3-5-0-5-7-0-7-8-7-5-3-0
I like how hes not afraid to show fuck ups- cause every other guitarist cuts that stuff out but Matt is a fucking bad-ass
@TheDuckASickSecret Yeah you are right, the only difference is on a 6 string B standard has a F# (BEADF#B)
@zuzlikq they are using the b monitor. ricky ludiper invented it in 1982. it slowly graduated into d format but is now beadgbe poindexter.
oh god the freaking riff to shoguns insane i wouldnt even try learning that song shattering the skys above is hard enough for me
fav song off of shogun and fav song in all
@dannyboy472 Standard 7 string tuning (BEADGBe). So if you have a 6 string you'll need to tune down to drop B but you'll lose the high E :/
@RikkudoSennin Chromatic means there's no key to it (as I'm sure you know) and this is in B Minor which is B, C#, D, E, F#, G, A, B.
@danobrien2468 I think that they are different bands, but great bands too, i dont know why people compare both bands...
awesome riffs :d
@dannyboy472 B standard, which is one whole step lower
hey do any of you know why he put the tissues in the back by the springs? thx
@danobrien2468 I think if you tune your guitar to BEAGBe then you can get something out of that. i saw one guy one here use that tuning
@SRcRasher Yeah, I'm with you on that. I can't see why people are comparing them when Sylosis are much more death-metal-ish than Trivium and clearly want to sound different. Love em both though ;P
@lefthandovRA its the irish in him that drives him to drink heavily and the japanese in him that causes him to drive. hes a ticking time bomb.
does anybody have tabs for the melody part of the chorus cos ive just spent an hour tryin to work out what hes playin and im goin insane....
The riff at 3.36 is really cool.
@danobrien2468 Fair enough man, i'd definately recommend downloading their 'Conclusion of an Age' album and check out the new stuff thats coming out like 'Empyreal' and 'A serpent's tongue' (all which can be found on youtube!)
i think he is one of the best guitarists in the world!!!
So the rhythm when the solo is going on is chromatic, yeah? Some one please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd really like to know as I'm beginning to study music.
@SatyrX09 yes
yes. its also called standard seven string tuning
love the solo riff from shogun!
In an interview Matt sayed that they might be making a 3 part video. Im not sure if they are making it now or if it will ever be made at all, but it would be sick. \m/

Unfortunately It Never Was 😢
i can really hear that park bench coming through there. very nice...and...er...planky...wonderful
does anybody know what pickups he's got in this guitar?
how does tissue and tape help to reduce the noise?
man my face just melted when i saw him do that!
i know what you mean my instructor who went to school for music (lucky to get a teacher like that) showed me some books to checkout when I decided to get serious about music and it helped out even my metal playing more scales more chord rhythms more diversity
@TheTylerGeissler hes not using active pick ups in this video.
@stixflix06 Your comment made me check them out and they're really good :) But not as good as Trivium in my opinion :)
@FinalFight323 I lvoe that white dean ml also its so like basic but so epic at the same time
On some guitar solos but all the rhythm and most guitar tracks were all passive. Matt's solo in Prometheus he's using EMGs you can hear it.
i love that tone
@danobrien2468 i think its standart b
I like how he admits how the first song has a normal chord progression which really happens all the time in music.
@MyFallenIdolMusic That's not the tuning, that's the key of the song. The tuning is 7 string BEADGBe (Low to high) :)
Nice nice. I practice a good 5 hours a day and I've been playing for about 3 years, I love playing guitar :]
One of d best song of this album
@Machinehead18 They said in Guitar World that they're going back to drop-D. Probably because Gibson won't give Matt a 7 string Les Paul.
similar but no the same. In Kirisute Gomen are two chords E minor and B major. In Shogun are 4: B minor, G major, D major, F-sharp major.
OMG i love the first riff he does its so epic
@stixflix06 It's refreshing to listen to a new band that is genuinely talented... and British :D. Definitely going to be buying their stuff soon
what does he mean when he says "in the key of b minor"?
3:20 = the most awesome metalcore riff you'll ever hear
@TriviumShogun2008 Ummm, when you get used to playing something at a certain pace, to change the speed makes it harder to play. If you go into a high school music class and get the students to play something fast, when you tell them to play it slow, they will probably get it wrong.
@SpawnCall i noticed it in of the dvd trailers on utube
He's amazing
@motleycrueman332 its gojira im pretty sure, or something similar to that, pretty heavy band too! :)
@FSADM probably his custom ones
@abhinav1102 He is? how do you know that?
he is playin on a peavey vypyr....can anyone here figure out his settings??
question to everyone who sees this comment.. What is your favourite trivium album? mine is Shogun
@kobz48 Yes because even Matt Heafy and Trivium are still human, which is hard to believe
shogun obra de arte
@TheDuckASickSecret Yes, it is
@deadlol1 the acoustic intro right?
@PinkyKings Didn't know... sorry!!!!
@TheRodAttak yeah sure, i'll send them in a Messege
is he playing whit down picking the riffs and things like that??
Hey, can you put up the making of?
do you have the tabs man?? keep in rock \m/_
yh when your recording in the studio, you'll be playing the same riff at the same tempo for a long time. and after a while, you start to play from muscle memory. so when you slow it down, you find it trickier to play. well thats what i find anyway :p
i did say album but anyway they're both of shogun so yeah=D
Do they use active pick ups?
I love that Matt messes up often enough...it's shows that normal guitarists have a chance too!
i can tab it out in a message and send it to you if you like?
the chorus from shogun is the same melody from kirisute Gomen
What tune are they using in Shogun album ?
@shalevtm02 what?
i love matt
Man he's awesome!=D
I love how their logo is on the 12th fret on the guitar :D
do you mean the whole Shogun DVD? If i get the time then i probably will.
1:52 XDXDXDXD My God he's so funny! I Love Trivium, Matt and Corey are two of my favourite guitarists, they're really great.
