I hope if Matt is discouraged he can look at Colin’s set. It wasn’t them. It was definitely the crowd.

For those that aren’t aware, the WHCD is one of the toughest gigs for a comedian. It’s full of people who are afraid of being caught on camera laughing at a joke.

The crowd was experiencing a TDS flashbacks of Trumpm Its called PTTDS, and it'll be going around like a virus in August. Matts is one of the best comedic impressionists and he has a large array of voices.

It was like the comatose audience actually came to life then. Other than the offended reaction they had to the joke about the guy who lit himself on fire, the crowd was lifeless till that point.

Geez! That crowd was more uptight than a room full of nuns at Bible seminar.

You killed it, Matt! Joke of an audience. They didn’t deserve that performance.

It's literally a room full of politicians afraid to laugh at jokes. The laughs were good for white house correspondence. Funny how they laughed hardest when he became Mitch, cause noone likes that guy and it's okay to admit it hahaha

We were pleasantly surprised to see Matt Friend at the WHCD. We didn't know he was on the program. His joke about Noem's puppy "Cricket" was equally unexpected. You're great Matt. Tell the truth and shame the devil.

Absolutely golden and WAY TOO SHORT! But leaves us wanting more. Great performance.

I think people are just so stressed out especially in that crowd that just hearing that specific voice set them on edge. That being said we have to laugh. Now more than ever. Great job as always Matt. Especially MITCH. 😂😂😂

You got to remember those certain types of microphones are not really designed to pick up all kinds of periphery noise. They're mainly supposed to be just for the speaker's voice and when you hear all of the laughter over the microphone he's holding, that means it was pretty damn loud

But I think someone else mentioned in here, that when you're out there in the middle of the audience you get a lot of people who are kind of not wanting to obviously show themselves laughing at such humor. They're supposed to be journalists and stuff and they're not really supposed to be showing their emotion on things like that. That's why it's best when they're up at the podium, because you're not really getting too many crowd shots. They do give some, but

Yeah, the crowd was a little slow with Jost, as well. I think it was the logistics that made it difficult to hear, see Matt. I wish he was at the podium. Matt is a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ performer and gorgeous man to look at as a bonus. It won't be long before he's in the top five of all time impressionists. Bravo, well done!!

For those noting how quiet and unresponsive the audience was, know that this is always the case at the WHCD. In 2006, they were absolutely silent during Stephen Colbert’s opening, which was the best ever. They are not good at laughing at themselves.

I actually got secondhand anxiety because Matt was killing it but it's like they forget how to laugh. What an honor for him to perform there and also be invited to the White House not long ago - he seems to be popping up everywhere for the past year. What a meteoric rise and well-deserved. He needs to be on SNL! My fav Trump impressionist by far and his Obama, Bernie, and Mitch are spot-on too. 🙌

The Mitch McConnell impersonation is so accurate, I cannot distinguish it from the real thing.

Great job as always. I would’ve loved if he threw more of his impressions in that he does. I would’ve liked to hear some Chuck Grassley with “Senator Leahey what’s a correspondence dinner senator leahey” or some Ron Desantis with “at this correspondence dinner is where woke goes to die” or even Hakeem Jeffries with “democracy over demagogues maturity over mar-a-lago” or even Tucker Carlson with that crazy insane laugh he does.

The putzes in the audience, no big surprise, couldn't give Matt his due. He was extremely funny and dead on with his impressions as usual. It reminds me of academic meetings. Ego-driven folks who have no sense of humor or appreciation of actual talent, but very full of themselves. I wouldn't call it a tough room. I'd call it a dumb room. Matt still brought his "A" game.

Then, the ominous Obama/Trump flashback which is actually kind of depressing. Then, you with no introduction! You were put in a tough spot plus down on the floor. However, your material was brilliant as always.

Matt you were on fire! You were just making some Russian bought oligarchs nervous! Keep it up!
