I’m definitely addicted to my phone. I mostly look up religious topics and everything about our faith, but it’s still distracting from life. I’ve wasted hours of my days…

Pray the rosary atleast once a day I promise you mother Mary can help with that - that’s your carnal human mind has no power and then demons on top of that not helping you. If Mary is online and with you look at how you respond to your phone! Literally no power

@@sharang747 Thank you so much for that! I’ve not been keeping up on my rosaries like I should be. I’ve supplemented with St. Theresa’s prayer (because it’s shorter, I know, that’s bad), but it doesn’t replace the power of the rosary. Amen 🙏🏼

When I was working in kichens I needed a phone on me at all times so I could connect with and communicate with my Chef and other workers. The first thing I did during the pandemic was put my phone down and not pick it up at all, it became as a landline for me. I am still in the same position but I will take it out with me so I can use a transit app to track bus times when I am on the go. Of all the issues that I have had to go through and cleanse myself of using a phone for me was the least bothersome.

I started checking my phone incessantly when my teenagers would say they tried calling and I didn't answer. What I need to do is turn my ringer on and put the phone down. If they call, I will hear it. I miss the days of a land line.

I literally had a conversation today with my father in law about wishing I didn't have to carry a phone. I use mine often because I walk dogs for a living and have to use an app to verify my visits to get paid. And of course, youtube and social media don't help when it comes to putting my phone down.

I am trying SO HARD to not look at my phone in the morning. I cannot figure out how to get my brain to wake up without scrolling, which immediately wakes it up. I've tried to about a week and although I set 4 or 5 alarms I was like catatonic. I couldn't get my legs off the bed until 1030am every day. I don't know how to fix it. I would pray immediately but slip back into sleep within a minute.

Put your phone in another room at night and don’t make excuses as to why you need to have it next to you. God will see your effort and help you get up. Ask your guardian Angel to wake you up early and when you do wake up, pray for the grace to roll over and get off your bed. As soon as you start walking your brain will wake up. There was a saint (Maybe St. John Vianey?) who treated his bed as if it were hot lava. As soon as he’d open his eyes he’d jumó right out of bed. Sloth is such a dangerous Vice. It is opposed to charity and will always hinder your prayer life. You must do your part in avoiding the things that increase sloth (phones nearby, excess comfort in bed) and God will do the rest because you cannot do it on your own. This is what he means by “in your weakness you will be made strong”

Definitely leave it in another room when you go to bed. Get an old school alarm clock. Stop looking at screens an hour before bed. When you get up, walk outside and look at the sky. This will reset your circadian rhythm and help you feel tired at night and awake in the morning.

The ability to quite literally put the phone down has some correlation with the level of responsbility we have to be able to be contacted. I know several people responsible for care of elderly parents. They can't be completely out of touch. There are parents of young children in school, or older kids away at school and all kinds of things can happen to it's not responsible to be completely off line for durations of time. We live in a culture were our accessibility is built in to how we support each other and so it would seem that SOME people in SOME situations can afford to unplug for blocks of time. So maybe the goal for many of us isn't to smash our phones, but to be honest about times when there is no practical need, to just do it... turn it off and stop being controlled by the next "ding" the next "buzz", the next update.

For as long as we think the access to the Internet is a necessary evil, we'll continue to let it control us. Yes, apps are designed to keep our attention. Yes, it's convenient to blame our addictions to the phone or technology. What I ponder on is the inconsistency in believing the phone is a necessary evil and yet, here we are watching a KZread video from influencers that make their money from views and subscribers. This channels may not be monetized but still, the wanting to spread a message, by default benefits from Internet phone use. The moment we truly realize the phone doesn't have power and that all the power comes from what I think about it, it's the moment we can see the phone for what it is...a tool. For someone who pays the bills thanks to a fully remote work...I don't see any reason to get rid of smartphones. What I do see is my need to be aware enough to stop seeing the Internet as medication.
