The Katahdin is a breed of domestic sheep developed in Maine, United States and named after Mount Katahdin - the state’s highest peak. The breed was developed during the second half of the 20th century by crossing selected St. Croix sheep from the Virgin Islands with various other breeds, including the Suffolk. Lambs were selected based on hair coat, meat-type conformation, high fertility, and flocking instinct.

Lol I will never do grain or hay Just all pastured
Lolz I though I was the only sheep farmer that called my flock that way
About her question of the disease resistance...I cannot find any Khatadins Sheep breeders in my state and Utah has such a massive array of terrain, parasites and climate. I'm going to go through a breeder in northern California that is 800 miles away, because that's the closest breeder I could find 😭. How would you go about introducing your new sheep to a completely new environment? We're getting them at 60-90 days, but we have no idea how to go about keeping them healthy from parasites and Illnesses 😩 is there any kind of boosters we could give them for the drive or as their getting used to their new area/climate and the microorganisms that come with it?

I would reach out to the folks at Shasta Ranch, they have a wealth of information on this breed. They raise Khatadins in Northeastern Oregon and we spoke with them a couple of times.. www.shastaranch.net
