What a brilliant move to bring Matt Cardona in for this match. Its hard to believe that he started off as a Edgehead during Copelands reign as World Champion in 2008. He was a bag carrier, a crony to the tallest order where it looked like he would never be anything more. You could just see the pride in Copelands face to see just how far Matt Cardona has come in his career. Betting on himself the entire way. Everything about this was absolutely tremendous

Cope open for TNT title makes no sense with the return of rankings. Cardona saved the segment; imagine someone like Aaron Solo coming out instead. A whole different reaction. Just need to bin the rankings and everything's fine.

@@hnaku8748 They are already binned. What do you need them to tell you its binned for it to be binned. This has been Adam Copeland since coming into the company with the exception of the Christian feud so yes it does make sense. Matt Cardona is not an actual member of the AEW roster he is a free agent right now and his career is intertwined with Copeland, Maybe just a 1 off for right now so obviously it was brilliant to bring him in as an opponent while he was available

This is what Copelands open challenges should be. Random people in the world of wrestling where it's like "holy shit this guy showed up". We know the chances of these guys winning are super minimal but if he builds a resume of defenses and they sign a guy they can have that person come in and win similar to when Owens beat Cena out of nowhere.

I really enjoyed the match, just wish they had done this without breaking the logic of rankings with the straight TNT title shot. Makes perfect sense otherwise. Imagine someone like Aaron Solo coming out(no disrespect, just an example). And this Cope open segment isn't as good. Just bin the rankings if we're not using it, no one ever complained it not being there.

@@tRicky531 Similar. In terms of wrestling I'm excited. But rankings just add a needless mental barrier. Just don't use it and the story is by default better. Or if we want to use it, then use it properly. Like give us the weightage metric(since defeating jobbers should count less) for each wrestler, and make a points table. Post the rules in AEW site for qualification for each title shot. Not a fan of current dilly-dally.

All he needed to know is “Copeland goes over” and the rest is up to him. He’s got the in-ring talent, he’s got the promo, he’s got the merch, he’s got the look, he’s got the charisma - without exaggeration he is the whole package. And he knows better than to put his package in Tony Khan’s hands! 🤣 In this context it doesn’t MATTER that he lost, Cardona made another top guy look fantastic and that alone makes him worth his appearance fee.

They need to bin the rankings man. Otherwise the open challenge makes logical sense. Cardona saved the segment; if someone lower card came out the segment likely isn't as good and illogical. Imagine Aaron Solo getting a straight TNT title shot, a whole different reaction.

Cause I never thought that I'll see this day finally happening. I mean seeing Matt Cardona on AEW again for the TNT title open challenge was a shock (even Edge's mind was blowing)! 😯🤔😲 1:45 1:56
