    Matt and Jonathan have fabulous chemistry, they transmit so much. It is incredible how this series portrays situations that are not so distant, as Jonathan says, it is still in the shadows if that is how it is in the United States. Let's imagine the rest of the world.

    jonathan baileys explanation about the sex scenes nails it. it does so much more for viewers than just being provocative bait or fan service and does so much for people’s own perception of their sexualities and they do such a great job of handling it

    Skippy's portrayal strikes me as incredibly emotional, depicting an internal struggle between religious purity and his genuine yearning for true love. Jonathan's adeptness in capturing these nuances ensures that the sexual scenes don't come across as gratuitous. It's through this role that I first got to know him, and I'm eagerly anticipating his future performances; first episode 5.... I can't breathe until I've watched it😢

    THANK YOU Jonathan Bailey!!! The absolute best quote from this interview from my perspective is his statement that the characters achieve "what most people would have without question." I came of age in the 80's & 90's and we still couldn't have much of it in public. I remember watching (and maybe drooling just a little over) Matt Bomer on "Tru Calling" and certainly never thought there'd be a day he or any actor like him would be publicly out. Over the next 20 years I've watched as gay bashing and bullying have become outdated. Public perception has changed, however, sex scenes between two people of the same gender, especially male, are still a bit taboo. People of opposite genders film pretty graphic stuff and it is viewed like a car chase or restaurant scene. But if it is two men it is still uncomfortable for a whole lot of people. Like everything else, I think the work of brave and honest individuals like these two amazing actors are going to help make it a little less "extra". I hope they are both celebrated and awarded for their honest and grounded performances!!!

    As a 44-year-old gay male who grew up in the Midwest, this series doesn't feel far removed at all. Certainly there wasn't quite the legal ramifications of homosexuality as there was only 50 years prior (though there certainly were some), but the emotional challenges of accepting oneself and fighting for social acceptance were 100% there. I relate STRONGLY to the emotional arc of Skippy in particular as well as the dynamic between Marcus and Frankie. Emotionally, it feels like they are retelling my life story which is why I have fallen madly in love with this series.

    Depends where in the Midwest you grew up. Way back when, the first thing for anyone slightly diverging from the norm was to get away from their hole in road conservatives call towns to "Cities". it must suck ass, not in good a way.. Both actors are genuinely surprised that some laws were officially repealed quite recently. Most never are. They stay in limbo under a pile of new ones. People count on federal laws, european laws, common sense in general, but it's no surprise at all that we usually forget to erase old views. It can even come handy to marry childbrides (to their rapist if need be) in the USA. From the 50s to Trump, babysteps really. Fellow Travellers was way better than I expected. The sex was not gratuituous and done in style : for anyone willing to watch this programme it spoke volumes about them both in short sequences, barely even nude. Naughty naughty ideas in tiny tiny brains worked overtime and saw, for sure a lot of sex..It's called suggestion. Job done !! And the story is so good BECAUSE of their political games completely at odd with an essential part of their life.

    I disagree with the moderator's saying the sex scenes were shocking. It all seemed very natural. Inappropriate locations can become appropriate very quickly for anyone. Every human being can relate in some way to having to live up to someone else's standards or expectations, but keeping one's authentic self in the midst of that is the trick and a lot of what I'm seeing in this show. The characters are very bravely trying to do that.

  • @BobbyBaylor

    @BobbyBaylor

    Some of the sex IS quite shocking, specifically the scene at the beach hotel where Hawk slaps Tim and then dominates him physically and psychologically. It's also shocking how explicit some of the scenes are for a premium cable channel. They're well done and appropriate to the story, but visually borderline pornographic at times. I don't think the interviewer means it's shocking that they would be having sex.

    To be honest as hetero woman I cried out myself for their love and especially for Skippy. I can´t get over it still. Skippy brought me to tears so many times, his loyalty to Hawk, his tenderness, pureness of heart, believing in love, his authenticity and boldness (which Hawk was missing even though he was ,the macho" in their ,,relationship") Skippy´s love towards Hawk was so epic that I find myself feeling angry many times for Hawk´s actions and his selfishness, we could say even manipulative nature. I could understand why Hawk behaves the way he does but he was constantly breaking Skippy´s heart who loved him beyond words and until the end of his life. He didn´t deserve to be Hawk´s second choice every single time meanwhile Skippy was through good and bad always there for him (as we could see even when his own wife and family gave up on him Skippy was again there, the only one to stand by him and to help him), forgiving, giving chances, loving him selflessly and deeply. Matt Bomer´s and Jonathan Bailey´s chemistry was sooo palpable and their perfomances were pure Masterpiece!! Jonathan´s acting talent is just surreal in each and every role he plays, he´s like Leonardo Dicaprio (if not better) of his generation!

Bellissimo sentirlo dire alla fine- lui non era un amico, ma l'uomo che amavo . Facile anare Skippy, ma Hawk e' devastante

    I think he's referring to how explicit the sex is at times and how physically and psychologically aggressive it was in certain scenes. That's what's shocking--not that two gay male characters would be having sex.

    @@BobbyBaylor I have only seek clips of the show so far, as I’m awaiting my local SVOD service SkyShowtime (JV between Paramount & Comcast), which is horrible, to upload the entire season as they’re 5 weeks behind Paramount+’s release schedule. So I hope that you’re interpretation of his comment is correct, but I don’t have high hopes considering the weird comments from some in media about other recent gay themed TV shows & films, of which there are very few. I’m happy though that Matthew Bomer has seemingly more embraced his sexuality in some of the roles he has taken ever since he got outed during White Collar’s original run on USA network.

    When things are campy, it's hard to take them seriously. That may be okay if you're going for humor or satire, but that's not what this show is about. It's about living through an era of fear and the struggle to be one's true self and lying and compartmentalizing as self-preservation. Those are not humorous topics.

    It's not "woke" (whatever the fuck that is; just another stupid phrase invented by somebody trying to be hip)...They added the black characters because they added more depth to the story...Marcus is trying to make a career of writing and has doors shut in his face - that's real life...Interesting that he joes to work at Jet magazine...This is the magazine that published the photos of Emmitt Till's tortured body after his horrific murder in 1955...Perhaps it's Marcus who authors that story!! I think the film is better than the book, which focuses too much on McCarthy and not enough on the human story...

    @@janetcooper1074 You must not be very well read or very smart if you don't understand what "woke" means in this context. Millions of people know and love the book. The book stands on its own. It didn't need a "black" story glommed onto a completely different story. It's obvious why they did it and it's unfortunate. If one didn't want to tell the story of the book then why buy the rights and just change the book completely? If you didn't like the book's focus then make your own story. Don't take over someone else's story. It's like saying you don't like the focus on the Cowardly Lion in Wizard of Oz so let's just add a black lion instead. It's silly and artistically silly.
