There are more Basnights in Manteo than tourists. I can't remember when they were not in the play or Mayor or serving in some other official capacity. Lovely family.

One of the most underrated shows to exist on American television.

I love Matlock episodes! Those old ones ,like Matlock, Perry Mason episodes are thee best ! Some reason they were taken off my phone ,very disappointed Off my phone again

My father Mike Hayman was an extra in one of the courtroom scenes. He used to own a restaurant called The Seafare on The Outer Banks in Nags Head in 80s and 90s. Really popular buffet style place. May he Rest In Peace both Andy and my father. I've always wanted to see this episode with the shot of my dad in the courthouse in Manteo. He is only in the shot for a few moments but it's still a classic show! My Dad was great friends with former Senator Marc Basnight and we knew their family well. They had a place called Basnights Lone Cedar restaurant and if it is still open it is one of the best places to eat IMO on the whole Nags Head causeway. Just some tid bits for some of you tourists and visitors who love local lore or info about the old OBX. 👍

One of the BEST SHOWS. My mom and I every Sunday Watch.

I use to see Andy and his wife Cindy coming out of church in manteo years back I gave Andy a metal sign that said Myers lake on it he really enjoyed it.

The black cop ends up being Matlocks investigator in later episodes, and ended up after that as Trivette, sidekick on Walker Texas Ranger...

I lived 4 houses down from Andy on the sound side..met him several times and was an extra in The Hunting Party episode. I had just painted the Manteo police cars then..I think that was Fred Bears red speedboat at the dock..I still have my check stubs from being an extra..It was a awesome experience..❣️

I remember a girl I knew in school said the actor couldn't handle that boat and that the owner had to drive it while hidden by the windshield.

Great episode in Andy Griffith's hometown. This is where the Matlock/Conrad working relationship began, for the following 4 years! Clarence Gilyard 1st appearance in this 2-pt. episode.

@@DrRawBalls_TheDummy That's right. Weren't you blessed for Andy Griffith to have finally found a young man (Clarence Gilyard) to work with Andy, himself, on a top-rated lawyer show? Obviously, you can't almost have "Matlock" without private investigators, who is needed in near every shooting of the show, and that was why Kene Holliday got in trouble, because he wasn't just in jail, for the accident (in real-life), he was also sent to a rehab. clinic.

When Andy and Clarence sat down and played guitar on that episode, I saw a connection there that seemed to take Andy right back to good ol Mayberry. I thought that was really cool.

Great two parter with a perfect way they introduced Conrad and the chemistry between Ben and Conrad got off to a great start. I did miss Tyler a great deal but Conrad was a perfect replacement and was great in his own way.

It is easy to have that Conrad wanted to be on Madlocks' team and eventually he did make it there

I like the older Mattock shows with Billy Lewis the old codger

I'm two half three hours from Manteo and I had been two or three times and I love it

Another star from the Andy griffith show in this is R.G.Armstrong he worked with Andy in the lost colony years ago and was in an episode of the Andy griffith show also.

Whenever I see that opening scene showing Oregon Inlet and the old Bonner Bridge, I think of the 1987 novel "THE HATTERASK INCIDENT" by John D Randall, and I know that Andy Griffith would have been the right man to make that novel into a movie, being from Manteo, and one of the characters in the novel is a lawyer from Manteo.

My family used to visit The Outer Banks and Manteo every year. I seen this episode recently and know where all this stuff is.

bi kosi if I remember correctly this aired as the opener to season 4 an was a 2 part episode so season 4 episodes 1&2 an it was called the hunting party an I believe it was aired 1989 but it could of been filmed in 88 since it aired in 89.. hope that helps

George spence along time friend of Andy griffith who was in the lost colony is in this hunting party. back in 1964 he was on the Andy griffith show in the episode called guest in the house.George was a very nice man i visted him a few times at his home in kitty hawk.he passed away a year or so ago.

The beach scene was filmed at the Nags Head Hotel on Virginia Date Trail..my cousin and I were extras.

We had a "Matlock" party that nite. We lived in KDH at the time.

The plane at the beginning (during the opening credits) of this video is bringing Spencer Hamilton to Roanoke Island. Ben Matlock doesn't arrive on the island until about 20 minutes into the episode. It may have been an optical illusion...when bright sunlight reflects in water, colors do seem to change...rainbow effect! Besides, it's Andy Griffith .... everyone was known for playing jokes on one another!

I can tell you that none of the extras outside were paid anything. I stumbled on one of the exterior courthouse scenes as it was being filmed (or should I say "trying" to be filmed. There's that one jerk everywhere you look, it seems, that wants to make a name for himself for posterity. Every time they got things quiet and called "action" this guy would start whistling the old Andy Griffith Show theme and force them to start over). Hollywood has some kind of influence over nature. When they called for "QUIET" even the seagulls shut up. You just don't have a coastal town without seagulls driving you nuts. The scene I watched being filmed wasn't in either of the two videos shown here - but it wouldn't have made any difference. By the time it was all edited, the area where I was standing was barely out of view of the camera. I can't be 100% certain, but I think the expensive house it shows him staying in a few times was his own house. It's no longer there, but I can still find the location on a map, and the shoreline did look familiar to me. I drove up to his house once - more on a dare than anything else. I turned around in the circular drive and left before anyone caught me trespassing. 😁 The main reason he wanted to film an episode locally was (as he put it): "So people will learn how to pronounce "Manteo" I could share a few other things, but they have no connection with this show.

Lol nice filming blooper 😂 they gave the black cop a Dare County Sheriff uniform but Gave him a Manteo Police Department Squad car 😂 👍

Tamara McClinton I live in Manteo NC basically Dare County and yea they gave him a sheriff uniform and a town cop car.. each town has its on PD but we also have Dare County sheriffs which they can go into any town as long as it’s in Dare County and they have 3 districts A,B and C

Yep that was pointed out at the time this came out. An outsider wouldn't know the difference but a local certainly would. At least they really did film in the old sheriff's office inside the old courthouse

This is explained elsewhere but this video highlight reel is cutting together two different scenes from the show. The first plane is brining Spencer to Roanoke Island and the second one is bringing Matlock. I'm surprised more people aren't complaining about one plane being a tail dragger and the other having tricycle under carriage. If you run a search on this episode another channel has it uploaded in segments and you can clearly see that these two planes are used in two different scenes with two different actors.

I think Heather Locklear is tops, and Barbara Eden is in the mix. Heather was quite a bit mire provocative, but not trashy. Farrah ir Barbara never revealed themselves. Heather did some in Dynasty.
