This video is just too cute and is a dramatic illustration of the way the male vs female phenomenon is recognizable even in very different species. These Greek tortoises live to be over 100 years old and are threatened by the pet trade. The ones in this video were filmed in the wild.

That's just the way this species evolved. Probably so that she can carry more eggs. In many animals the male is smaller. For example, sharks are another in which, in most species, the female is much bigger than the male. Thanks for your interest in these unusual animals!

Since we cannot ask them and have a response we can understand, we really don't know. But maybe it is just part of their excitement. I tried but was unable to catch the high pitched squeaking sound that they sometimes make at the apparent moment of fulfillment. Why? No person can know. However, I think it is reasonable to think that they experience pleasure and excitement when they mate. Even flies, for example, seem to do so because it was shown experimentally that those male flies who were not able to mate when they wanted to, would consume more alcohol than those who did mate frequently.
