Mara Wilson's mom was suffering from breast cancer and hospitalized during the production of the movie. So Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman offered to take care of Mara. And unlike their characters in the movie, they treated her like she was one of their own. Unfortunately, Mara's mom passed away a few months before the movie hit theaters, but was lucky enough to see the movie at a special advanced screening before her death.

Hi do you know Rhea she is such a great actress and in Matilda she wasn’t very nice and she barely noticed that she had a daughter and her daughter is a ordinary child and Rhea herself isn’t Matilda’s mother and I just think that Matilda comes from a ordinary family and she comes from a very bright family and like in some sort of baby centre harry and his wife didn’t know that they was getting a very bright child and that person who picked her up and showed her to harry he did not like her
