I doubt that he'll ever get past this traumatic event. Life is cruel, and while it may be generous to some, it clearly isn't to others. Meredith's anxiety at the end to get out of there as soon as possible was the showcase of the word "cringe". I hated watching this.

I was rejected by my childhood love around the age of 15, or... well, I never had the courage to confront her myself about it, despite being friends with her for years. But her friend told my friend she wasn't interested in me that way, so I tried to move on. Around ten years later, she tracked me down and contacted me randomly, to confess she had been in love with me the whole time, yet was scared to say so. But I didn't know why she had contacted me and mentioned I had a girlfriend at the time in my reply, so she never told me her feelings. Over ten more years later, I contacted her through social media to reconnect, and after a few weeks of emailing, I reminded her I had a crush years ago (because of something else that came up in our conversation), and she finally confessed to me. We've been together ever since. It took us over 20 years to find our ways back to each other, because we were both scared to ruin our friendship and talk about how we really felt. So I agree - take a chance and be honest. If nothing else, reconnecting with my friend would have brought good memories back to my life, but it ended up with a lot more.

She s at her peak having her best life, no doubt she has more than enough bright and interesting friends in Toulouse. Why would she spend some time discussing with him? He is the one chasing, not her. There is always a possibility, but the probabilities are extremely low. They will surely remember that for years to come. He needs some grand gesture BUT has to bide his time since she has a BF. Well, that is IF he is willing to "wait" for her. He actually has an advantage for having a lot of history with her. Too bad he gave up early and tried to move on without her too soon. A quick tip for guys....... A) If you haven't heard from a person for years, there's a reason. B) If someone is not on social media, there's a reason. Don't set yourself up like poor Mathieu did. Don't listen to these morons in the comment section who say "At least he had the guts". That was a losing situation from moment one, the reasons being A and B.

Why is everyone crapping on Mathieu, his mission was to reconnect, romance was a small bonus. Also it didn't seem like she was ultra serious with the boyfriend and she immediately recognized Mathieu. I say it's a win for my boy, you never know, maybe she ended her boyfriend situation and they started dating, yall are mad negative!

I agree - I don't understand why the comment section is so negative. Everybody sees her as not interested in reconnecting, but she wrote to him for over 5 years after she last saw him, was clearly hurt a bit when he didn't respond to her last letter (which she still clearly remembers strongly), and (as you said) recognizes him immediately after not seeing him in 15 years. There are definitely strong feelings there from her from childhood -- whether friendship or something more. And I interpret her awkwardness at the end as not wanting to either get his hopes up or respond in a way that could be misinterpreted when she said she has a boyfriend, all of this happening on television. Maybe when they are alone and get a chance to talk, she'll open up more, maybe even be overwhelmed at the chance to reconnect. Or maybe she'll hold a grudge, despite his explanations. But everyone acting like she's immediately "friendzoning" him or just opening the curtain to be polite -- she cared enough about a boy to keep writing letters for FIVE YEARS. Has anyone here done that with a friend at that young of an age when never seeing the person again? That's incredible, right there. I wish them both well, regardless of what happens.

Inasmuch as I was rooting for poor Mathieu, the charming Meredith has grown to be way out of his league. He probably started secretly stalking her via social media contrary to his story, seeing how attractive Meredith turned out to be. The last words from the host 'To walk out arm in arm' was the last straw for Meredith. See how she was almost running away from that show.

First, this is making a lot of assumptions based on appearance. Maybe she's "out of his league," but he had no idea what she even looked like now. So it wasn't like he was fantasizing about some hot girl for years - all he remembered was a childhood friend. And for many people, appearance is important, but connection is also foundational in a long-term friendship or romance. And as for "hung up," she kept writing to him until she was age 11-12, over 5 years after they had last seen each other. That's an eternity in childhood! If she didn't have strong feelings (even if just friendly) it's very doubtful she would have kept in touch for so long, and the fact that she mentions a grudge and recalls him not returning her letter indicates she at least had deep feelings at that time. Maybe it's all a lost cause, but she still chose to pull back the curtain. I hope they are able to talk about what happened more honestly in private, and maybe they'll become friends again, maybe even more someday. Or not. I wish them both well, regardless.

Perso j'étais archi fauché, maigrelet, pesait 58 kg à 24 ans, pas un sous, des dettes pour payer mes études, travaillais tous les samedis et vacances scolaires pour gagner ma croûte, et j'ai dragué la plus belle fille de ma petite ville, parce que 5 ans plutôt elle était tombée folle amoureuse de moi, nous étions trop jeunes, nous nous étions infiniment plu, mais ce coup de foudre trop jeune était impossible à vivre, donc je l'avais gentiment éconduite . Ce coup de foudre resta sans lendemain, je ne répondis même pas à sa lettre reçue quelques jours plus tard. Nous ne nous étions même pas embrassé mais ce moment nous est resté et est resté indélébile dans notre mémoire profonde. 5 ans plus tard donc, une bombe sexuelle virevoltait à la piscine. Tous les mecs la voulait. Non seulement j'ai remporté la mise, mais surtout nous avons retrouvé immédiatement notre amour de jeunesse, nous ne nous sommes plus jamais quitté, j'ai aujourd'hui 52 ans, elle en a 47, nous avons fait 6 beaux enfants, et notre bonheur est total. L'amour d'enfance, certifie la douceur, la fidélité, la profondeur des liens. Son odeur, ses carresses, me sont irremplaçables. Et c'est partagé. Vive les amours d'enfance ! Yes, he clearly has deeper feelings, but she must have too to be writing to him 5-6 years after they stopped seeing each other as small children. Whether her feelings back then were only friendly or not, or how much she was hurt by him not replying, as well as how their conversation goes will probably decide whether she's interested in reconnecting more too. He explicitly said before she was brought on that he also just hopes to be friends, if that's the way things go. Maybe he's lying (or lying to himself) about that, but it's possible he feels that way too. I reconnected with a close female friend once years later, maybe with a slight hope of something more, but we've been close friends ever since. It happens too. Regardless of what happens, I wish them both well.

Méfie toi des souvenirs rien n'est plus vivant qu'un souvenir, il dégage en lui une charge émotionnelle qui transcende l'âge. Être encore attaché à un souvenir d'une amourette d'enfance prouve que le bonhomme a très peu, voir aucune option et vit dans une sorte de psy-rose made in Disney. @@francoisvivet4610 désolée de te décevoir mais même si elle finit seule avec des chats des gosses et un corps déformé comme tu le dis dans ton commentaire sexiste pas sûre qu'elle voudrait en plus d'un homme dont elle n'a jamais voulu. C'est une femme belle, qui a confiance en elle, de l'élocution et de l'humour, elle fait sophistiquée sans être prout prout. Elle peut avoir n'importe quel homme à n'importe quel âge avec son physique et sa personnalité, et je pense qu'une femme de ce type même dans 10ans restera inchangée car elle a du charisme en plus de la beauté intérieure et extérieure. À côté le mec est mignon mais trop timide trop renfermé, n'a pas l'air d'avoir confiance en lui et surtout il vit dans la désillusion pour vouloir se rapprocher d'une personne dont il était proche en maternelle. Notre état d'esprit d'enfant est complètement différent de l'âge adulte comment peut-il espérer qu'une personne reste bloquée sur lui depuis la maternelle ? À la limite si ils s'étaient recroisés il n'y a pas longtemps ok mais là il se fait juste des films

@@lulubs3716 je suis une fille et perso le mec m'attire (je pourrais je veux dire sortir avec lui) et j'ai tjs étais attiré par les tête d'ampoules intello pr moi elle fait pitié cette meuf elle est certe élégante mais ça fait pas tt la beauté ....mon message n'a pas pour but de la mettre plus bas que terre mais elle donne une image mauvaise des femme comme si tt les fille dont moi était attiré par le mm type de gars j'aime pas du tt ces gars la ceux qui doit disant ont "confiance" en eux et n allée pas me.sortir.jai des problème merci mon entourage et 'ami' me le rappelle très bien assez .
