MATCHBOX Restoration Yesteryear Y10 1908 G.P.Mercedes
This beautiful toy, hiding away in a cardboard box, was accidentally thrown onto a bonfire. The owner, Lewis Martin from the UK, quickly realized what had happened and managed to drag it out of the flames! - Alas, the damage had been done, this model was no longer beautiful but instead, had been transformed in seconds to a smoldering piece of scrap.
What were his options? He could throw it away and it would be gone for ever or maybe, just maybe, someone would like the challenge of restoring it. The rest is history, I hope you love the ending, I am extremely happy at how this model turned out.

I love your meticulous expertise and concise explications, not to mention your smiles and the joy we get from watching you at work. I have enjoyed Australia twice in the flesh, but old age and an insufficient pension cannot prevent me from enjoying it now by proxy. Many thanks for your own contributions.
Wow one of the most beautiful models ever made. Thanks for restore it Marty.
I now look forward to all of your new posts. You have an excitement in your voice, where others don't. Believe the next time I'm at Goodwill rubbish store, I will start myself a model restoration project. Thanks Marty!
Of all the the videos you have made, I think this is a very remarkable one. This demonstrates your skills for restoring an antique vehicle like this.
Superb. Like a Phoenix rising from the flames. About the 2 pedals. This racer was made before the standard control layout of 3 pedals, and a gearshift between the front seats. I think the Austin 7 was the first mass produced car with standard controls. Some of the early cars had levers on the steering wheel for throttle, and ignition advance. Some also had a lever for manually pumping in the engine oil. So many functions have now been automated. Alot of people around today who have never even seen a manual cold start choke.

True. Pump on left side is manual oil pump. Brake was a lever on right side. Most midget race cars if the 40's and 50's retained this layout. No brake pedal as there is no room and besides who needs brakes in a race car lol.

Heck, race cars back then had a crew of two, because there was so much manual engine management that the driver just couldn't be bothered with it.

I recalled from a Top Gear episode that it was a Cadillac that had the first 'modern' control layout. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_Type_53
What most people consider terminal, you consider a challenge. Looks an absolute treat!

Too bad he's not an oncologist.
So good to see these British made models brought back to life in an era when the UK no longer makes anything at all !!!!!!
One mans trash is another mans treasure. These are the best makeovers. And this is indeed one of the best.
Always love to read the news paper headlines in your painting area. You got some crazy ghost there.

This was, without a doubt, your finest piece of workmanship yet. Tip my hat to you, sir!
The before looks like a "barn find" . As always, a great project. Thank you for sharing!

An outstanding restoration, Marty. As good as new again. Nice to see Julie make a guest appearance.
I collected matchbox cars since 1975. I loved that they were so cheap and wonderful.
Wow Marty! This vehicle is a heritage. This Mercedes car is from the 1900's. This reminds me of an old snowplow.
Wow,that one was a real challenge and you rose to the occasion. Excellent job!
Absolutely a great restoration! Amazing job!
This one was pulled out of the fire -- twice! You've outdone yourself Marty!
I remember you unpacking that and thinking that is too far gone . Apparently not for you . So well done . Thanks for the entertainment throughout the year

That's a Chitty-chitty-bang-bang!
Bravo! This is a truly fabulous rescue! That poor little model really did dice with death, but has bounced back to health spectacularly.
That looks brilliant! One of your best makeovers.
I'm a new sub, and your videos are keeping me sane whilst I recover from a foot operation that'll see me pretty much housebound for six weeks. Thanks for your perfectionism, humour and wonderful work.
Another quality restoration, breathing in new life into condemned cars. Was genuinely surprised to see the new paint reveal the dials and pedals
You definitely saved this ones life. Great work sir.
Absolutely amazing!
One of your best Marty. Merry Christmas mate.
Great job! That looks wonderful!
That's beautiful. The original looked exactly like it had been in an horrific crash on the track. Your restoration is superb. Nice one.

Wow!!! What A Beaut Job You Did Marty!!! Came Up Like A True Gem That It Is Now!!!
You are a true magician! 😎
Absolutely Fantastic restoration , Marty 5 Stars !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At 65, I still have all of my “Yesteryear” models. The details, paint....and on some of them the “brass work” is--as you say -- a work of art! And by the way......I’m using the term “fiddly” now.....my wife says she hasn’t heard that since our days listening to The Who’s “Tommy”! Thanks again, so much, for an enjoyable and relaxing video!
From wreck to riches beautifully done
Like a phoenix out of the ashes.
Congrats Marty. The worst they come the more you shine.
Fantastic, Marty. You are definitely the resto master.
A fantastic restoration yet again :) Well done!! :)
