This is a big favourite model of mine - when I was a kid, in the late 1960's, and early '70s, my dad was a civil engineer, and the company he worked for had a real one of these, which I saw working several times. It was orange rather than yellow, and the Matchbox one is rather simplified, but I still love it. I always wished that the outrigger jacks worked, though. The plastic that the red wheel hubs are made from is rather odd - it shrinks over time. I have had a couple of boxed models, that have rarely, if ever, opened, and yet the polyethylene tyres Matchbox always used, have fallen off the hubs. The tyres never change, as the plastic used is inert, and very high quality. (I have dug some up from my back garden, and after a wash in hot water, they still look brand new) The hubs have shrunk. They also, but rarely, crack and crumble away. Just thought you might like to know. Lovely restoration, as always.

Hi Paul. A beautiful restoration as always. A really lovely addition to the other King-size heavy duty vehicles. It was interesting to see that you had to do extra work to remove the old paint! Perhaps you could explain why sometime.

Nice job. I’ve realised that your tapping threads with a metric tap but when this was built they used the imperial system. You could have used BA threads. But I bet they’re hard to acquire.

This will be cool! What is plastic regeneration liquid? Is it like future polish or just plastic polish? That came out so nicely. Building the box is as much an art as re building the vehicle... I miss matchbox artwork and the catalogs. Wonderful job!

En promedio, una renovación de este tipo demora aproximadamente una semana; me resulta difícil determinar el tiempo exacto en horas porque siempre hago varias renovaciones a la vez. Saludos cordiales.

always after painting, harden the paint with acrylic clear varnish with hardener - it is a high-gloss varnish from the Polish company App
