This referee was a disgrace to his profession. So many bad incorrect decisions against the Netherlands. The big countries must win. Commercial interests rule. That's why I hardly ever watch football anymore. Completely disillusioned, I dropped out and that has now been reconfirmed.

Virgil is a smart chap, he is too experienced to get caught out with that last question.

Dutch myself, dispite that it was questionable decision, I believe thats more on VAR. But England would proberly have scored the equalizer anyway. Fed up its scored like that in 90st min. But neither teams actually have great odds against Spain anyway

It's crazy. Apart from the penalty incident even, there were so many challenges on midfeild that the ref just gave a foul when nothing was happening. Like he didnt know the difference between a fair challenge and a foul and just whistled everytime. During the cross when van Dijk got yellow, it was clear that the ref was completely lost. didnt know what to do. Amazing at this level. Any germans who know this ref? is he always so shitty?

The ref was a disaster, in the days before the game we all could read that the english players were not happy with him for this game as they were afraid he would be for the Dutch. So in fact the manipulation of this man already started days before the game. He must have thought "I will show the english players that I am not." Add the fact that this German individual is a Bayern Munich fan it's a 1 + 1 when Munichs striker Kane does the "dieing swan act," rolling over the grass, pretending to be severely injured, but completely fit to take the penalty himself, you too are a disgrace mr. I thought that Virgil comments were very polite and very restrained. A proper gentleman even in defeat.

Matchfixing.. Awfull how a ref can screw up a semi final..

Previous time the ref got 300,- to whisle likethat. I geuss this time he got 350 ,-or so. It's always easy to win if u got the ref as your 12th man.

Wow, until now I didn't realise that van Dijk was so level-headed. Fair play to him.

A professional football player on and off the pitch well done in keeping it cool as the media press tries to convince you that it was probably unfair, but you handled it well. Bravo

Match fixing is what we said during the game without ever heard of his record.

England showed the first half for 30 minutes what they are capable off if the chains are unlocked (first time this tournament), As a big Dutch fan (born there :) i have to admit i even enjoyed the finesse and quality of play from England that time. The Dutch team got control back due to tactical changes on the midfield by the staff (Veerman on the left). The second half was a tie, with a great goal in the 90 min which hurts a lot. The only thing i have to say of the referee: he made some blunders. I hope the final will be a great game, if the English team unchains itself from the rigid "god knows what" they have a good chance to win against Spain, otherwise it can become very painfull for England in their last game of the tournament. Congratulations for the victory, you all real englisch socces fans, have a good one , Peace.

Football used to be my sport - I was a player, a coach, a fan and even a ref, but the game is ruined. 2010 World Cup - Uruguay vs Ghana game was a turning point for me. My love for the game died during that World Cup with the last blow in the final. Within a year I had stopped coaching, stopped following domestic leagues and stopped playing. Every so often I try to enjoy football - picking the occasional tournament, like EURO2024, to follow - only to realise that the once beautiful game has continued to down its path to total corruption.

I agree with you 100%. Losing to England is not so hard to accept. Never felt any negative emotions towards them. Losing to injustice decisions really hurts. The English know, they haven’t forgotten Lampard’s goal against Germany.

German ref didn't see handball in the box from an English player just before Kane dove, just before English second goal he whistled for a dive from an English player while the Dutch had a dangerous outbreak. Ref literally created both English goals and the last 30 minutes of the match was like a personal vendetta against the Dutch from the ref. Never seen something like that, ever.

As a Dutcm man i find it still a penalty. For this reason: Kane and Dumfries both went for the ball. However Kane hit the ball and Denzel missed the ball. They had contact and the one that has a higher leg is the one that gets punished. This is how the sport is. In any other area Kane would get a free kick and Denzel en Yellow card. It was in the box so the only conclusion was a penalty. When the lads watch the incident again most of them will see that. If we were on that spot we would react the same. Unfortunate contcats do not make the difference whether it's a foul or not. But the hands ball from the English guy i believe Saka should have been reviewd by the var and given a penalty as well for sure because we got one against us as well. Saka got it on his arm twice. And the ball has a sensor. So i don't get it. But England won fair and were better. Koeman better should look into the mirror why the always failing Depay can stay in the game. And more players that were ready to be substituted.

Dutch culture is very easy with adopting new languages. I think 95% of the people here are bilingual, many trilingual in various degrees fluency. We're officially the most proficient English speakers of countries that don't have English as a native language. I myself speak Dutch, English and German, and to a lesser extend Spanish and French. And no, I'm not a "language person".... I never liked languages. My daughter is 5 and speaks Dutch, Spanish and English. But thats a bit of an unfair example because she has grown up with her parents speaking those 3 languages at home to her and each other :-)

This might be the most casual and accepting of a loss I've seen from him, dealt with the referee question well too.

If I was the defender involved I would give Virgil an earful for not telling the world it wasn't a penalty and wouldn't pay with Holland as long as Virgil was in the team.

Thank you V.A.R, I guess I have to say that as a Dutch fan. The penalty was a piss poor given penalty, awefull mistake by V.A.R. because I don't think it was one. Can you say the Dutch missed out the finals because of the penalty? I don't think so, the Dutch were certainly not clinical enough. They should have scored more during this tournament, we lack a killer in front of the goal. England congratulations with the late winner, and maybe it is time to replace Kane. ​@danlondon4588 Everone knows there is a clear difference. For example everybody is also holding in the box on corners and freekick. These would all be cards outside the box. If we fouled the same there would be 4 yellows after every corner. Fouls inside and outside the box are judged different.

A gentleman who really wants to say the referee and the VAR screwed them over with the penalty

I really don't like when people make excuse of fixed or rigged games after losing. People makes assumption and leave the public affected by it without any further investigation. Virgil is a sportsman.

Dodgy penalty aside, best team won on the night..

Match was totally fixed , i didn't see any protest against the penalty by Netherlands like they always do . They were super chill Plus how in hell is that a penalty Dumfries trying to put the block and it was kane who kicked his foot while taking a shot And to officiate a match by the refree who was banned for match fixing is outrageous Football is dead

They didn't protest like they usually do because what's the point? It can even get you in trouble, see the yellow card against Virgil later in the game.

And for what reason was that yellow card on Virgil?! Wasn't there an objection because there was a penalty kick on Declan Rice, who grabbed Aki in the Roman style of wrestling and shot him to the ground? Or do you not see these things?

England were the better team overall and came out deserved winners. They simply created more chances and had more shots on goal. The pen was a bit soft, but Dumfries went in high with studs up and caught Kane. Admittedly he was only trying to block the ball, but if you go in high with studs up on most areas on the pitch, it's a foul. Even if you don't make contact they still call it for dangerous play when you jump in high with studs up. The ref didn't give it initially. It was the VAR refs that told him to have another look.

The match was not fixed but the decision by the Ref to call a foul a min before the goal when Guheri fell and the Dutch Winger had broken on the right flank was terrible as was the obvious Stones corner in the 86th min..I agree about the pen as well,people who comment on it simply don't grasp that Kane struck his foot against Dumfries not the other way around...He had every right to block that shot and no other English player called for a penalty...I thought straight away it was not a penalty...

Press trying to trip him up, shameful.

What a crappy question by the last reported, shouldn’t be allowed near the players. Trying to put them into very difficult situations…

I prefer Bellingham style. Just called it what it is; matchfixing. I know Bellingham got 40 thousand dollars fine for saying it (what is absolutely ridiculous and shows how much corruption there is) but why are they so worried about the money? So disappointing. They make so much money. It’s so weak. The footballers are not at all hero’s.

"Called what it is"... Come on, mate, be serious. There is no proof that there was matchfixing. I know, remarks based on evidence have become really unpopular these days, but really, if you make such a bold statement you will have to come with rock solid evidence. And no, not just "I know" or "I heard". Evidence that could stand in a court.

Omdat Malen niet zo slim is als Kane. Hij had moeten acteren, net zoals Kane. Dan gaat de VAR pas kijken. Maar die scheids staat bekend om match fixing schijnt.

As an english person that penalty was a complete joke

The penalty was early in the game and it was the 1:1....that penalty did not change anything, there was enough time to score a second goal but not enough good chances and conceded the second goal in the last minute, no time to react ...the referee was definitely not to blame.

England was better, but the penal was completely undeserved. Ref was a total joke all game.

Dont be to hard on Virgil. After the game the emotions run hard. England was a little better during the whole game but they didi not create much chanches either. Bitvat the end they deserved it more.

Second time netherland got robbed. Against argentina and now in the semi finals. Matchfixing for sure and what a disgrace. Penalty for blocking the ball and kane's shoe kicked ball and shoe of dumbfries. Meanwhile fifa is proclaming fair play. Something must be done to these referee decisions and only a bullit will fixed this injustice.

100% matchfixing.. Ake and Xavi Simons were literally wrestled to the ground during the last free kick and corner. Stones hit the ball on the head which should have been a corner for the Netherlands. Penalty was debateable.. normally it would go down as a challenge for the ball as it already had been kicked at the goal and Kane was the one that hit Dumfries foot instead of Dumfries hitting Kane. And Gakpa was taken out during a counter and then Netherlands lost the ball it was weirdest advantage i ever seen in football history.

The ref dominated midfield, set up intrivate passes with thrusting energy. Don't even get me started on the ball the ref played through to himself that the he then buried to win the game.

I’m Dutch and definitely no penalty but in the end we didn’t score, we just don’t have that good players (strikers) to make a difference!

How is it not a penalty? Defender went in, studs up, didn't touch the ball, and made contact with the opponent. Please, explain why that's not a penalty

​@@jamieisausernameThe shot was already taken and wasn't hindered by the contact by Dumfries that came in Kane's follow through. There is no doubt contact but Kane already took the shot so there shouldn't have been a foul.

@@jamieisausername There's obviously contact, even a blind man knows there's contact. But the ball had completely left Kane's foot before the contact was made, therefore the contact had no impact on the play and therefore shouldn't be a penalty. By definiton, they are also kicking eachother, not just Dumfries kicking Kane. Micromanaging football with Var and changing what was just a shot over the bar into a penalty is why people get fed up with it.

i never saw a decission like this in the past 40 years of my football career. Big mistake of the ref with huge consequences, unacceptable imo ... uefa maffia

like the penalty from england gets against denmark in the semi final 2021 ..and that was also the (dutch) VAR who take a unbelieveable decision ..i have the feeling the they are all egotrippers behind the screen and wants to be famous by this kind of stupid decisions, who destroys real foorball ..the ref didn't react here after the kick of Kane it was the VAR again ..

These are the standards of reporters these days. 🤷🏿‍♂️
