Matagalpa, Nicaragua
Matagalpa (Spanish pronunciation: [mataˈɣalpa]) is a city in Nicaragua which is the capital of the department of Matagalpa. The city has a population of 109,824 (2020 estimate), while the population of the department is 593,503. Matagalpa is Nicaragua's seventh largest city, the largest in the country's interior, and one of the most commercially active outside of Managua. Matagalpa is the 4th most important city in Nicaragua and is known as the "Pearl of the North" and "Land of Eternal Spring."
According to Jeronimo Perez, a historian who visited this area in 1855-1856 the name Matagalpa means Cabeza Principal (Main Head) or Pueblo Grande (Big Town) from the Matagalpa indigenous language words: Maika=Head, Calpul* Town- But according to the Matagalpan linguist father Guillermo Kiene, a Catholic priest and missionary who lived from 1898 to 1959, the word Matagalpa comes from the Sumo language, and means "let's go where the rocks are."
There have been other descriptions of the word Matagalpa: -Here next to the water, and -Among Mountains ( "Aquí junto al agua" y "Entre Montañas"). These descriptions are believed to be related to the geographic location of the city, which is next to the Grand River of Matagalpa, and also surrounded by mountains.

Soy originario de la Costa Atlántica de Guatemala y hace 12 años aproximadamente estuve en la ciudad de Matagalpa por una semana, a pesar de haber pasado poco tiempo por ahí le tomé mucho cariño a la ciudad. Veo que a nivel de infraestructura ha mejorado enormemente. Abrazos hasta la hermana república Nica.

Great Video ! I went down to Matagalpa city for 2-3 weeks each year from 2005 until 2014. going to retire in the winters there soon. I can't wait as it is such a safe interesting place to be , fresh air and the people are so nice !

WOW Hermoso y que buenas tomas. Debería de darnos vergüenza los que vivimos en Managua que siendo la capital no se mantiene tan limpia y ordenada como esas ciudades.

@Matias D.C Si es cierto, pero hay ciudades que si tiene un problema mas grave que otras en el ámbito urbano y Managua es una de ellas, Una ciudad desordenada no tiene que ver con la cantidad de población y tampoco tiene que ser necesariamente caótica, si no más bien la calidad de una ciudad mayormente se da por las buenas gestiones municipal de cada una. Entendí tu punto pero mi comentario iba hacia lo bueno que quedo el video y recordar que en Managua debemos ser mas ordenados y aseados y dar una mejor imagen como representante de la capital del país.

Most of the country is a complete dump. It is truly tragic what humans have done to this magical landscape.
Is Matagalpa as nice as Cuenca or Loja, Ecuador?. It looks less developed. Has anyone been to two or three of the cities I listed?. 😊

I guess if there's a lot of traffic you could get pretty stuck. Not a lot of room for double parking. Could a fire truck or ambulance get through?
