I got the 2021 after the 2020 because I wanted the more vintage style head (even though I do like the 2020 head), but I actually ended up returning the 2021 because the the expression is kind of a meek smile that’s neither intimidating nor evil, but more shy than anything else. That plus the fact that it doesn’t have the same kind of face paint as the vintage kind of made me feel like it was a bit of a miss. I don’t understand the decision behind it, because fans wanted a vintage style head after receiving the 2020, and they basically closed his mouth, gave him a smile, and took the face paint off (which is a strange decision since both the vintage and the 2020 has the face paint), thus achieving something different from the vintage. It’s a shame, because I thought the 2021 he-man with the vintage head got it right. The whole deal that makes Origins great for me is that they maintain the aesthetic of the vintage figures while giving them more articulation, so it is strange that they would alter the design of any character, let alone the main 2 characters. Anyway, I’m glad that people have choices, but I do wish that Mattel provided accessory packs that included heads, and I believe that is what fans asked for, but yeah, why would they do that when they can make more figures for fans to buy. I do like the Keldor Skeletor head, and while I like the ruby eyes, they are a little gimmicky to have on my main skeletor all the time, but fine as an alternate.

Great write up and a lot of awesome points. I for one am tired of buying the same figure over and over again, so I really liked the different face of the 2020. The battle armour He-Man and Skeletor come with extra heads which I think is a great idea and I also agree with you on the accessory packs (I think I mention it in this video?) But to your point they are a business and can easily sell a whole new figure with a slightly different expression.

@@JayBartlett1975 I totally get where you're coming from with regards to not wanting to buy the same figure over and over. My collecting is primarily nostalgia driven, so I see Origins as my ultimate version of MOTU, all the original aesthetic that I want, with all the articulation that was missing from the vintage, so I actually like the idea of getting the same figures... but I think that just comes down to the individual. I do however appreciate the modern alternative, both He-mans and Skeletor's 2020 heads, but for me they are secondary to the vintage style. You did mention accessory packs in the video. I should have said that you already mentioned that, and that I was in agreement. Great video btw.

I've always loved the amount of detail in the MOTU lines, I like it without guard but wish it could be combined. Both sculpts look great to me, very cool. I do like the 2020 version just because it's a new face. Good luck on finding the Battle armor Skeletor.

I like the 2020 head. It looks like he's screaming or pissed off. He looks more evil than the other revised 2021 head

I actually just bought the 2021 Vintage headed He-man and Skeletor Figures this morning online after buying Faker and Evil lyn the other day at the local store, just waiting for them the ship now lol I havent had any He-man figures in my life since I was a Child so I wanted to get these guys on the shelf to look back at and reminice on also so when my Buddy and his kids are able to come visit again they can have something to play with that they might enjoy if they don't bring anything with them.

That's a fantastic story mate and isn't it amazing that these figures can bring us back to a more simple time and fill our hearts with such joy. He-Man was such and still is I should say such a big part of my life today. Thanks for sharing

I prefer the half sword personally because the pegged side doesn't bother me that much and I find that the combine gimmick is really cool. As for the headsculpt, I like the 2020 version because I feel like that shouting expression captures Skeletor's personality pretty well (at least for the Filmation show, the '21 one might represent other more serious Skeletors like MYP better)

My only issue with the open mouth head, is that they screwed up the paint job from the prototype and I don’t know why they screwed that up …the prototype face paint looked great and the eyes looked precisely done

I didn't have the original vintage, so I'll choose the 2nd version of the origins... However, the problem is that I couldn't get the 2nd version as all were sold out, so I picked the 1st version, then recently I grabbed the terror claws deluxe version, I head swapped with my 1st version body with the 'grinning' head... Perfect, I'm feeling some nostalgia with it, only downside that it didn't have the full sword on the deluxe terror claws version.... Oh well, at least I have both the 1st and 2nd versions of heads to swap whenever I like it, that's my opinion 👍 (same thing I did with He-man as well with the 1st version and flying fists deluxe version that is)

I'm glad you were able to piece together a Skeletor that you really liked. Origins is on the same level of quality as the originals for sure

I like how you changed the theme, when you started putting the Skeletor figures head-to-head. Just wanna ask. Why is the drawing at the back, shows the origins normal head with 3-body-way movement, while the vintage head shows 2 ?! I'm surprised to see the vintage smaller? I always thought that the vintage were a bit bigger than the origins line-up?

The armor color/finish and sword color/finish are notably different, its visible in the video of course. I was surprised you skipped over all that in the dialog.

I definitely prefer the 2020 version. The sword guard allows one to pose Skeletor with the sword in his open left hand, so he can weild both the sword and staff at the same time. Also, I just love how expressive the 2020 face is. The toy just makes me smile because Skeletor looks so joyous.

Did you buy the new Skeletor off shelf or order online? I don't think I've seen the new head on Big Bad Toy Store, but for all I know, that's the head (and full sword) I'd get if I ordered Skeletor from them today. I'm just curious.

At first I was excited about the possibility of a true vintage look for the 2021 head, but when I saw that it was just the alternate head that came with the Deluxe Battle Armor Skeletor I was disappointed. I wish Mattel would've at least painted it a little different.

Well said. I suppose they are trying to give the fans what they want considering so many complained about the 2020 open mouth head. I loved it, and loved that it was different than the 1982 version

Is the 2021 head the same as the 2021 deluxe version that comes with 2 heads?

It looks kinda close. I don't have the Battle Armour Skeletor but the images look comparable. One head is a smile it looks like and the other is a frown.

I like the new head! Heck...I like the old head too. What-If they packed a "Max Headroom" Head on the Next Skelator origins figure.....!?
