"We are marionettes . . . by strings animated, yet like lovers, of strings liberated" Like many others, just heard this band about a year ago. Never get tired of their songs. Marko is one of the best vocalists I have ever heard. His classical voice training really shines.

This song is in the game Control, where it's being studied as that game's equivalent of an SCP.

The "controlled" @7:33 was fitting, be it intentional or not. The game Control is a journey in its own right, and Poets of the Fall have been tightly intertwined with the creators of the game (Remedy Entertainment) ever since Max Payne 2, where a single from the band's debut album appeared. Masters of storytelling, thank you for diving deeper into their creations! :)

The biggest visual connection to the game Control in the music video is the red bakelite phone, the Hotline.

When I first heard Marko voice in 2019 I became obsessed with P0TF and sent away to Backstage Rock Shop for 2 copies of every one of their CDs. I love every song on all of them. My favorite band of all tome

My Dark Disquiet was my very first Poets song, I immediately fell in love with it 🖤 Thank you for the wonderful videos about this band, it's so nice to see that you like their work, to hear your interesting analyzes and opinions. I hope to see more of their work on your channel, this band deserves love and attention, unfortunately, they are very underestimated. I can recommend their videos "Daze" and "Requiem for my Harlequin", as well as the song "Angel" from Alexander Theater Sessions (it's acoustic, and incredibly beautiful).

I think lift was my first touch to this band and then hearing late goodbye while playing max payne.. oh man, I have loved this band since I heard Marko's voice for the first time. All their songs are just amazing and love the lyrics too

Funny you mention putting people into a trance When you find this song in the game, it's in the Audio-Sensory Lab and it plays on two massive speakers on the wall inside a padded room that only has one chair in the middle of the room that faces the speakers and the lyrics are sprawled all across a blackboard in a smaller observatory room outside it...

This song was used in the game Control from 2019, and a lot of the lyrics can be also understood as a reference to the story, the part about separated brothers, and the marionettes on strings, mentions of duality, race of two, and more. They did make songs exclusively for Remedy Entertainment games (makers of Control, the director is the lead singer's childhood friend and they've been collaborating for 20 years now) so a lot could be that.

I also get a kind of James Bond vibe from the song, that is as presented in the music video, as if Marko is the evil arch nemesis that Bond has to face and overcome in the end. For now, Marko's character is on top the world; but he knows it's fleeting. He understands human nature and the true nature of our relationship to others and our place in the universe, and in relation to our Creator. So for now, he will revel in his false autonomy and sovereignty, and do pretty much whatever his evil inclinations lead him to.

Poets of the Fall were a revelation when I found them after they contributed a song to the closing credits of Max Payne 2 PC game. I absolutely love them.

I just found out that this song was written for the Remedy video game called CONTROL. 2019. LAtE GOODBYE was written for Max Payne video years ago

I'm not sure if it was written for the game specifically, but it might have been. Or it could have been a homage to it, and was just added as an easter egg. Their song "Take Control" was written for the game specifically though.

Something to have in mind about this song, is that it was made for the game control, so having that in mind a lot of the lyrics and imagenery used in the video makes more sense -

Great suggestions. My Alexander Theater Sessions CD is one of my prize possessions Angel is so so beautiful but I love every acoustic song on it.

Amazing song on ULTRAVIOLET album. ANGEL song is a MASTERPIECE Sweet Escape, Dancing On Broken Glass, False Kings. just a few of my very favorites on this 2018 album.

Your probably right . Wiki said October 5 2018 but they could be wrong. I ordered all their albums at once from Finland Backstage Rock Shop in 2019. I felt like I was in Music Disneyland listening to so many incredible songs .I loved every song on every album ❤️. I think it was 8 albums. CAUSE Alexander Theater sessions ( all acoustic versions) came out later.

Excellent song and a brilliant band.

Is there such a thing as a lyric baritone that's who Maarko Saaresto reminds me . A voice with authority that can mesmerisze.

Definitely "Choice millionaire", 'angel', 'sweet escape", 'heroes and villains'

Lyrically my favourite poets of the fall song is one called 'The Game' which has some of their absolute best wordplay, however most people seem to completely look over it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you're looking to review more Poets songs in future.

POTF are Finnish yes, but not Scandinavian. Nordic to be precise ;)

PotF has a bit of a different base style going on for some of their albums. If you dont have them on your list yet, I would recommend Miss Impossible and especially Psychosis from their Revolution Roulette album, where they have a bit more of a rock/hard rock style going on.

You need to do the songs Daze and War from them. I just love those sonds!🥰
