Steve Maxwell (www.maxwellsc.com) is a real life nomad, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor and strength and conditioning expert.
As one of the first wave of Americans to be taught Jiu-Jitsu by the Gracie family the now 62 year young Steve has coached some of the best athletes in the world. He was also one of the original investors in the UFC, is good friends with a hero of ours UFC commentator Joe Rogan, and has been interviewed on his show 'The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast' multiple times.
We were fortunate to also have the pleasure of interviewing and working with the legend on one of his recent visits to London.
Big thanks to Steve and much love to Teresa for her organisation!

Steve’s no nonsense honest approach is a great argument. It’s great to have him here because he’s seen or done everything, now we can take all that information that’s been honed and purified by his decades of trial and error . we can now use it to our advantage to avoid injury or hype

I have never been a physical athlete per se, but I spent years in the US Military and got some good training including some martial arts. Now in my 50s, I still work on my feet nearly everyday and ride a bicycle to and from the job. I see millenials who struggle to even get started up a moderate hill on better bicycles than I have. I also sometimes see guys with 10 years on me passing me up. I practice falling from time to time just like in this yt if not a bit faster. This fitness mindset has saved me from potentially serious injuries on multiple occasions. I'm kinda amazed that guys who were tougher and stronger than me once upon a time are now the ones who struggle to go out and do active things. I didn't plan out any big fitness strategy, nor do I have a scheduled fitness routine. I simply practice being fit - taking stairs when others take the elevator; walk when others drive; play on the bars if I pass a playground, etc. Somewhere in American culture we have glorified laziness to the point where a fitness mindset results in being the oddball (except for the organized activities) Well, I'm content to be the oddball without a fitness club. I am really excited to see someone like Steve Maxwell share his philosophy here. I would like to help motivate folks the way he does, so this is for anyone on the fence - it doesnt take athletic accomplishment. What it takes is mindset. We were created to move, to breath and exert ourselves (in moderation). It isn't about goals to satisfy the ego. It's simply about living. It's like the old phrase: use it or lose it.

i agree with everything except for the bit on "urban gymnastics." i'm a believer that if you do parkour without ego it can really be the best thing for a person. as a professional parkour coach, none of my students have problems with their joints, and all of them have gotten massive amounts of strength, coordination, and confidence from training with me. the only thing i can assume is that he has limited experience with talented traceurs that do it right.
