In this squash coaching video, I dissect the mechanics of the backhand drop shot. Using slow-motion analysis and side-by-side comparisons, I reveal the subtle yet crucial differences that can elevate your game. Whether you're a novice or an experienced player, this tutorial offers a deep dive into mastering one of the most challenging shots in squash.
🎯 Main Takeaways from a Coaching Perspective:
🕒 Timing & Contact Point: Understanding the ideal moment for making contact with the ball is crucial. Both myself and the student demonstrate similar timing, but slight adjustments can make a world of difference.
🏸 Swing Shape & Options: A well-shaped swing not only adds finesse to your shot but also keeps your opponent guessing. A flat swing limits your options and makes you more predictable.
🤏 Follow Through & Control: A clean and open follow-through ensures that the ball goes exactly where you intend it to. Any unnecessary wrist movement can ruin the shot.
🦵 Body & Foot Positioning: Working the legs and getting your hips down can significantly improve your shot's accuracy and power. Footwork, especially the back foot slide, plays a pivotal role in this.
🔄 Exit & Court Coverage: Staying crouched during your exit makes you multi-directional, allowing you to cover the court more effectively.

2 things additionally: 1) like on your forehand drop your racquet face is facing the front wall 2) your wrist is more cocked throughout the swing vs the student’s is “broken” or dropped Fwiw
