This plant, Hylocereus Cactus, has flowers that open only at night, and is native to Southern Mexico and Central America - but now its grown all over the world, and is also known as pitaya or strawberry pear. It is named so, because the fruits resemble a dragon! In India, both red pulp and white pulp dragonfruit are grown, although the white pulp one is more common.
The great thing about dragonfruit is that it requires very little water since it is a cactus. And can be grown organically with ease, if some basics are taken care of. What are those basics ? Watch this video to learn from a couple who has been cultivating dragonfruit in Bangalore outskirts, without using any chemicals.

I have seen people limit the fruit per stem to 3 or 4, but they were saying that many buds DIE OFF before they open as flowers. They showed the buds going yellow and said the plant will eventually drop them off dead but to save wasted energy on a flower that dies before opening, they pull them off as soon as the first yellow shows. And if there's still more than 4, they pull a few more off, usually the smallest ones.

Actually almost all cacti DO FRUIT but not every year and often small to tiny fruits. Except peruvian apple which generally fruits yearly and is a reasonable size. It's a smooth skinned fruit with insides similar to dragonfruit.

Thank for the great information you provided; this is great. Beside the business aspect, I love the idea of having more access to a wide variety of fruit. I am viewing from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Your fruit orchard looks great, I believe the other fruit tree are sapodilla. Great video and thank you once more for sharing this knowledge. Could 2-inch pvc be used instead of wooden or concrete post?

yes you can. But only concern is the pipes shouldn't bend under the weight of the plant. Also - they should be stable and fixed properly. Stone slabs are heavy and have stability

There's a high chance the end will start rotting and instead of forming roots, you just get rotten stem underground. This is WELL known and goes for ALL cacti.

They take 4 years to grow to full sized. If you get a fruit with the skin tags purple completely instead of green ends, you can grow them from seed by just sitting them on water in the sun in a glass. In 3 days they'll sprout and you pull them out with tweezers to plant them. But they need to be kept mold free, preferably with the copper spray. Or air flow in a humid environment instead of inside a container like most cacti are sprouted. I have over 200 seedlings right now.
