Wow…over forty five years ago when I was learning to balance the chemical equations in my Biology class, I either wasn’t paying attention, was too dumb, or the teacher wasn’t effective. I think I am more a late bloomer. Thank you for making it so easy to understand.

I teach chemistry. It takes both sides to learn... A good teacher and willing student. Many times you have a willing student but an ineffective teacher. Other times you have a good teacher but unwilling student. The times where both are on the same page makes teaching magical. The key to balancing equations is practice, practice, practice.

@@MathAndScience Now it’s second nature to you. I presume you continued to press on towards the subsequent chemistry classes and, thus, had to get proficient with balancing the chemical equations in a timely manner. Much respect to you for sharing your knowledge.

@@ivangamez9773 I can definitely see the magic when the teachers and the students are on the same page. Just from my personal experience, I think it’s important to emphasize to the students, who may be from various backgrounds, certain “absolute truths” of the physical science. For example, I was a recent migrant to the United States from a developing nation when we touched upon chemistry in my High School biology class, and I was dogmatically caught up questioning the validity of the atomic structure and theory, instead of paying attention to the information presented. It wasn’t until I pursued a course in electronic technology at a trade school where I was creating circuits on a breadboard, when things clicked in, and I came to understand the importance accepting the “givens” and move on.

Thanks again for a great lesson. This was explained beautifully, enjoyed it. I love your technique of rewriting the equation to see where the changes were made.
