Why are dip pens popular among artists when we have many modern alternatives? Dip pens are very responsive to pressure and are a fun tool for different line weights, helping you create striking drawings. Have you used dip pens before? What have you learnt that others could benefit from?
Blessings to my screen for being graced with such high-quality and entertaining content.

Thanks so much!
My first dip pen was a really battered old one covered in dried up ink from my grandfather that somehow ended up with my mom’s art supplies and then I “borrowed it” to try it. I gave up pretty quickly when it didn’t work properly😂 then we moved house after a few years and it turned up again while we were unpacking. Thought I’d give it another go but this time, I soaked it in rubbing alcohol for days and cleaned it until it looked brand new! I also bought myself some acrylic ink because my mom’s inks had gone bad. I still use it even now. It’s honestly one of my favourite nibs and definitely my favourite nib holder! The nib has a little bit of flex but is a lot stiffer than the rest of my nibs so it’s great for fine details and shakey hand days where I need to put more pressure to avoid wobbly lines 😂❤️
Thank you for all the useful information!

I love using dip pens, it helps me draw more loosely, I like to add watercolor afterwards, what paper would you recomend for this. thank you

I would recomend smooth bristol paper or hot press watercolour paper. They both work well with dip pens. :)
And you get to choose your ink with dip pens. I use Higgins India ink because it’s waterproof and dark. Way better than Speedball

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have to try it.
Question for you: I have W&N Indian Ink, does the ink ever get too think or dry out too much, how do you manage this?

I find that if my ink has dried it's probably because I did not screw on the cap properly. Or the cap was full with dried ink and did not close properly - try giving your cap a rise sometimes. Other than that, ink has a shelf life as well, if left unused, it gets thick and gunky.
I don’t draw but I use dip pens when I write. I use a Pilot iro-utsushi dip pen with a medium writing nib. I don’t know why but it’s just hilariously fun to write with a dip pen. 🤣😁

Dip pens are more challenging to work with. For me, I guess that's part of the charm.
