I have two problems with this tutorial: 1) at numerous points you enable or disable settings, but without a meaningful explanation of why; 2) at points I feel you are hustling past settings without explaining what they really are. It gives me the impression that you don't yourself know the setting or feature well enough to properly describe it. I recognize that cameras like this is are complex and feature rich, so it's not surprising that there's stuff you don't know. Your options at that point are to be familiar with the manual before making the video, or to say you don't really know that feature well enough to suggest anything other than leaving it at its default. This video isn't any different from numerous others like it, that do a menu walk through skimming over the surface. (Another example is Jared Polin's walkthrough of the same camera.) Another option is to thoroughly familiarize yourself with *one* aspect of the camera's operation (focusing, metering, automatic focus, special features [focus bracketing, time lapse, preshooting buffer], whatever) and make a video on that. Spend the time and you'd have a really useful and comprehensive series of videos on the camera. My $0.02 worth.

I appreciate your opinion, my friend, and thank you for taking the time to express yourself in a respectful way. That being said, I will take more time and make a greater effort to go into deeper details with my menu walk-throughs. My concern is that people will become disinterested if I take too long. Now, I see that this is counter-productive and gives a poor impression of my knowledge base. And I like your idea of the comprehensive breakdown of the different systems. I may implement this in my Sony a7rV video.

@@GetOutArizona That's great. It would be a great alternative to quickie menu walk-throughs of cameras (of which there are many for all popular camera models already).

@@GetOutArizona You have a pleasing voice, whereas most people who do these types of videos are "behind the camera" for a reason, and are really hard to watch. That said, as a newbie, this video confuses me in a bunch of ways. I just reset all of the settings after goofing up so much that I couldn't figure out how to fix my mistakes. One big first question I have is whether there is an "undo" function for when you accidentally change a setting. I would actually welcome a video that shows one how to "undo" things - I messed with the diopter, and now I want to make sure it's back to its default position, but I have no idea how to do that, unless I assume that I have perfect eyesight (not true) and just guess. I stopped watching this video, and watched your video about what all the physical dials do - that helped a bit, and that's where a newbie should start, I think. I can only speak for myself, but I bought the camera mainly for video, so for me what would be incredibly helpful would be a video about the video settings, what they do, and what settings will work well for someone who is just starting out. A couple things I'm working out right now (with some difficulty) are figuring out how to make the camera let me manually focus (preferably by default - note that I'm using a 50mm lens that doesn't have an MF/AF switch), trying to figure out all the different autofocus settings, and trying to figure out what it automatically sets shutter speeds at (or if I need to switch that). I want to shoot 4K60 whenever I can, and I find it confusing that it only seems to let me select a shutter speed of 1/125, not 1/120. I'm thinking I don't want to let the camera do this automatically, unless it always sets it at 1/120(1/125???) for 60fps, in which case "auto" is a bit of a misnomer. In order to be able to take my camera out and actually shoot decent video without continual unwelcome surprises, I'm thinking I probably want to set custom modes, but maybe not(?), and it's hard to figure out where to begin with that. I know I can't expect someone to explain how to be a videographer in a single video (unless it's 800 hours long), but a "how to get started" type of video would be great. I'm finding that a lot of (maybe all) autofocus modes are pretty much useless for video, although that may be because I'm doing something wrong. Anyway, I guess my main point is that I don't think that it's possible to cover all of the menu settings of the R8 for both photo and video in a reasonably-sized video, so I'd suggest making videos that are focused on particular subjects, and give guidance as to which ones should be watched first. A video about the photo settings of the R8 that is targeted at experienced photographers will be useless to a beginner who wants to use it for video, and an overly-broad video trying to explain everything about the camera is doomed to be deficient in the same way that a video about "how to fix a Prius" would be deficient. On a somewhat related subject, I think that everyone who shoots 4K60 on the R8 wants to know if there are good workarounds for the crippling overheating and battery issues inherent to the R8's design. Trying to figure out if there is any dummy battery that will plug into a power bank (rather than a wall outlet) without frying the camera has been a huge headache. Canon sells a dummy battery, but gives no details about it other than a single picture and "it can be used with (model number) power adapter," which adapter can only be plugged into an AC power outlet. Ugh. Well that turned into a long comment, but boy do they make it complicated! It seems like you pretty much have to program the camera yourself and figure out all the workarounds yourself, insofar as this camera is concerned - I've found Canon's support to be unhelpful to say the least.

I don’t like you talking so much about Sony, whilst you are making Canon tutorial It feels wrong even if your explanations are clear and precise

Thank you, but this is not a full tutorial. It should be call ¨How I use the R8.¨There is no full tutorial¨ on KZread. If you were able to make a long video explaining everything it will get many views.
