    It’s common to not hear 8000Hz as well with lower frequencies. It’s been proven as we age, high frequencies like 8000 are the first ones to dip. Glad you found this helpful. No problem! 😁

    @@HearingClubAs someone who has had Ménière’s not just in one ear but bilaterally I saw my hearing go from good to bad in about 8 years or less. Now for past two years it seems stable where my hearing is. Not anywhere near normal at any frequency but definitely drops like a Cliff from 3500-8000. Down to the severe to almost profound range in the highs. I have Oticon OpNs2 and I hear but word recognition is a huge problem. Is it because these aids can’t be programmed to hear those frequencies in that range? Maybe no aid can? When do I know that not any aid is going to get me more word recognition and I’m looking at a cochlear implant? The last thing I want. Hearing test there is 75% word recognition in right ear and only 40% in the left ear.

    I recently had surgery to get a cochlear implant done, and my audiologist tested me a few weeks back, and I'm back into the normal hearing range. Modern technology is awesome. I'm watching and listening to this video without closed captions. My hearing loss before surgery was in the profound hearing loss range.

    Thank You so much for this excellent explanation! I've been wearing hearing aids for about eight years and neither of the audiologists took the time to explain this to me. Last week I went to the VA to have a hearing evaluation and the audiologist there gave me some of this information. Turns out my hearing loss is now in the moderate to severe level. She suggested i use hearing aids with the custom molded ear plug so that's what we're going to try.

    @@HearingClub -- I've been using the custom mold with behind the ear hearing aids for about two months now. They do allow more amplification at the higher frequencies so that does help. The Starkey hearing aids have a noise and wind reduction settings for the programmed gain profiles. I would have thought the noise and wind reduction techniques/algorithms would work to cancel out or reduce the noise and wind being picked up but instead it reduces the volume for all frequencies. As an example, if I'm driving in the car, with the windows closed, the road noise is enough that the volume drops down an I cannot hear the radio at all. I would have to increase the volume of the radio to a intense level to the point I would be better off without these hearing aids. For now I have been using a program selection that minimizes the noise and wind reduction algorithms.

    Wonderful explanation! Thank you so much! I will print out the illustration chart and show my parents. My Dad and my Mom do hear me, but sometimes they reply to me strangely. I always wonder if it's cognition issues coming with aging. Now I think it's probably more a matter of "Can you pass that dish" turns into "We don't have any fish" problem.😝😅 Thank you very much again. ❤

  • @HearingClub

    9 ай бұрын

    You are welcome. Some of the hearing aid sales people can be very pushy. Make sure you DO NOT get hearing aids if you feel like you are being pressured. It should be relaxing and you should be able to ask whatever questions you want. OTC aids can work if you have a mild to moderate loss. And if they don't work or you don't like them, take them back. I'm working on a video that will tell you what to look for in an OTC Hearing Aid. 2 good places to get OTC are best buy and amazon. Both places have a great return policy. Start there.

    @@HearingClub An exam says mild to moderate in part of the high range. The audiologist said I can't do OTC but I've done research that disagrees so I ordered Jabra 200 with 100 day trial. I don't trust that particular audiologist but won't hold it against the profession. I feel confident after learning from you about test results plus the generous return policy.

  • @HearingClub

    @HearingClub

    10 ай бұрын

    So one thing about this channel is I'm not a Dr or audiologist. I try to stay in my own lane and disorders are out of my scope. The only thing I'm allowed to say is whether or not your audiogram indicates a SNHL, a conductive loss or a mixed loss. If your audiogram indicates a conductive loss, we refer you to an ent or specialist so they can find out if you have a disorder or condition.

    One real hearing aid in the ear that still works, one fake hearing aid with a microphone on the side of the dead ear. The microphone on the fake, dead side picks up sound from that side and sends it to the ear that still hears.

    I'm not just hard of hearing, I have vaccine-induced nerve deafness. I hear 250hz (L/R) 20/15. It drops to 50/35 at 500hz, then 70/75 at 1K to 2K, then 100/100 at 4K to 8K. I've been through two disasters where the fitter thinks he could flatten the line, which phenomenally raises the amplitude so high that it overwhelms anything that I could have otherwise heard unassisted. Is there a model where I, the user, can adjust the level of assist at each frequency band as if I were compensating the music by sliding the buttons on my equalizer?

    I am within normal hearing range... The doctor had sent me for audiometry suspecting sudden unilateral hearing loss.. But the results came back as both ear within normal range with the left ear slightly weaker than right ( within normal range )... Right ear all the plots are between 0-10 and left ear lower frequency around 10 and higher frequency between 10 and below 20..Doctor said it's fine and steroids and antibiotics should do... Audiometrist said I should follow up after 3-6 months.
