Masterclasse Promotion V - Mai 2019
La Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle, créée et dirigée par Gautier Capuçon, est un projet de transmission destiné à une promotion de six jeunes violoncellistes de talent venant du monde entier, sélectionnés sur audition. Sous forme de séances de coaching artistique et professionnel, elle offre aux élèves la possibilité d'approfondir leur connaissance du travail musical et d’appréhender les enjeux d’une carrière de musicien professionnel.
Pour la cinquième saison, la Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle réinvestit l’auditorium de la Fondation Louis Vuitton pour des masterclasses et des concerts mensuels.

The Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle created and led by Gautier Capuçon, is geared towards six young talented cellists from all over the world selected on live audition. Made up of a series of artistic and professional coaching, it offers participants a comprehensive training opportunity intended to complement participants’ formal musical education, under the guidance of Gautier Capuçon.
For its fifth season, the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle returns to the Fondation Louis Vuitton auditorium, featuring a series of monthly masterclasses and concerts.

What M. Capucon is saying about keeping the bow in the string during piano passages is a big secret given away which will save young players years of struggle. In other words the sustaining power of the sound, even in soft passages can't be let go and you always have a sense that the bow arm is pulling the sound, but with less pressure. Like a miniature replica of forte. Of course, there are other effects, like portato and flautando that do require less pressure, but as a basic technique, this in my opinion is gold.

Capucon‘s teaching is really great! He talks about also uncomfortable things like intonation and also he is very persistent. I hope he doubles the amount of teaching.. of course the world also needs him as a soloist!
