In my utmost humble opinion. “ Nothing more rewarding than getting ones thesis validated by those who exceeds oneself in excellence “ “ Many rivers from the same source flows” “ Wisdom equates to correct comprehended knowledge appropriately applied” The similarities between Wing Chun and BJJ/ Grappling/Judo is indeed blatantly observable as well as synergistically in its amalgamation, as the concepts of: Base/ posture/ connection/ energy( Ref Matt Thornton SBG Portland)transcends both systems, so when combined they’ll enhance each other’s attributes. What few realize is that Zhuei Jiao( Chinese wrestling) share many similarities with judo, and Wing Chun has indeed many standing takedowns( even throws) that are an integral part of the overall curriculum especially in regards to the stances/ footwork, as the main goal was to close distance with the handfighting, maintain structural integrity and impeccable balance, get a dominant angle while maintaining forward pressure, take your opponent down and end him( usually with weaponry) the origins of the systems, all have weapons as an integral part as it was applied with battlefield tactics in mind. This is also why Zhuei Jiao competitions end when ones opponent hits the ground while you remain standing, because he will not be allowed to stand up again alive in an real life altercation/ ie battlefield context. Same tactics are applied at the highest level in the UFC as well, so these have indeed stood the test of time, and should be integrated into one’s overall arsenal by every devout martial artist that seeks to deem themselves capable. Sincere appreciations for enabling all of us to observe and learn from such a fellow peer as yourself. Fellow Martial Artist. Tom Framnes. Norway.
