I am so impressed that you have notebooks with "recipes" for your journals. That never occurred to me! But, I mostly fly by the seat of my pants. Ha! But, these folding patterns, and your formula, while I do them, having actual plans for them is brilliant. This was a really helpful video, even for seasoned journal makers. Thanks so much, Kathleen!

@@janetgeist8505 Thank you Janet! That makes me glad.
This is just the video I needed today🌻 I don’t know why mixing in paper sizes is such a challenge for me. Everything is symmetrical, folded exactly in half, edges trimmed neatly. Your signatures are so much more dynamic ❤️

New subbie here. I’ve been making junk journals for years and I’m finding everything you do here (I’ve been binging all week) so inspiring and fresh. I love the way you break it down and make it all so clear. I took a break from making journals for a few months and I just assembled a new journal that I plan to decorate with all of your fun ideas. Thank you for your amazing inspiration.😍🌻👍

Kathleen, it was fascinating to watch you put the pages together for the signatures. I had to laugh when I saw your on-screen "...don't mind my muttering." I do that! Somehow it helps me get things clear in my mind. This journal is working out to be so pretty. I don't remember if you intended it to be a fall journal or not, but the soft blues and the oranges look very much like autumn to me. I'm loving it. Thanks for all the tips and tricks that you shared. I truly appreciate your teaching; it is very helpful. You probably notice I've picked up ideas that I learned from you, such as stenciling with a scroll stencil. It adds such a pretty accent. I'm looking forward to Monday to find out what the surprise is in the paper tied with string.

Thank you Linda! BTW, the video was an hour long, thanks to my muttering and indecision. Maybe you noticed all the cuts, haha. The journal is not particularly autumn, but it also reminds me of this soft season. The leaves are starting to turn here and things are drying up, but the blue sky and the golden light is spectacular.

Hi Kathleen! What is your rule of thumb for cutting your signatures to fit in your journal?
@BeAgainBooks
8 ай бұрын
Terry - I always choose a cover before I make signatures, so the paper gets trimmed based on the size of the cover. I don’t always decorate the cover, but I usually know the size. If, for some reason, I don’t have a cover chosen ahead of time, it would be because I’m using an unusual or special paper. If that happens, everything else is cut to fit around that. Maybe I’ve misunderstood your question. If that’s the case please ask again. Thanks so much for watching and for reaching out.
Hi Kathleen! I also have some reader digests books that I could use for a journal. What size did you make your signatures for that particular journal series? My general question is do you generally leave a 1/2” shorter signature pages than journal cover? Does my question make sense? Thank you
@BeAgainBooks
8 ай бұрын
Ohhh! I do not leave that much room. On a very large book (it seems to me) that might work, but I think 1/4” would be as much as I would go - at least the top and bottom measurement. I often use the end paper as a guide, especially in the Reader’s Digest cover. It is usually just a little less that 1/4”. I may cut a little more off on the opening edge, depending on what I might want to hang over the right edge, right? But I can always trim off later if I have a large fabric ruffle or large tabs. but that would be a personal preference. In general, for a Reader’s Digest journal, I usually trim the regular papers at 7 1/4” by 10 1/2” and then fold. Thanks for making your question more clear for me - Covid brain is real, haha.
