Master Cutting the World Famous 110 ct RED SPINEL by Vlad Yavorskyy
yavorskyy.com
The story of this rare vibrant pinkish-red stone gracing the cover of Terra Spinel Book began 17 years ago in the Pamir Mountains, where it was found at the legendary Kuh-i-Lal mine - home to the world's most celebrated royal jewels, from the great Mughals to the Maharajas, the magnificent red spinels and diamonds sparkling in the center of the Crown Jewels in the largest kingdoms until now. The original crystal polished out of the 160-carat rough was a masterpiece in itself, a belated young brother of the Black Prince's Ruby from the British Crown.
But a born cutter simply cannot help cutting. He can sit still for a long while, cherishing the rough as it is... but at a certain point he will not resist to unveil the soul of the gem, to let it flicker with all its facets, revealing its maximum color, brilliance and life.
A treasure unparalleled in the contemporary human history, kept sacred and untouched for 15 years, is finally to be transformed into a sensational faceted gem... right in front of your eyes!

MAGNIFICENT NATURAL RED SPINEL 35.55 cts
Natural Red Spinel Crystal acquired in Kuh-i-Lal mine (Badakhshan, Pamir mountains) 15 years ago
The Gem from the cover of Terra Spinel book
We hope to make 50 cts emerald shape gem
Placing the table, locating the big facets
260 diamond wheel, water, let's get started!
Now we are coming to the outlines of emerald cut
We can clearly see an imperfection, let's try to get rid of it
We want our future Gemstone to be perfectly clean
Now can see the bottom, four major sides
Really beautiful stone, good color
I love this job!
It's exciting, risky, but always based on good luck
Still need to add more corners, make an elongated shape
Now we are placing the table and reaching the final step of preforming (preshaping)
Our gem polisher will do the final polishing
Superb Red Spinel!
Over 30 carats precious stone
Very happy with the result
It was a good day! Thank you!

I have been following you silently for years, since I purchased a 4+ct cushion Ceylon sapphire from you at the Tucson show in 2004. You have now made me love spinel. Your books and videos are pure love of what nature has given us freely. I so enjoy following along.

Pure Talent ... ❤️❤️👍
Это настоящее искусство! Сильное впечатление! 🤗 Скажите, Владислав, а нельзя ли было срезать небольшие кусочки до огранки, которые всё равно ушли в пыль и огранить из них несколько мелких камушков? Или так не делают на практике?
Where can I find a good gemstone cutter, I live in orlando, fl
I know it is standard yield for cutting gemstone. But if I were him, I would have a heart ache to preform it and lose 60-70 cts ...

Real spinels are. Blue spinels are the rarest and very expensive: ilovecolours.org/all-the-beautiful-colours-of-august/

But I think you make the stone so small if this stone I will make than it can be 80ct+stone

I really feel like that 110 carat Spinel should not have been cut. It was beautiful the way it was. Some stones, you just don't cut, out of respect for mother nature.

I would agree if it was stuck in some host rock.. but a perfect gem like that is asking to be cut.
110ct water big wastage has done by you. You should cut from my professional gem Carter not by you. When I see your hand the style of cutting is so bad and sorry to say this but please don't do this for a big stones. Because these are millions of millions old stone so it is so riot get a big stone so try to cut from a professional gem cutter and tried to make a big stone without just cutting so everybody can cut but professionals are professionals
